14. Book of Marriage
١٤۔ كِتَابُ النِّكَاحِ
ذِكْرُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ أَنْ يُجْعَلَ بُضْعَ بَعْضَ النِّسَاءِ صَدَاقًا لِبَعْضِهِنَّ
"The Prophet prohibited Shighar." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1124)
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «نَهَى عَنِ الشِّغَارِ»
ذِكْرُ وَصْفِ الشِّغَارِ الَّذِي نُهِيَ عَنِ اسْتِعْمَالِهِ
Al-Abbas ibn Abdullah ibn al-Abbas married his daughter to Abdur Rahman ibn al-Hakam, and AbdurRahman married his daughter to him. And they made this (exchange) their dower. Mu'awiyah wrote to Marwan commanding him to separate them. He wrote in his letter: This is the shighar which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has forbidden. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2075)
وَقَالَ فِي كِتَابِهِ «هَذَا الشِّغَارُ قَدْ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْهُ»
ذِكْرُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ أَنْ يُزَوِّجَ الْمَرْءُ ابْنَتَهُ أَخَاهُ الْمُسْلِمَ عَلَى أَنْ يُزَوِّجَهُ إِيَّاهُ ابْنَتَهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ صَدَاقٍ يَكُونُ بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بُضْعَ كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا
There is no Shighar in islam. (Using translation from Muslim 1415d)
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَا شِغَارَ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ»
