ذِكْرُ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَى الْمَرْءِ إِذَا دُعِيَ إِلَى دَعْوَةٍ وَجَاءَ مَعَهُ بِغَيْرِهِ أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ صَاحِبَ الْبَيْتِ

An Ansari man, called Abu Shu'aib, came and told his butcher slave, "Prepare meals sufficient for five persons, for I want to invite the Prophet ﷺ along with four other persons as I saw signs of hunger on his face." Abu Shu'aib invited them and another person came along with them. The Prophet ﷺ said (to Abu Shu'aib), This man followed us, so if you allow him, he will join us, and if you want him to return, he will go back." Abu Shu'aib said, "No, I have allowed him (i.e. he, too, is welcomed to the meal).

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ يُكْنَى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ فَقَالَ لِغُلاَمٍ لَهُ قَصَّابٍ اجْعَلْ لِي طَعَامًا يَكْفِي خَمْسَةً فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَدْعُوَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَإِنِّي قَدْ عَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ فَدَعَاهُمْ فَجَاءَ مَعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ هَذَا قَدْ تَبِعَنَا فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ فَأْذَنْ لَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ لاَ بَلْ قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ

There was an Ansari man called Abu Shu'aib who had a slave butcher. Abu Shu'aib said to him, "Prepare a meal sufficient for five persons so that I might invite the Prophet ﷺ besides other four persons." Abu Shu'aib had seen the signs of hunger on the face of the Prophet ﷺ and so he invited him. Another man who was not invited, followed the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Shu'aib, "This man has followed us. Do you allow him to share the meal?" Abu Shu'aib said, "Yes."

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ كَانَ لَهُ غُلاَمٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامَ خَمْسَةٍ لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَأَبْصَرَ فِي وَجْهِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الْجُوعَ فَدَعَاهُ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُدْعَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ هَذَا قَدِ اتَّبَعَنَا أَتَأْذَنُ لَهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ

There was a man called Abu Shu'aib, and he had a slave who was a butcher. He said (to his slave), "Prepare a meal to which I may invite Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with four other men." So he invited Messenger of Allah ﷺ and four other men, but another man followed them whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, "You have invited me as one of five guests, but now another man has followed us. If you wish you can admit him, and if you wish you can refuse him." On that the host said, "But I admit him." Narrated Muhammad bin Ismaʿil: If guests are sitting at a dining table, they do not have the right to carry food from other tables to theirs, but they can pass on food from their own table to each other; otherwise they should leave it.

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلاَمٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامًا أَدْعُو رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَدَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنَا خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَهَذَا رَجُلٌ قَدْ تَبِعَنَا فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَذِنْتَ لَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ تَرَكْتَهُ قَالَ بَلْ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيْلَ يَقُولُ إِذَا كَانَ الْقَوْمُ عَلَى الْمَائِدَةِ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ أَنْ يُنَاوِلُوا مِنْ مَائِدَةٍ إِلَى مَائِدَةٍ أُخْرَى وَلَكِنْ يُنَاوِلُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا فِي تِلْكَ الْمَائِدَةِ أَوْ يَدَعُ

There was an Ansari man nicknamed, Abu Shu'aib, who had a slave who was a butcher. He came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was sitting with his companions and noticed the signs of hunger on the face of the Prophet ﷺ . So he went to his butcher slave and said, "Prepare for me a meal sufficient for five persons so that I may invite the Prophet ﷺ along with four other men." He had the meal prepared for him and invited him. A (sixth) man followed them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "O Abu Shu'aib! Another man has followed us. If you wish, you may invite him; and if you wish, you may refuse him." Abu Shu'aib said, "No, I will admit him."

كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ يُكْنَى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلاَمٌ لَحَّامٌ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهْوَ فِي أَصْحَابِهِ فَعَرَفَ الْجُوعَ فِي وَجْهِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَذَهَبَ إِلَى غُلاَمِهِ اللَّحَّامِ فَقَالَ اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامًا يَكْفِي خَمْسَةً لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَصَنَعَ لَهُ طُعَيِّمًا ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ فَدَعَاهُ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَا أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ إِنَّ رَجُلاً تَبِعَنَا فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَذِنْتَ لَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ تَرَكْتَهُ قَالَ لاَ بَلْ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ

0 ye, prepare for us food sufficient for five persons, for I intend to invite Allah's Apostle ﷺ who would be the fifth amongst the five. He (the narrator) reported that he then prepared the food and came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and invited all the five (including him) who was the fifth amongst them to the feast. A man followed him and when Allah's Apostle ﷺ reached the door, he said: This man has followed us; if you like you may permit him (to join the meal) and if you like he can go back. Thereupon the person said: Messenger of Allah, I permit him.

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلاَمٌ لَحَّامٌ فَرَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَعَرَفَ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ فَقَالَ لِغُلاَمِهِ وَيْحَكَ اصْنَعْ لَنَا طَعَامًا لِخَمْسَةِ نَفَرٍ فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَدْعُوَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ قَالَ فَصَنَعَ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَدَعَاهُ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَاتَّبَعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْبَابَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّ هَذَا اتَّبَعَنَا فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ رَجَعَ قَالَ لاَ بَلْ آذَنُ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ

[AI] He is called Abu Shuayb and he had a young worker. He said, "Make food for me and invite the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, for the fifth of five." So he invited the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, for the fifth of five. A man followed them, and the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "You invited us for the fifth of five and this man has followed me. If you want, you can allow him, and if you want, you can leave him." He said, "So he allowed him."

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامًا أَدْعُو رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ قَالَ فَدَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنَا خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَهَذَا رَجُلٌ قَدْ تَبِعَنِي فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَذِنْتَ لَهُ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ تَرَكْتَهُ» قَالَ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ

[AI] He is called Abu Shuaib and he had a young blacksmith. He said to him, "Prepare food for us so that I may invite the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and six (other) people." So, he invited them and a man followed them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Has he followed us?" He said, "Yes."

يُقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ اجْعَلْ لَنَا طَعَامًا لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سَادِسَ سِتَّةٍ فَدَعَاهُمْ فَاتَّبَعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ هَذَا قَدِ اتَّبَعَنَا أَفَتَأْذَنُ لَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

[AI] There was a blacksmith who worked for Abu Shuayb. When he saw the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , exerting himself, he ordered his servant to prepare food for him that would be enough for five people. So, he sent a message to the Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , requesting him to come and bring four other people with him. The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , got up and a man followed him. When they reached the gate, the man said, "You sent me a message that I should bring four other people with me, and this man has followed us. If you permit him, he can enter, otherwise he will go back." The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , said, "I have given him permission, O Messenger of Allah," so he entered.

كَانَ لِأَبِي شُعَيْبٍ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْجَهْدِ أَمَرَ غُلَامَهُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لَهُ طَعَامًا يَكْفِي خَمْسَةً فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ ائْتِنَا خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَاتَّبَعَهُ رَجُلٌ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَى إِلَى بَابِهِ قَالَ إِنَّكَأَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيَّ أَنْ آتِيَكَ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَإِنَّ هَذَا قَدِ اتَّبَعَنَا فَإِنْ أَذِنْتَ لَهُ دَخَلَ وَإِلَّا رَجَعَ قَالَ فَإِنِّي قَدْ أَذِنْتُ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَدَخَلَ

[AI] A man from the Ansar who was known as Abu Shuayb said, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and noticed hunger in his face. So, I ordered a young servant who was a butcher to prepare food for five men. Then, I invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and four others. Another man followed them. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ reached the door, he said, 'This man has followed us. If you wish, permit him, otherwise, he will go back.' So, permission was granted to him."

عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُكَنَّى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ فَأَتَيْتُ غُلَامًا لِي قَصَّابًا فَأَمَرْتُهُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لَنَا طَعَامًا لِخَمْسَةِ رِجَالٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ دَعَوْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْبَابَ قَالَ هَذَا قَدْ تَبِعَنَا إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ وَإِلَّا رَجَعَ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ

[AI] He is called Abu Shuayb, and he had a servant who was a blacksmith. He said to his servant, "Prepare me some food, maybe I will invite the Prophet ﷺ to eat." So, he invited the Prophet ﷺ with five others. A man followed him and the Prophet ﷺ said to the man, "You invited me and five others. This man is following us. If you allow him, fine. Otherwise, he should go back." The man replied, "No, we allow him."

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ لِغُلَامِهِ اجْعَلْ لِي طَعَامًا لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَدَعَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَتَبِعَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِلرَّجُلِ «إِنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنِي خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَإِنَّ هَذَا تَبِعَنَا فَإِنْ أَذِنْتَ وَإِلَّا رَجَعَ» فَقَالَ بَلْ نَأْذَنُ لَهُ

[AI] A man from the Ansar, who was known as Abu Shuayb, said to his servant, "Woe to you! I have seen hunger in the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So prepare enough food for five people." The servant prepared the food and sent it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He called the man and a man who was not called also followed them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, this man is our follower, so give him permission." He said, "Yes."

أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُكْنَى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ لِغُلَامِهِ وَيْحَكَ إنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجُوعَ فَاعْمَلْ طَعَامًا يَكْفِي خَمْسَةً فَعَمِلَهُ فَبَعَثَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَدَعَاهُ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُدْعَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ هَذَا تَبِعَنَا فَتَأْذَنُ لَهُ» فَقَالَ نَعَمْ

[AI] It is said that he is called Abu Shuayb and he had a young apprentice. He said to his apprentice, "I have seen hunger in the face of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , so perhaps I will invite him to a meal on the fifth day." He prepared a meal for the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , and invited him on the fifth day. A man followed them, so the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "A man has followed us, so if you wish, give him permission."

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ لِغُلَامِهِ إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجُوعَ لَعَلِّي أَدْعُوهُ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَصَنَعَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ طَعَامًا فَدَعَاهُ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قَدْ تَبِعَنَا رَجُلٌ فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ فَائْذَنْ لَهُ»

[AI] Make enough food for our servant, five or six servings, so that I may invite the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the fifth serving. Accordingly, they invited him and a man followed them. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Indeed, you invited me for the fifth serving, and this man has accompanied us. If you wish, you may allow him, and if you wish, you may leave him." He said, "No, I will allow him."

لِغُلَامِهِ اجْعَلْ لَنَا طَعَامًا يَكْفِي خَمْسَةً أَوْ سِتَّةً لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَدَعَاهُمْ وَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّكَ دَعَوْتَنِي خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَإِنَّ هَذَا تَبِعَنَا فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَذِنْتَ لَهُ وَإنْ شِئْتَ تَرَكْتَهُ» قَالَ بَلْ آذَنُ لَهُ

[AI] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and noticed hunger on his face. I met a young servant who was a butcher, and I ordered him to prepare food for five men. Then, I invited the Prophet ﷺ and five men came, followed by another man. When he reached the door, he said, "This man has been following us. If you wish, allow him to enter, otherwise he will go back." So, I gave him permission.

عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُكْنَى أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَعَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ فَلَقِيتُ غُلَامًا لِي قَصَّابًا وَأَمَرْتُهُ أَنْ يَصْنَعَ طَعَامًا لِخَمْسِ رِجَالٍ ثُمَّ دَعَوْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَجَاءَ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْبَابَ قَالَ «هَذَا قَدْ تَبِعَنَا فَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ وَإِلَّا رَجَعَ» فَأَذِنْتُ لَهُ

[AI] He is called Abu Shuayb. He noticed hunger on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He had a generous servant, so he said to him "Prepare a meal for me, so that I could invite the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and four others." He invited them and a man followed them who had not been invited. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Has he followed us? Should I allow him?" He replied, "Yes."

يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ أَبْصَرَ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْجُوعَ وَكَانَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ لَحَّامٌ فَقَالَ اصْنَعْ لِي طَعَامًا لَعَلِّي أَدْعُو رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ فَدَعَاهُمْ فَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يُدْعَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ هَذَا قَدْ تَبِعَنَا فَتَأْذَنُ لَهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

"عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ يُكنَى أَبَا شُعَيْب قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ فَعَرفْنَا في وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ، فَأتَيْتُ غلامًا لى فَأمَرَ به أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لَنَا طَعَامًا لخَمْسَة رِجَالٍ، ثُمَّ دَعَوْتُ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ فَجَاءَ خَامِس خَمْسَة وَتَبِعَهُم رَجُلٌ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ الْبَاب قَالَ: إنَّ هَذَا قَدْ تبعَنَا، فإن شئت أَنْ تَأذَنَ لَهُ، وَإلَّا رَجَعَ، فأَذِنَ لَهُ".
