Abu Talha said to Um Sulaim, "I have noticed feebleness in the voice of Messenger of Allah ﷺ which I think, is caused by hunger. Have you got any food?" She said, "Yes." She brought out some loaves of barley and took out a veil belonging to her, and wrapped the bread in part of it and put it under my arm and wrapped part of the veil round me and sent me to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I went carrying it and found Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Mosque sitting with some people. When I stood there, Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Has Abu Talha sent you?" I said, "Yes". He asked, "With some food? I said, "Yes" Allah's Apostle then said to the men around him, "Get up!" He set out (accompanied by them) and I went ahead of them till I reached Abu Talha and told him (of the Prophet's visit). Abu Talha said, "O Um Sulaim! Messenger of Allah ﷺ is coming with the people and we have no food to feed them." She said, "Allah and His Apostle know better." So Abu Talha went out to receive Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah's Apostle came along with Abu Talha. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Um Sulaim! Bring whatever you have." She brought the bread which Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered to be broken into pieces. Um Sulaim poured on them some butter from an oilskin. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited what Allah wished him to recite, and then said, "Let ten persons come (to share the meal)." Ten persons were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he again said, "Let another ten do the same." They were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he again said, '"'Let another ten persons (do the same.)" They were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he said, "Let another ten persons come." In short, all of them ate their fill, and they were seventy or eighty men.

سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَىْءٍ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ تَحْتَ يَدِي وَلاَثَتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ آرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ بِطَعَامٍ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ قُومُوا فَانْطَلَقَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ فَقَالَتِ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلُمِّي يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ مَا عِنْدَكِ فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً فَأَدَمَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيهِ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلاً

Abu Talha said to Um Sulaim, "I have heard the voice of Messenger of Allah ﷺ which was feeble, and I think that he is hungry. Have you got something (to eat)?" She took out some loaves of barley bread, then took her face-covering sheet and wrapped the bread in part of it, and pushed it under my garment and turned the rest of it around my body and sent me to Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I went with that, and found Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the mosque with some people. I stood up near them, and Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, "Have you been sent by Abu Talha?" I said, "Yes." He asked, "With some food (for us)?" I said, "Yes." Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to all those who were with him, "Get up!" He set out (and all the people accompanied him) and I proceeded ahead of them till I came to Abu Talha. Abu Talha then said, "O Um Sulaim! Messenger of Allah ﷺ has arrived along with the people, and we do not have food enough to feed them all." She said, "Allah and His Apostle know better." So Abu Talha went out till he met Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then Abu Talha and Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and entered the house. Allah's Apostle said, "Um Sulaim ! Bring whatever you have." She brought that very bread. The Prophet ﷺ ordered that it be crushed into small pieces, and Um Sulaim pressed a skin of butter on it. Then Allah's Apostle said whatever Allah wished him to say (to bless the food) and then added, "Admit ten (men)." So they were admitted, ate their fill and went out. The Prophet ﷺ then said, "Admit ten (more)." They were admitted, ate their full, and went out. He then again said, "Admit ten more!" They were admitted, ate their fill, and went out. He admitted ten more, and so all those people ate their fill, and they were eighty men.

سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَىْءٍ فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ تَحْتَ ثَوْبِي وَرَدَّتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ بِطَعَامٍ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ قُومُوا فَانْطَلَقَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مِنَ الطَّعَامِ مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ فَقَالَتِ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى دَخَلاَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلُمِّي يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ مَا عِنْدَكِ فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا فَأَدَمَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ أَذِنَ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلاً

Abu Talha said to Um Sulaim, "I heard the voice of Messenger of Allah ﷺ rather weak, and I knew that it was because of hunger. Have you anything (to present to the Prophet)?" She said, "Yes." Then she took out a few loaves of barley bread and took a veil of hers and wrapped the bread with a part of it and sent me to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I went and found Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting in the mosque with some people. I stood up before him. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Has Abu Talha sent you?" I said, ' Yes. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to those who were with him. "Get up and proceed." I went ahead of them (as their forerunner) and came to Abu Talha and informed him about it. Abu Talha said, "O Um Sulaim! Messenger of Allah ﷺ has come and we have no food to feed them." Um Sulaim said, "Allah and His Apostle know best." So Abu Talha went out (to receive them) till he met Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in company with Abu Talha and they entered the house. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Um Sulaim! Bring whatever you have." So she brought that (barley) bread and Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that bread to be broken into small pieces, and then Um Sulaim poured over it some butter from a leather butter container, and then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said what Allah wanted him to say, (i.e. blessing the food). Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Admit ten men." Abu Talha admitted them and they ate to their fill and went out. He again said, "Admit ten men." He admitted them, and in this way all the people ate to their fill, and they were seventy or eighty men."

سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَىْءٍ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَهَبْتُ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ قُومُوا فَانْطَلَقُوا وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مِنَ الطَّعَامِ مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ فَقَالَتِ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى دَخَلاَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلُمِّي يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ مَا عِنْدَكِ فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ قَالَ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا فَأَدَمَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلاً

I felt some feebleness in the voice of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and perceived that it was due to hunger; so have you anything with you? She said: Yes. She brought out barley loaves, then took out a head-covering of hers, in a part of which she wrapped those loaves and then put them beneath my mantle and covered me with a part of it. She then sent me to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I set forth and found Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting in the mosque in the company of some persons. I stood near them, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Has Abu Talha sent you? I said, Yes. He said: Is it for a feast? I said. Yes. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to'those who were with him to get up He went forth and so I did before them, until I came to Abu Talha and informed him. Abu Talba said: Umm Sulaim, here comes Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with people and we do not have enough (food) to feed them. She said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Abu Talha went out (to receive him) Until he met Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Allah's Apostle ﷺ came forward along with him until they both (Messenger of Allah, along with Abu Talha) came in. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Umm Sulaim. bring forth that which you have with you. She brought the bread. Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that the bread be broken into small pieces, and when Umm Sulaim had squeezed a small waterskin and put seasoning on it, Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited something regarding it what Allah wished him to say. He then said: Allow ten (guests to come in and have their meals). He permitted them; they ate until they had their fill. They then went out. He (the Holy Prophet) again said: Permit ten (more) and he (the host gave permission to them. They ate until they had enough. Then they went out. he again said: Permit ten (more) until all the people had eaten to their fill, and they were seventy or eighty persons.

سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَىْءٍ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ تَحْتَ ثَوْبِي وَرَدَّتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ أَلِطَعَامٍ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ قُومُوا قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ فَقَالَتِ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلاَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلُمِّي مَا عِنْدَكِ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا فَأَدَمَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ حَتَّى أَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ رَجُلاً أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ

"Abu Talhah said to Umm Sulaim: 'I heard the voice of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sounding weak and I sensed some hunger in it. Do you have anything? She said: 'Yes.' So she got some loaves of wheat bread, then she took out a Khimar of hers, and put the bread in it. Then she put it under my arm, and wrapped my upper body with part of it, and she sent me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said: "So I brought it to him, and I found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting in the Masjid, and there were people with him. So I stood among them, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Has Abu Talhah sent you?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'With food?' I said: 'Yes.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to those with him: 'Stand up.'" So they left, and I left in front of them, until I came to Abu Talhah, and I told him (that they were coming). Abu Talhah said: 'O Umm Sulaim! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ is coming with people, and we don't have anything to feed them.' Umm Sulaim said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.'" He said: "So Abu Talhah departed until he met up with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah came, while Abu Talhah was with him, until they entered, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Come O Umm Sulaim! What do you have?' So she brought him that bread, and he ﷺ ordered that it be broken into pieces. Umm Sulaim poured some butter from an oil-skin upon them, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited whatever Allah willed for him to say over it. Then he said: 'Let ten come.' So ten were admitted, and they ate until they were full, and then they left. Then he said: 'Let ten come.' So ten were admitted, and they ate until they were full, and they left. Then he said: 'Let ten come.' So ten were admitted, and they ate until they were full, and there were seventy or eighty men."

سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَعْنِي ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ فِي يَدِي وَرَدَّتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ قَالَ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ بِطَعَامٍ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ قُومُوا قَالَ فَانْطَلَقُوا فَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ قَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلاَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلُمِّي يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ مَا عِنْدَكِ فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا فَآدَمَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا فَأَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلاً

[AI] On the day of Hunayn, the Hawazin tribe came with their children, women, camels, and livestock, and they formed rows, increasing in number against the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . When they met, the Muslims turned their backs, as Allah the Almighty had stated. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O servants of Allah, I am the slave of Allah and His Messenger. O people of Ansar, I am the slave of Allah and His Messenger." So Allah defeated the polytheists and they did not strike with a sword or stab with a spear. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on that day, "Whoever kills a disbeliever, his belongings are his reward." Abu Talhah killed twenty men that day and took their belongings. Abu Qatadah said, "O Messenger of Allah, I struck a man with a chainmail armor and was unable to retrieve it. Look for someone who took it." A man stood up and said, "I took it, so give it to me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would never be asked for something and refuse to give it, so he remained silent. 'Umar said, "By Allah, Allah will not grant you and give it to the likes of you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and said, "Umar is truthful." The mother of Sulaym had a dagger with her, and Abu Talhah asked her, "Why do you have this with you?" She said, "I took it in case any of the disbelievers come close to me, I can stab him in the stomach." Abu Talhah said, "O Messenger of Allah, don't you hear what Umm Sulaym is saying?" She said, "O Messenger of Allah, kill those who come after us from the enemies because they were defeated because of you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has sufficed us and blessed us, O Umm Sulaym."

أَنَّ هَوَازِنَ جَاءَتْ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ بِالصِّبْيَانِ وَالنِّسَاءِ وَالْإِبِلِ وَالنَّعَمِ فَجَعَلُوهُمْ صُفُوفًا يُكَثِّرُونَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا الْتَقَوْا وَلَّى الْمُسْلِمُونَ مُدْبِرِينَ كَمَا قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّوَجَلَّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا عِبَادَ اللهِ أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ وَرَسُولُهُ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ وَرَسُولُهُ فَهَزَمَ اللهُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالَ عَفَّانُ وَلَمْ يَضْرِبُوا بِسَيْفٍ وَلَمْ يَطْعَنُوا بِرُمْحٍ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَئِذٍ مَنْ قَتَلَ كَافِرًا فَلَهُ سَلَبُهُ فَقَتَلَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَوْمَئِذٍ عِشْرِينَ رَجُلًا وَأَخَذَ أَسْلَابَهُمْ قَالَ وَقَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ضَرَبْتُ رَجُلًا عَلَى حَبْلِ الْعَاتِقِ وَعَلَيْهِ دِرْعٌ فَأُجْهِضْتُ عَنْهُ فَانْظُرْ مَنْ أَخَذَهَا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ أَنَا أَخَذْتُهَا فَأَرْضِهِ مِنْهَا وَأَعْطِنِيهَا قَالَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يُسْأَلُ شَيْئًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ أَوْ سَكَتَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ لَا وَاللهِ لَا يُفِيئُهَا اللهُ عَلَى أَسَدٍ مِنْ أُسْدِهِ وَيُعْطِيكَهَا فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ صَدَقَ عُمَرُ قَالَ وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ مَعَهَا خِنْجَرٌ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ مَا هَذَا مَعَكِ؟ قَالَتْ اتَّخَذْتُهُ إِنْ دَنَا مِنِّي بَعْضُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَنْ أَبْعَجَ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تَسْمَعُ مَا تَقُولُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ؟ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اقْتُلْ مَنْ بَعْدَنَا مِنَ الطُّلَقَاءِ انْهَزَمُوا بِكَ قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ قَدْ كَفَانَا وَأَحْسَنَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ

Do not narrate to Abu Talha about his son until I narrate it to him. Abu Talha came (home) ; she presented to him the supper. He took it and drank water. She then embellished herself which she did not do before. He (Abu Talha) had a sexual intercourse with her and when she saw that he was satisfied after sexual intercourse with her, she said: Abu Talha, if some people borrow something from another family and then (the members of the family) ask for its return, would they resist its return? He said: No. She said: I inform you about the death of your son. He was annoyed, and said: You did not inform me until I had a sexual intercourse with you and you later on gave me information about my son. He went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him what had happened. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: May Allah bless both of you in the night spent by you! He (the narrator) said: She became pregnant. Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) was in the course of a journey and she was along with him and when Messenger of Allah ﷺ came back to Medina from the journey he did not enter (his house) (during the night). When the people came near Medina, she felt the pangs of delivery. He (Abu Talha) remained with her and Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded on. Abu Talha said: O Lord, you know that I love to go along with Messenger of Allah when he goes out and enter along with him when he enters and I have been detained as Thou seest. Umm Sulaim said: Abu Talha, I do not feel (so much pain) as I was feeling formerly, so better proceed on. So we proceeded on and she felt the pangs of delivery as they reached (Medina) and a child was born and my mother said to me: Anas, none should suckle him until you go to Messenger of Allah ﷺ tomorrow morning. And when it was morning I carried him (the child) and went along with him to Messenger of Allah (may peace beupon him). He said: I saw that he had in his hand the instrument for the cauterisation of the camels. When he saw me. he said: This is, perhaps, what Umm Sulaim has given birth to. I said: Yes. He laid down that instrument on the ground. I brought that child to him and placed it in his lap and Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked Ajwa dates of Medina to be brought and softened them in his month. When these had become palatable he placed them in the mouth of that child. The child began to taste them. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: See what love the Ansar have for dates. He then wiped his face and named him 'Abdullah. (Using translation from Muslim 2144d)

لِأَهْلِهَا لَا تُحَدِّثُوا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ بِابْنِهِ حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَنَا أُحَدِّثُهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ فَقَرَّبَتْ إِلَيْهِ عَشَاءً فَأَكَلَ وَشَرِبَ قَالَ ثُمَّ تَصَنَّعَتْ لَهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا كَانَتْ تَصَنَّعُ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَوَقَعَ بِهَا فَلَمَّا رَأَتْ أَنَّهُ قَدْ شَبِعَ وَأَصَابَ مِنْهَا قَالَتْ يَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ أَرَأَيْتَ أَنَّ قَوْمًا أَعَارُوا عَارِيَتَهُمْ أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ وَطَلَبُوا عَارِيَتَهُمْ أَلَهُمْ أَنْ يَمْنَعُوهُمْ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَتْ فَاحْتَسِبْ ابْنَكَ فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى أَتَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا كَانَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكُمَا فِي غَابِرِ لَيْلَتِكُمَا قَالَ فَحَمَلَتْ قَالَ فَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ وَهِيَ مَعَهُ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَتَى الْمَدِينَةَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ لَا يَطْرُقُهَا طُرُوقًا فَدَنَوْا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ فَضَرَبَهَا الْمَخَاضُ وَاحْتَبَسَ عَلَيْهَا أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ يُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ أَخْرُجَ مَعَ رَسُولِكَ إِذَا خَرَجَ وَأَدْخُلَ مَعَهُ إِذَا دَخَلَ وَقَدِ احْتَبَسْتُ بِمَا تَرَى قَالَ تَقُولُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ يَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ مَا أَجِدُالَّذِي كُنْتُ أَجِدُ فَانْطَلَقْنَا قَالَ وَضَرَبَهَا الْمَخَاضُ حِينَ قَدِمُوا فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا فَقَالَتْ لِي أُمِّي يَا أَنَسُ لَا يُرْضِعَنَّهُ أَحَدٌ حَتَّى تَغْدُوَ بِهِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ احْتَمَلْتُهُ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَصَادَفْتُهُ وَمَعَهُ مِيسَمٌ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي قَالَ لَعَلَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ وَلَدَتْ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَوَضَعَ الْمِيسَمَ قَالَ فَجِئْتُ بِهِ فَوَضَعْتُهُ فِي حِجْرِهِ قَالَ وَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِعَجْوَةٍ مِنْ عَجْوَةِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَلَاكَهَا فِي فِيهِ حَتَّى ذَابَتْ ثُمَّ قَذَفَهَا فِي فِي الصَّبِيِّ فَجَعَلَ الصَّبِيُّ يَتَلَمَّظُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ انْظُرُوا إِلَى حُبِّ الْأَنْصَارِ التَّمْرَ قَالَ فَمَسَحَ وَجْهَهُ وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ

Hammmad said the same, and I hastened past him. So look who took it." A man stood up and said, "I took it, so give it to me and leave me a part of it." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was not asked for anything except that he gave it or withheld it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent. Umar swore, "By Allah, Allah will not give it to anyone more deserving of it than you." The Prophet ﷺ laughed and said, "Umar has spoken the truth." Then Abu Talhah met Umm Sulaim and she had a dagger with her. Abu Talhah asked, "Why do you have this with you?" She said, "I intended that if any of the polytheists approached me, I would stab him in the stomach with it." Abu Talhah said, "Don't you hear what Umm Sulaim is saying?" She said, "O Messenger of Allah, kill those who will come after us from the victorious ones. They have been defeated by you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has sufficed us and has been good to us, O Umm Sulaim."

Yahya related to me from Malik that Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talha heard Anas ibn Malik say that Abu Talha had said to Umm Sulaym, "I have just been listening to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his voice was very weak. I recognised hunger in it, so, do you have anything?" She replied, "Yes," and brought out some barley loaves. She took her long head scarf and wrapped up the bread with part of it and put it into my (Anas's) hand and gave me part of it to wear. Then she sent me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Anas continued, "I took it, and I found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting in the mosque with some people. I watched them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Did Abu Talha send you?' I replied, 'Yes.' He said, 'For food?' I said, 'Yes.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to those with him, 'Let us go.' He set off and I went among them until I came to Abu Talha and told him. Abu Talha said, 'Umm Sulaym! The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has brought people and we have no food. What shall we give them to eat?' She said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' " Anas continued, "Abu Talha went out and met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached with Abu Talha until they entered. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Come now, Umm Sulaym, what have you got?' She brought out bread. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered it to be broken into pieces, and Umm Sulaym squeezed out onto it a container of clarified butter which she had seasoned. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said whatever Allah wished him to say, and said, 'Will you give permission for ten of them to come in?' He gave them permission, and they ate until they were full and then left. He said, 'Give permission to ten more.' He gave them permission, and they ate until they were full and left. Then he said, 'Give permission to ten more.' He gave them permission and they ate until they were full and left. Then he said, 'Give permission to ten more.' He gave permission and they ate until they were full and left. There were seventy or eighty men."

سَمِعْتُ صَوْتَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ضَعِيفًا أَعْرِفُ فِيهِ الْجُوعَ فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ مِنْ شَىْءٍ فَقَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَأَخْرَجَتْ أَقْرَاصًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ ثُمَّ أَخَذَتْ خِمَارًا لَهَا فَلَفَّتِ الْخُبْزَ بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ دَسَّتْهُ تَحْتَ يَدِي وَرَدَّتْنِي بِبَعْضِهِ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ فَوَجَدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَالِسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَعَهُ النَّاسُ فَقُمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ آرْسَلَكَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ لِلطَّعَامِ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ قُومُوا قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ وَانْطَلَقْتُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ حَتَّى جِئْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدْ جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدَنَا مِنَ الطَّعَامِ مَا نُطْعِمُهُمْ فَقَالَتِ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ حَتَّى لَقِيَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ مَعَهُ حَتَّى دَخَلاَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلُمِّي يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ مَا عِنْدَكِ فَأَتَتْ بِذَلِكَ الْخُبْزِ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَفُتَّ وَعَصَرَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ عُكَّةً لَهَا فَآدَمَتْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ بِالدُّخُولِ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ حَتَّى أَكَلَ الْقَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ وَشَبِعُوا وَالْقَوْمُ سَبْعُونَ رَجُلاً أَوْ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلاً

قَالَ لَقِيَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ طَاوِيًا فَرَجَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَقَالَ لأُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ طَاوِيًا فَهَلْ عِنْدَكِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَتْ مُدٌّ أَوْ نِصْفُ مُدٍّ دَقِيقِ شَعِيرٍ قَالَ فَنَدْعُو عَلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَصَنَعَتْ مِنْهُ قُرْصًا قَالَ أَنَسٌ فَأَرْسَلَنِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقَالَ اذْهَبْ فَادْعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يارسول اللَّهِ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَدْعُوكَ فَقَالَ لأَصْحَابِهِ قُومُوا إِلَى أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ بِضْعٌ وَثَمَانُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ أَلَا قُلْتَ لَهُ مَا عِنْدَنَا قُلْتُ دَعَوْتُهُ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ قُومُوا فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ إِنَّمَا هُوَ شَيْءٌ يَسِيرٌ فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ وَاللَّهِ مَا هِيَ إلاَّ قُرْصَةٌ رَأَيْتُكَ طَاوِيًا فصنعتها لك فَقَالَ ائْتِنِي بِهَا قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَوَضَعَ الْقُرْصَ فِي الْقَصْعَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟ قُلْتُ لَا إلاَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي الْعُكَّةِ شَيْءٌ يَسِيرٌ قَالَ ائْتِنِي بِهَا فَجِئْتُهُ بِهَا فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَعْصِرُ حَتَّى خَرَجَ عَلَى رَأْسِ الْعُكَّةِ شَيْءٌ فَأَخَذَهُ بِإِصْبَعِهِ السَّبَّاحَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهِ الْقُرْصَ فَانْتَفَخَ ثُمَّ عَصَرَ أَيْضًا فَخَرَجَ فَأَخَذَهُ بِإِصْبَعِهِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهِ الْقُرْصَ فَانْتَفَخَ ثُمَّ عَصَرَ الثَّالِثة فَخَرَجَ فَأَخَذَهُ بِإِصْبَعِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ وَمَسَحَ بِهِ الْقُرْصَ فَانْتَفَخَ حَتَّى امْتَلَأَتِ الْقَصْعَةُ فَقَالَ ائْذَنْ لِعَشَرَةٍ فَأَدْخَلْتُ عَشَرَةً فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ وَبَثَّ أَصَابِعَهُ وَسَطَ الْقَصْعَةِ أَوْ قَالَ فَبَثَّ أَصَابِعَهُ وَسَطَ الْقُرْصَ وَقال كُلُوا بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ قَالَ ادْعُ لِي عَشَرَةً أُخَر وَيَدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُغَيَّبَةٌ فِي وَسَطِ الْقُرْصِ وَقال كُلُوا بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ خَرَجَوُا فَمَا زَالُوا يَدْخُلُونَ عَشَرَةً عَشَرَةً فَيَأْكُلُونَ حَتَّى شَبِعُوا وَإِنَّهُمْ لَبِضْعٌ وَثَمَانُونَ رَجُلا وَبَقِيَ وَسَطَ الْقُرْصِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ عَنْ بَكْرٍ عَن أَنَس إلاَّ مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ عُبَيد عَنْ بَكْرٍ

Anas took some steps back and stumbled until he came to Abu Talhah and said, "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who has come to you in the middle of the people." Abu Talhah said, "I will meet him by the door on the terrace of the step." When he (the Prophet ﷺ) entered, I said, "What have you done to us, O Messenger of Allah?" I only recognized hunger on your face, so I prepared something for you to eat." He (the Prophet ﷺ) said, "Enter and give me glad tidings." So he entered and brought their provision and leveled it out with his hand. Then he asked, "Do you have any meat?" They brought him a shoulder (of a sheep) with some fat on it. He put his hand on it, and the fat poured out. Then he said, "Invite ten people in at a time." They were about one hundred in number, so they entered and ate until they were satisfied. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the one who had provided the food, "Eat, you and your family." So they ate and were satisfied.

دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَعَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجُوعَ فَسَأَلْتُ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ؟ فَأَشَارَتْ بِكَفَّيْهَا فَقَالَتْ عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ فَقُلْتُ اصْنَعِي اعْجِنِي وَأَرْسَلْتُ أَنَسًا فَقُلْتُ ائْتِهِ فَسَارَّهُ فِي أُذُنِهِ وَادْعُهُ فَلَمَّا أَقْبَلَ أَنَسٌ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هَذَا رَجُلٌ قَدْ أَتَاكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ أَرْسَلَكَ أَبُوكَ يَدْعُونَا؟» قَالَ أَنَسٌ نَعَمْ فَاسْتَقْبَلْتُهُ قَالَ «قُومُوا بِسْمِ اللهِ» فَأَدْبَرَ أَنَسٌ يَشْتَدُّ حَتَّى أَتَى أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَقَالَ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَتَاكَ فِي النَّاسِ قَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَاسْتَقْبَلْتُهُ عِنْدَ الْبَابِ عَلَى مُسْتَراحِ الدَّرَجَةِ فَقُلْتُ مَاذَا صَنَعْتَ بِنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ إِنَّمَا عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِكَ الْجُوعَ فَصَنَعْتُ لَكَ شَيْئًا تَأْكُلُهُ فَقَالَ «ادْخُلْ وَأَبْشِرْ» فَدَخَلَ فَأَتَى بَصَحْفَتِهِمْ فَجَعَلَ يُسَوِّيها بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَلْ مِنْ كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي الْأُدُمَ فَأَتَوْهُ بِعِكَّتِهِمْ فِيهَا شَيْءٌ أَوْ لَيْسَ فِيهَا فَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ فَانْسَكَبَ مِنْهَا السَّمْنُ فَقَالَ «أَدْخِلْ عَلَيَّ عَشَرَةً عَشَرَةً» قَالَ وَهُمْ زُهَاءُ مِائَةٍ فَدَخَلُوا فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلْفَضْلِ الَّذِي فَضَلَ «كُلُوا أَنْتُمْ وَعِيالُكُمْ» فَأَكَلُوا وَشَبِعُوا

Then she applied the ghee to the bread and he asked if there was any soup. She replied that they had some soup with fat floating in it and she didn't know if she should keep it or use it. So she brought it to him and he poured it over the bread. Then he called for ten men to come and they ate from it until they were full. They continued to enter in groups of ten until they were all full. Then the Messenger of Allah sat down with them and we sat with him and we ate until we were satisfied.

أَتَى أًبُو طَلْحَةَ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ وَهِيَ أُمُّ أَنَسٍ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ رَابُّهُ فَقَالَ عَنْدَكِ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ شَيْءٌ؟ فِإِنِّي مَرَرْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُقِرئُ أَصْحَابَ الصُّفَّةِ سُورَةَ النِّسَاءِ وَقَدَ رَبَطَ عَلَى بَطْنِهِ حَجَرًا مِنَ الْجُوعِ فَقَالَتْ كَانَ عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ طَحَنْتُهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَتْنِي إِلَى الْأَسْوَاقِ وَالْأَسْوَاقُ حَوَائِطُ لَهُمْ فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَطَبٍ فَجَعَلَتْ مِنْهُ قُرْصًا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَعِنْدَكِ أُدْمٌ فَقَالَتْ قَدْ كَانَ عِنْدِي نِحْيُّ فِيهِ سَمْنٌ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَبَقِي فِيهِ شَيْءٌ فَأَتَتْهُ بِهِ فَعَصَرَهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ عَصْرَ اثْنَيْنِ أَبْلَغُ مِنْ عَصْرِ وَاحِدٍ فَعَصَرَاهُ جَمِيعًا فَأَخْرَجَا مِثْلَ التَّمْرَةِ فَدَهَنَتِ الْقُرْصَ ثُمَّ دَعَانِي فَقَالَ يَا أَنَسُ تَعْرِفُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ إِنِّي تَرَكْتُهُ مَعَ أَصْحَابِهِ فِي الصُّفَّةِ يُقْرِئُهُمْ فَادْعُهُ وَلَا تَدَعْ مَعَهُ غَيْرَهَ انْظُرْ أَلَّا تَفْضَحَنِي فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي قَالَ «لَعَلَّ أَبَاكَ أَرْسَلَكَ إِلَيْنَا؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِلْقَوْمِ انْطَلِقُوا فَانْطَلَقُوا وُهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانُونَ رَجُلًا فَأَمْسَكَ يَدِي فَلَمَّا دَنَوْتُ مِنَ الدَّارِ نَزَعْتُ يَدَهُ مِنْ يَدِي فَجَعَلَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَطْلُبُنِي فِي الدَّارِ وَيَرْمِينِي بِالْحِجَارَةِ وَيَقُولُ فَضَحْتَنِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ خَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرَهُ الْخَبَرَ فَقَالَ «لَا يَضُرُّكَ» فَأَمَرَهُمْ فَجَلَسُوا ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَأَتَيْنَاهُ بِالْقُرْصِ فَقَالَ هَلْ مِنْ أُدْمٍ؟ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَدْ كَانَ عِنْدَنَا نِحْيٌ وَقَدْ عَصَرْتُهُ أَنَا وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هَلُمُّوهُ فَإِنَّ عَصْرَ الثَّلَاثَةِ أَبْلَغُ مِنْ عَصْرِ الْاثْنَيْنِ» فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَعَصَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْرَجُوا مِنْهُ مِثْلَ التَّمْرَةِ فَمَسَحُوا بِهِ الْقُرْصَ فَمَسَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ دَعَا فِيهِ باِلْبَرَكَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «ادْعُوا لِي عَشْرَةً» فَدَعَوْتُ عَشْرَةً فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهُ حَتَّى ثَمِلُوا شِبِعًا فَمَا زَالُوا يَدْخُلُونَ عَشْرَةً عَشْرَةً حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ جَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَجَلَسَنْاَ مَعَهُ فَأَكَلْنَا حَتَّى فَضَلَ

Abu Talhah said, "O Umm Sulaym, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has brought people and we do not have enough food to satisfy them." She said, "May Allah and His Messenger know best." So Abu Talhah went until we reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Talhah entered and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Bring what you have, O Umm Sulaym." So she brought the bread, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered it to be broken and squeezed with the hands of Umm Sulaym. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In it is what Allah wills." Then he said, "Give permission to ten." So he gave them permission, and they ate until they were full, then they left. Then he said, "Give permission to ten." So I quickly went until I reached Abu Talhah and said, 'This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who has come and he has brought some people with him.' Abu Talhah said, 'Didn't I tell you to invite him privately?' I said, 'Yes, but when he asked me if my father had called me, I could not lie to him.' So Abu Talhah met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at the door of the house and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, this is something we wanted to offer you.' He said, 'Enter.' So they both entered and Umm Sulaym had a flatbread (al-ukkah) that she was pressing and it was dry or nearly dry. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Umm Sulaym, give it to me so that I can soften it for her in a better manner than you.'" He (the narrator) said: "So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it with his hand and said, 'With ghee like this.' Then he placed his hand on top of the bread and said, 'O Abu Talhah, bring ten (people).' So ten entered and they all ate until they were full. Then he continued to bring in another ten, ten by ten, until seventy or eighty had entered. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people of the household ate, and they gave the best of what they had to their neighbors."

أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ اصْنَعِي شَيْئًا لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَطَحَنَتْ شَيْئًا مِنْ شَعِيرٍ فَصَنَعَتْهُ ثُمَّ دَعَانِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ فَقَالَ اذْهَبْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْ إِنَّ أَبِي يَدْعُوكَ وَأَسِرَّهُ قَالَ أَنَسٌ فَأَقْبَلْتُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ جَالِسٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي قَالَ «يَا أَنَسُ» قُلْتُ لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «دَعَانِي أَبُوكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «قُومُوا» ثُمَّ قَالَ لَمْ يَمُرَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى مَجْلِسٍ إِلَّا قَالَ «قُومُوا» فَخَرَجْتُ سَرِيعًا حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ جَاءَ وَأَتَى بِالنَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ أَلَمْ آمُرْكَ أَنْ تَخْلُوَ بِهِ؟ قُلْتُ لَمَّا سَأَلَنِي هَلْ دَعَانِي أَبُوكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَمْ أَكْذِبْهُ وَلَقِيَ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى بَابِ الدَّارِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللِّهِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ شَيْءٌ أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَخُصَّكَ بِهِ فَقَالَ «ادْخُلْ» فَدَخَلَ هُوَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَأُمُّ سُلَيْمٌ مَعَهَا عُكَّةٌ تَعْصُرُهَا وَكَانَتْ يَبِسَتْ أَوْ كَادَتْ تَيْبَسُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «يَا أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ نَاوِلِنِيهَا حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَحْسَنَ لَهَا عَصْرًا مِنْكِ» فَأَخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ بِالسَّمْنِ هَكَذَا ثُمَّ وَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَهُ عَلَى رَأْسِ الثَّرِيدِ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ أَدْخِلْ عَشْرَةً» فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرَةٌ فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى شَبِعُوا ثُمَّ لَمْ يَزَلْ يُدْخِلُ عَشْرَةً عَشْرَةً فَأَكَلُوا حَتَّى ثَمِلُوا حَتَّى دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ مَا بَيْنَ السَّبْعِينَ إِلَّى الثَّمَانِينَ ثُمَّ أًَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَهْلُ الْبَيْتِ وَأَفْضَلُوا مَا أَهْدَوْا لِجِيرَانِهِمْ

[AI] "Do not inform Abu Talhah of the death of my son until I am the one who informs him," she said. So he came and she served him dinner and a drink. He ate and drank, then she prepared herself in the best way she had never done before. When he was full and satisfied, she revealed the news to him. When she realized that he had eaten and satisfied his need, she said, "O Abu Talhah, what if a family borrowed some clothes from another family, and then the borrowing family asked for their clothes back, would it be fair for them to keep the clothes?" He said, "No." She said, "Then be patient, and your son will be returned to you." He became angry and said, "You have left me, and now you tell me about the death of my son." He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you not see what Umm Sulaim did?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah bless both of you in your night." He then went on to say that she became pregnant that night. She and Abu Talhah were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when she went into labor. Abu Talhah stayed with her, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued on. Abu Talhah said, "O Lord, you know that it pleases me to go out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he goes out and to enter with him when he enters. But this happened, so I will stay with her." He said this while feeling very distressed. The labor pains of Umm Sulaim began, and she gave birth to a baby boy. Her mother said to me, "O Anas, do not feed him anything until you take him to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ tomorrow morning." Anas said, "So I spent that night comforting him as he cried until morning. I took the baby boy to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I found that he had a small date branch in his hand. When he saw the baby with me, he said, 'Perhaps Umm Sulaim gave birth?' I said, 'Yes.' He then placed the date branch in his mouth until it melted, then he put it in the mouth of the baby. The baby became peaceful, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Look at the love of the Ansar for dates.' He then wiped his face and named him Abdullah."

لِأَهْلِهَا لَا تُحَدِّثُوا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ بِمَوْتِ ابْنِي حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَنَا الَّذِي أُحَدِّثُهُ قَالَ فَجَاءَ فَقَرَّبَتْ إِلَيْهِ عَشَاءَهُ وَشَرَابَهُ فَأَكَلَ وَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ تَصَنَّعَتْ لَهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا كَانَتْ تَصْنَعُ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا شَبِعَ وَرَوَى وَقَعَ بِهَا فَلَمَّا عَرَفَتْ أَنَّهُ قَدْ شَبِعَ وَرَوَى وَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ مِنْهَا قَالَتْ يَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ أَعَارُوا عَارِيَتَهُمْ أَهْلَ بَيْتٍ آخَرِينَ فَطَلَبُوا عَارِيَتَهُمْ أَلَهُمْ أَنْ يَحْبِسُوا عَارِيَتَهُمْ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَتْ فَاحْتَسِبِ ابْنَكَ قَالَتْ فَغَضِبَ ثُمَّ قَالَ تَرَكْتِينِي ثُمَّ تَلَطَّخْتُ بِمَا تَلَطَّخْتُ ثُمَّ تُحَدِّثِينِي بِمَوْتِ ابْنِي فَانْطَلَقَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ صَنَعَتْ كَذَا وَكَذَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكُمَا فِي غَابِرِ لَيْلَتِكُمَا» قَالَ فَبَلَغَتْ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ فَحَمَلَتْ قَالَ فَهِيَ وَأَبُو طَلْحَةَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا دَنَوْا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَخَذَهَا الْمَخَاضُ فَاحْتَبَسَ عَلَيْهَا أَبُو طَلْحَةَ وَمَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَقُولُ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ يَا رَبُّ إِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ أَخْرَجَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا خَرَجَ وَأَدْخُلَ مَعَهُ إِذَا دَخَلَ فَهَذِهِ احْتَبَسَتْ بِمَا تَرَى قَالَ يَقُولُ أَبُو طَلْحَةَ تَقُولُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ يَا أَبَا طَلْحَةَ لَا أَجِدُ مَا كُنْتُ أَجِدُ فَانْطَلِقْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى قَدِمَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَضَرَبَهَا الْمَخَاضُ فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا فَقَالَتْ لِي أُمِّي يَا أَنَسُ لَا يَطْعَمْ شَيْئًا حَتَّى تَغْدُوَ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ فَبَتُّ تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ أُكَالِئُهُ مَحْنِيًّا عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَبْكِي حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ فَغَدَوْتُ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَجَدْتُ بِيَدِهِ مِيسَمًا فَلَمَّا رَأَى الصَّبِيُّ مَعِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَعَلَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ وَلَدَتْ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَوَضَعَ الْمِيسَمَ وَقَعَدَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِالصَّبِيِّ فَوَضَعْتُهُ فِي حِجْرِهِ فَدَعَا بِعَجْوَةٍ مِنْ عَجْوَةِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَلَاكَهَا فِي فَمِهِ حَتَّى ذَابَتْ ثُمَّ لَفَظَهَا فِي فَمِ الصَّبِيِّ فَجَعَلَ يَتَلَمَّظُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «انْظُرُوا إِلَى حُبِّ الْأَنْصَارِ التَّمْرَ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ وَجْهَهُ وَسَمَّاهُ عَبْدَ اللهِ»

Abu Talha said to Um Sulaim, "I have noticed feebleness in the voice of Messenger of Allah ﷺ which I think, is caused by hunger. Have you got any food?" She said, "Yes." She brought out some loaves of barley and took out a veil belonging to her, and wrapped the bread in part of it and put it under my arm and wrapped part of the veil round me and sent me to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I went carrying it and found Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the Mosque sitting with some people. When I stood there, Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Has Abu Talha sent you?" I said, "Yes". He asked, "With some food? I said, "Yes" Allah's Apostle then said to the men around him, "Get up!" He set out (accompanied by them) and I went ahead of them till I reached Abu Talha and told him (of the Prophet's visit). Abu Talha said, "O Um Sulaim! Messenger of Allah ﷺ is coming with the people and we have no food to feed them." She said, "Allah and His Apostle know better." So Abu Talha went out to receive Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Allah's Apostle came along with Abu Talha. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Um Sulaim! Bring whatever you have." She brought the bread which Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered to be broken into pieces. Um Sulaim poured on them some butter from an oilskin. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited what Allah wished him to recite, and then said, "Let ten persons come (to share the meal)." Ten persons were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he again said, "Let another ten do the same." They were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he again said, '"'Let another ten persons (do the same.)" They were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he said, "Let another ten persons come." In short, all of them ate their fill, and they were seventy or eighty men. (Using translation from Bukhārī 3578)

"عن أبى طلحة دخلت المسجد فعرفت في وجه رسول الله ﷺ الجوع، (أم سليم) (*) فسألت أم سليم، هل عندك من شئ؟ فأشارت بكفيها، فقالت عندى شئ، فقلت: اصنعى اعجنى، وأرسلت أَنَسًا، فقالت: ائته فساره في أذنه، وَادْعُهْ، فلما أقبل الناس قال رسول الله ﷺ هذا الرجل قد أتاكم بخير: بأى شئ أرسلك أبوك يدعونا؟ قال أنس، نعم، قال: قوموا باسم الله، فأدبر أنس يشتد حتى أتى أبا طلحة، فقال هذا رسول الله ﷺ ، قد أتاك في الناس قال أبو طلحة: فاستقبلته عند الباب على مستراح الدرجة، فقلت ما صنعت ما صنعت بنا يا رسول الله؟ إنما عرفنا في وجهك الجوع، فصنعنا لك شيئا تأكله، قال: ادخل وأبشر، فدخل فأتى بصحفة فجعل يسويها بيده، ثم قال هل من كأنة؟ يعنى الأدم، فأتوه بعكتهم فيها شئ أو ليس فيها، فقال بيده فأنسكب منها السمن، فقال: أدخل على عشرة عشرة، وهم زهاء مائة، فدخلوا فأكلوا حتى شبعوا، فقال رسول الله ﷺ الفضل الذى فضل كلوا أنتم وعيالكم فأكلوا وشبعوا".
