2. Book of Knowledge (4/4)
[Machine] "He heard the narration of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , we had a village and livelihoods, but people were not lying at that time, so the absent witness would narrate."
[Machine] "If it is not in the Book of Allah, and it is something that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, then indeed, if it is not from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but it is something that Abu Bakr and Umar said, then if Abu Bakr and Umar do not have anything regarding it, then he said it based on his own opinion."
[Machine] "Abdullah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Verily, lying is not appropriate whether it is done seriously or in jest, or when a person promises his son but does not fulfill it. Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And indeed, lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. It is said about the truthful person, 'He is truthful and virtuous,' and about the liar, 'He lied and is treacherous.' Indeed, a person continues to tell the truth until they are recorded with Allah as truthful, or they keep lying until they are recorded with Allah as a liar.'"
The Prophet ﷺ said: The Jews were split up into seventy-one or seventy-two sects; and the Christians were split up into seventy one or seventy-two sects; and my community will be split up into seventy-three sects. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4596)
“The Jews split into seventy-one sects and my nation will split into seventy-three sects.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3991)
[Machine] We performed Hajj with Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan, and when we arrived in Mecca, he was informed of a storyteller who was narrating to the people of Mecca, a servant of the Banu Farrukh. Mu'awiya sent for him and asked, "Were you ordered to give these narrations?" He replied, "No." Mu'awiya then asked, "So what led you to narrate without permission?" The man replied, "We are imparting knowledge that Allah has taught us." Mu'awiya said, "Had I warned you beforehand, I would have severed a part of you."
Then, after the Dhuhr prayer in Mecca, Mu'awiya stood up and said: The Prophet ﷺ said, "The People of the Book divided themselves into seventy-two sects in their religion, and this Ummah will divide into seventy-three, all of which will be in the fire except one, which is the congregation. From my Ummah, there will emerge people driven by desires just as rabies drives its host, leaving no vein or joint without being infected. By Allah, O Arabs, if you do not uphold that which Muhammad ﷺ brought, surely nothing else will you uphold."

2.9 Abdullah b. Amr
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What befell the children of Isra'il will befall my Ummah, step by step, such that if there was one who had intercourse with his mother in the open, then there would be someone from my Ummah who would do that. Indeed the children of Isra'il split into seventy-two sects, and my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects. All of them are in the Fire Except one sect." He said: "And which is it O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "What I am upon and my Companions." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2641)
2.10 [Machine] As for the statement of Amr ibn Awf al-Muzani
[Machine] We were sitting around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his mosque when he said, "You will follow the practices of those before you, step by step, to the extent that if they were to enter a lizard's hole, you would enter it too." We asked, "O Messenger of Allah, are you referring to the Jews and Christians?" He replied, "Who else?" The Jews split into seventy-one groups, all misguided except one. The Christians split into seventy-two groups, all misguided except one. And this Ummah will split into seventy-three groups, all misguided except one: the Jamāʿah (the united group) and the true understanding of Islam." [At-Tirmidhi]
