ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ عَلَى الدَّاخِلِ الْمَسْجِدَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيَتَجَوَّزَ فِيهَا

Sulaik Ghatafani came on Friday when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the sermon. He (Sulaik) sat down. He (the Holy Prophet) said to him: 0 Sulaik I stand and observe two rak'ahs and make them short, and then said: When any one of you comes on Friday, while the Imam delivers the sermon, he should observe two rak'ahs and should make them short. (Using translation from Muslim 875g)  

ابن حبّان:٢٥٠٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ السَّعْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ لَهُ «يَا سُلَيْكُ قُمْ فَارْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَلْيَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا»

[Machine] Salik Al-Ghatafani came on Friday and the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a sermon. He sat down and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When any of you comes on Friday and the Imam is delivering the sermon, let him pray two Rak'ahs and then sit."  

أحمد:١٤٤٠٥ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ لِيَجْلِسْ

[Machine] Salik Al-Ghatafani came while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a sermon, so the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to pray two units of prayer in which he would perform acts of tashahhud. He said, "When any of you comes while the imam is delivering the sermon, let him pray two units of prayer in which he would perform acts of tashahhud."  

الطبراني:٦٧١١ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ خَتَنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْنٍ الْوَاسِطِيِّ ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ ثنا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ زَاذَانَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ

جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ يَتَجَوَّزُ فِيهِمَا وَقَالَ «إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ يَتَجَوَّزُ فِيهِمَا»

[Machine] Sulayk al-Ghatafani came while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering the Friday sermon and he (Sulayk) said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ , did you pray the two Rak'ahs?" He (the Messenger of Allah) replied, "No." He (Sulayk) said, "Get up and pray two Rak'ahs, then make them brief." He also said, "When any one of you comes while the Imam is delivering the sermon, he should pray two Rak'ahs and make them brief." This is a wording attributed to 'Isa bin Yunus.  

البيهقي:٥٦٩٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي ثنا حَاجِبُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو صَالِحِ بْنُ أَبِي طَاهِرٍ أنبأ جَدِّي يَحْيَى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أنبأ عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

جَاءَ سُلَيْكٌ الْغَطَفَانِيُّ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَصَلَّيْتَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ؟ فَقَالَ لَا قَالَ قُمْ فَصَلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا وَقَالَ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمْ وَالْإِمَامُ يَخْطُبُ فَلْيَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَلْيَتَجَوَّزْ فِيهِمَا لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ عِيسَى بْنِ يُونُسَ
