We fought against the Fazara, and Abu Bakr was the commander over us. He had been appointed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When we were only at an hour's distance from the water of the enemy, Abu Bakr ordered us to attack. We made a halt during the last part of the night to rest and then we attacked from all sides and reached their watering-place where a battle was fought. Some of the enemies were killed and some were taken prisoners. I saw a group of persons that consisted of women and children. I was afraid lest they should reach the mountain before me, so I shot an arrow between them and the mountain. When they saw the arrow, they stopped. So I brought them, driving them along. Among them was a woman from Banu Fazara. She was wearing a leather coat. With her was her daughter who was one of the prettiest girls in Arabia. I drove them along until I brought them to Abu Bakr who bestowed that girl upon me as a prize. So we arrived in Medina. I had not yet disrobed her when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me in the street and said: Give me that girl, O Salama. I said: Messenger of Allah, she has fascinated me. I had not yet disrobed her. When on the next day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ again met me in the street, he said: O Salama, give me that girl, may God bless your father. I said: She is for you, Messenger of Allah! By Allah. I have not yet disrobed her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent her to the people of Mecca, and surrendered her as ransom for a number of Muslims who had been kept as prisoners at Mecca.  

غَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ وَعَلَيْنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَمَّرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَيْنَا فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ الْمَاءِ سَاعَةٌ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَعَرَّسْنَا ثُمَّ شَنَّ الْغَارَةَ فَوَرَدَ الْمَاءَ فَقَتَلَ مَنْ قَتَلَ عَلَيْهِ وَسَبَى وَأَنْظُرُ إِلَى عُنُقٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِمُ الذَّرَارِيُّ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ فَلَمَّا رَأَوُا السَّهْمَ وَقَفُوا فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ أَسُوقُهُمْ وَفِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قِشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ قَالَ الْقِشْعُ النِّطَعُ مَعَهَا ابْنَةٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ فَسُقْتُهُمْ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بِهِمْ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا ثُمَّ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْغَدِ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ فَقُلْتُ هِيَ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَوَاللَّهِ مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَبَعَثَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَفَدَى بِهَا نَاسًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَانُوا أُسِرُوا بِمَكَّةَ  

Salamah said “We went out (on an expedition) with Abu Bakr. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ appointed him commander over us. We attacked Fazarah and took them from all sides. I then saw a group of people which contained children and women. I shot an arrow towards them, but it fell between them and the mountain. They stood; I brought them to Abu Bakr. There was among them a woman of Fazarah. She wore a skin over her and her daughter who was the most beautiful of the Arabs was with her. Abu Bakr gave her daughter to me as a reward. I came back to Madeenah. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ met me and said to me “Give me the woman, Salamah. I said to him, I swear by Allaah, she is to my liking and I have not yet untied he garment. He kept silence, and when the next day came the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ met me in the market and said to me “Give me the woman, Salamah, by Allaah, your father. I said the Apostle of Allaah, I have not yet untied her garment. I swear by Allaah, she is now yours. He sent her to the people of Makkah who had (some Muslims) prisoners in their hands. They released them for this woman.  

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَأَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَغَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ فَشَنَنَّا الْغَارَةَ ثُمَّ نَظَرْتُ إِلَى عُنُقٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِ الذُّرِّيَّةُ وَالنِّسَاءُ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ فَوَقَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ فَقَامُوا فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ فَزَارَةَ وَعَلَيْهَا قِشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ مَعَهَا بِنْتٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا فَقَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِيَ الْمَرْأَةَ فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِيَ الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا وَهِيَ لَكَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَفِي أَيْدِيهِمْ أَسْرَى فَفَادَاهُمْ بِتِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ  

[Machine] "We went out with Abu Bakr ibn Abi Quhafa, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us saying, 'We have gone for a raid, so visit Ghazara.' When we approached the water, Abu Bakr commanded us and we saddled the horses. Then, after the Fajr prayer, Abu Bakr commanded us and we launched the surprise attack. We killed those who we had to kill by the water,' said Salamah. Then, I looked at a group of people - men, women, and children - heading towards the mountain while I was chasing them in their tracks. I was afraid they would reach the mountain ahead of me, so I shot an arrow that landed between them and the mountain. I brought them and drove them towards Abu Bakr, until I met him by the water. With them was a woman from Ghazara, with a hideous mark on her face, and she had her daughter with her, who was among the most beautiful of the Arabs,' he said. Abu Bakr then married her to me,' Salamah said. However, I did not remove her veil until I arrived in Madinah. Then, when I untied her, I didn't remove her veil,' he said. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me in the marketplace and said to me, 'Salamah, give me the woman.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, she has pleased me greatly, and I did not remove her veil.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent and left me. Then, the next morning, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me in the marketplace and said, 'Salamah, give me the woman for the sake of Allah, your father.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, she has pleased me greatly, and she is for you, O Messenger of Allah.' So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent her to the people of Makkah, who had Muslim captives in their hands. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ransomed those captives with this woman."  

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ وَأَمَّرَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْنَا قَالَ غَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ فَلَمَّا دَنَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَعَرَّسْنَا قَالَ فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا الصُّبْحَ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَشَنَيْنَا الْغَارَةَ فَقَتَلْنَا عَلَى الْمَاءِ مَنْ قَتَلْنَا قَالَ سَلَمَةُ ثُمَّ نَظَرْتُ إِلَى عُنُقٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِ الذُّرِّيَّةُ وَالنِّسَاءُ نَحْوَ الْجَبَلِ وَأَنَا أَعْدُو فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ فَوَقَعَبَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ قَالَ فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ أَسُوقُهُمْ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُهُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ وَفِيهِمْ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ وَمَعَهَا ابْنَةٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ قَالَ فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا قَالَ فَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ثُمَّ بِتُّ فَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا قَالَ فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا قَالَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَنِي حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَاللهِ أَعْجَبَتْنِي مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا وَهِيَ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَفِي أَيْدِيهِمْ أُسَارَى مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَفَدَاهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِتِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , sent Abu Bakr to Fazarah, and I went with him until we approached the water. Abu Bakr unleashed his camel, and when we prayed dawn prayer, he commanded us to prepare for an ambush. We returned to the water, and Abu Bakr killed those who killed, while we were with him. Salamah said, "I saw a group of people with necklaces among them, so I feared that they would precede me to the mountain. I caught up with them and shot an arrow between them and the mountain. When they saw the arrow, they stood up. Then, I saw a woman from Fazarah wearing a dress made of Qisha with her daughter, who was one of the most beautiful Arab girls. I came to them to take them to Abu Bakr, but Abu Bakr gifted them to me instead. I did not reveal her dress until we reached Al-Madinah. She then stayed with me, and I did not reveal her dress until the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , met me in the market. He said, 'O Salamah, give me the woman.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I am infatuated by her, and I have not revealed her dress.' He remained silent until the next day, when I met the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , in the market, and I did not reveal her dress. He said, 'O Salamah, give me the woman for the sake of Allah.' I said, 'She is yours, O Messenger of Allah.' He then sent her to the people of Makkah as a ransom for some Muslims who were in the hands of the pagans."  

بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِلَى فَزَارَةَ وَخَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا دَنَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ عَرَّسَ أَبُو بَكْرٍحَتَّى إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا الصُّبْحَ أَمَرَنَا فَشَنَنَّا الْغَارَةَ فَوَرَدْنَا الْمَاءَ فَقَتَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مَنْ قَتَلَ وَنَحْنُ مَعَهُ قَالَ سَلَمَةُ فَرَأَيْتُ عُنُقًا مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِمُ الذَّرَارِيُّ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَأَدْرَكْتُهُمْ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا السَّهْمَ قَامُوا فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ مَعَهَا ابْنَةٌ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ فَجِئْتُ أَسُوقُهُنَّ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا فَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ثُمَّ بَاتَتْ عِنْدِي فَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا قَالَ فَسَكَتَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ الْغَدُ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ وَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَقَالَ يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ هِيَ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَفَدَى بِهَا أُسَرَاءَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَانُوا فِي أَيْدِي الْمُشْرِكِينَ

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَغَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ فَلَمَّا دَنَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَعَرَّسْنَا فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا الصُّبْحَ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ بِشَنِّ الْغَارَةِ فَقَتَلْنَا عَلَى الْمَاءِ مَنْ قَتَلْنَا قَالَ سَلَمَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى عُنُقِ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِ الذُّرِّيَّةُ وَالنِّسَاءُ وَأَنَا أَعْدُو فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ فَوَقَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ فَقَامُوا فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ أَسُوقُهُمْ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ الْمَاءَ وَفِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ مِنْ آدَمَ مَعَهَا بِنْتٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا فَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ ثُمَّ بِتُّ وَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَنِي ثُمَّ لَقِيَنِي مِنَ الْغَدِ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ «يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ» قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَهِيَ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَفِي أَيْدِيهِمْ أَسْرَى مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَفَدَاهُمْ بِتِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ فَكَّهُمْ بِهَا  

[Machine] We went out with Abu Bakr and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him to lead us, so we engaged in battle until we reached a water source. Abu Bakr commanded us to give water to our animals. After performing the Fajr prayer, Abu Bakr commanded us to launch a surprise attack. We killed those we fought against near the water. Salamah said, "I looked and saw some people with their offspring and women. I was afraid they would escape to the mountains before me, so I shot an arrow that landed between them and the mountain. They got up and I brought them to Abu Bakr to see what to do with them. We continued driving them until we reached the water. Among them was a woman from Fazara, wearing a red leather necklace, and with her was a beautiful Arab girl. Abu Bakr's daughter fell in love with her and requested me to give her the girl as a servant. I did not uncover her until we reached Madinah. I left without uncovering her and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me and said, 'O Salamah, give me the woman.' I replied, 'O Messenger of Allah, I swear by Allah, she has amazed me and I have not uncovered her.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent and left me. The next day, he met me in the market and said, 'O Salamah, give me the woman for the sake of Allah, not your father.' I replied, 'O Messenger of Allah, I swear by Allah, I have not uncovered her and she is yours.' After that day, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent her to the people of Makkah who were holding Muslim captives. He ransomed them with that woman and they were freed. This is according to the narration of Abu al-Walid.  

خَرَجْنَا مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ فَأَمَّرَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْنَا فَغَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ فَلَمَّا دَنَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ فَعَرَّسْنَا فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا الصُّبْحَ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَشَنَنَّا الْغَارَةَ فَقَتَلْنَا عَلَى الْمَاءِ مَنْ قَتَلْنَا قَالَ سَلَمَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى عُنُقٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِ الذُّرِّيَّةُ وَالنِّسَاءُ وَأَنَا أَعْدُو فِي آثَارِهِمْ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ فَوَقَعَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ فَقَامُوا فَجِئْتُ بِهِمْ أَسُوقُهُمْ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ وَفِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ مَعَهَا بِنْتٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ فَنَفَّلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ابْنَتَهَا فَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَخَرَجْتُ وَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِيَ الْمَرْأَةَ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَنِي ثُمَّ لَقِيَنِي مِنَ الْغَدِ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ «يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِيَ الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ» فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَاللهِ مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا وَهِيَ لَكَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ لَقِيَنِي فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ «يَا سَلَمَةُ مَا فَعَلَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ» قَالَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَفِي أَيْدِيهِمْ أَسْرَى مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَفَدَاهُمْ بِتِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ فَفَكَّهُمْ بِهَا وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَدِيثِ أَبِي الْوَلِيدِ  

[Machine] With Abu Bakr, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us, so we went to Fazarah. When we approached the water, Abu Bakr commanded us to saddle the camels. When we prayed Fajr, Abu Bakr commanded us to initiate the attack. We descended upon the water. Salamah said, "I looked at a group of people, among them were children and women, and I feared that they would reach the mountain before me. So I took their footsteps and threw an arrow between them and the mountain. They stood still. I then came to drive them to Abu Bakr, in which there was a woman from the tribe of Fazarah, with a lock of black hair, and with her was her daughter, the most beautiful of the Arabs. Abu Bakr then granted her to me as a war captive. I did not uncover her until we reached Medina, and I did not uncover her until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met me in the market. He said, "O Salamah, gift me the woman." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am amazed by her, and I did not uncover her until we reached Medina." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent and left me. Then the next day, when we met in the market, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "O Salamah, gift me the woman, for the sake of Allah." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am amazed by her, and by Allah, I did not uncover her, and she is yours, O Messenger of Allah." He then sent her to the people of Makkah, and she was ransomed by some Muslim men with their own hands.  

مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ وَأَمَّرَهُ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَغَزَوْنَا فَزَارَةَ فَلَمَّا دَنَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ فَعَرَّسْنَا فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا الصُّبْحَ أَمَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ فَشَنَنَّا الْغَارَةَ فَنَزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمَاءِ قَالَ سَلَمَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى عُنُقٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِيهِمُ الذُّرِّيَّةُ وَالنِّسَاءُ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَسْبِقُونِي إِلَى الْجَبَلِ فَأَخَذْتُ آثَارَهُمْ فَرَمَيْتُ بِسَهْمٍ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ الْجَبَلِ فَقَامُوا فَجِئْتُ أَسُوقُهُمْ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ وَفِيهِمُ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ عَلَيْهَا قَشْعٌ مِنْ أَدَمٍ وَمَعَهَا ابْنَةٌ لَهَا مِنْ أَحْسَنِ الْعَرَبِ فَنَفَلَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ ابْنَتَهَا فَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَلَمْ أَكْشِفْ لَهَا ثَوْبًا وَلَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِي الْمَرْأَةَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَمَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا حَتَّى قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَتَرَكَنِي حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ مِنَ الْغَدِ لَقِيَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي السُّوقِ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سَلَمَةُ هَبْ لِيَ الْمَرْأَةَ لِلَّهِ أَبُوكَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ أَعْجَبَتْنِي وَاللهِ مَا كَشَفْتُ لَهَا ثَوْبًا وَهِيَ لَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَفَدَى بِهَا رِجَالًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ
