[Machine] We acquire knowledge that Allah, the Almighty, has taught us. Muawiya said, "If I had preceded you, I would have cut off a faction from you." Then, he stood up when he prayed the Dhuhr prayer in Mecca and said, "The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Indeed, the people of the Scripture have divided in their religion into seventy-two sects, and this Ummah will divide into seventy-three, all of them in the Fire except for one, and it is the Jama'ah (the united group).' And there will emerge from my Ummah people who will trade with their desires just as the dog trades with its tongue. Not a vein or joint will remain except that they will enter it. By Allah, O Arabs, if you do not adhere to what Muhammad ﷺ came with, then there is nothing more deserving for you not to adhere to." "These are chains of narrators that are used as evidence in confirming the authenticity of this Hadith, and this Hadith has been narrated from Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-'As and Amr bin 'Awf Al-Muzani through two separate chains of narration. One of them is singled out by Abdurrahman bin Ziyad Al-Afriqi, and the other is Ka'thir bin Abdullah Al-Muzani. They are not considered as evidence." These are the chains of narrators that are used as evidence in confirming the authenticity.  

الحاكم:٤٤٣وَمِنْهَا مَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ الْبَهْرَانِيُّ ثنا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنِ الْأَزْهَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَامِرٍ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ لُحَيٍّ قَالَ حَجَجْنَا مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ أُخْبِرَ بِقَاصٍّ يَقُصُّ عَلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ مَوْلًى لِبَنِي فَرُّوخٍ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقَالَ أُمِرْتَ بِهَذِهِ الْقِصَصِ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ فَمَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى أَنْ تَقُصَّ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنٍ قَالَ

نُنْشِئُ عِلْمًا عَلَمَنَاهُ اللَّهُ ﷻ فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَوْ كُنْتُ تَقَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكَ لَقَطَعْتُ مِنْكَ طَائِفَةً ثُمَّ قَامَ حِينَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِمَكَّةَ فَقَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَفَرَّقُوا فِي دِينِهِمْ عَلَى اثْنَتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ مِلَّةً وَتَفْتَرِقُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةُ عَلَى ثَلَاثٍ وَسَبْعِينَ كُلُّهَا فِي النَّارِ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً وَهِيَ الْجَمَاعَةُ وَيَخْرُجُ مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَقْوَامٌ تَتَجَارَى بِهِمْ تِلْكَ الْأَهْوَاءُ كَمَا يَتَجَارَى الْكَلْبُ بِصَاحِبِهِ فَلَا يَبْقَى مِنْهُ عِرْقٌ وَلَا مَفْصِلٌ إِلَّا دَخَلَهُ وَاللَّهِ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْعَرَبِ لَئِنْ لَمْ تَقُومُوا بِمَا جَاءَ بِهِ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ لَغَيْرُ ذَلِكَ أَحْرَى أَنْ لَا تَقُومُوا بِهِ» «هَذِهِ أَسَانِيدُ تُقَامُ بِهَا الْحُجَّةُ فِي تَصْحِيحِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ وَعَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ بِإِسْنَادَيْنِ تَفَرَّدَ بِأَحَدِهِمَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْأَفْرِيقِيُّ وَالْآخَرُ كَثِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُزَنِيُّ وَلَا تَقُومُ بِهِمَا الْحُجَّةُ» هذه أسانيد تقوم بها الحجة

[Machine] "Abu Al-Mughira, in another place, narrated that Al-Harazi reported from Abu Amer Abdullah ibn Luhay saying: We performed Hajj with Muawiyah ibn Abu Sufyan. When we arrived in Mecca, he stood up after performing the Dhuhr prayer and said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The people of the two scriptures (Jews and Christians) split into seventy-two sects, and this Ummah (Muslim nation) will split into seventy-three sects, all of them in Hellfire except one, and that is the Jama'ah (main group). And indeed, there will emerge among my Ummah people who will follow other desires (sects) like stray dogs follow their owners. Any vein or joint they enter, and O people of the Arabs, I swear by Allah, if you don't adhere to what your Prophet ﷺ brought, then others among the people will be more worthy of following it."

أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ الْحَرَازِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عَامِرٍ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ لُحَيٍّ قَالَ حَجَجْنَا مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ قَامَ حِينَ صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابَيْنِ افْتَرَقُوا فِي دِينِهِمْ عَلَى ثِنْتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ مِلَّةً وَإِنَّ هَذِهِالْأُمَّةَ سَتَفْتَرِقُ عَلَى ثَلَاثٍ وَسَبْعِينَ مِلَّةً يَعْنِي الْأَهْوَاءَ كُلُّهَا فِي النَّارِ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً وَهِيَ الْجَمَاعَةُ وَإِنَّهُ سَيَخْرُجُ فِي أُمَّتِي أَقْوَامٌ تَجَارَى بِهِمْ تِلْكَ الْأَهْوَاءُ كَمَا يَتَجَارَى الْكَلْبُ بِصَاحِبِهِ لَا يَبْقَى مِنْهُ عِرْقٌ وَلَا مَفْصِلٌ إِلَّا دَخَلَهُ وَاللهِ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْعَرَبِ لَئِنْ لَمْ تَقُومُوا بِمَا جَاءَ بِهِ نَبِيُّكُمْ ﷺ لَغَيْرُكُمْ مِنَ النَّاسِ أَحْرَى أَنْ لَا يَقُومَ بِهِ

[Machine] Muawiyah, if I had approached you before this period, I would have cut off a part of you, then I would have stood up and prayed Dhuhr in Makkah. Then he said: The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "The people of the Book divided into seventy-two sects, and this nation will divide into seventy-three sects, all of them are in the Fire except one, which is the group (Al-Jama'ah)." And he said: "There will come out from my nation people who deal with desires as the dog deals with its master. Not a vein or a joint will be left except that they enter it." By Allah, O Arabs, if you do not uphold what Muhammad, ﷺ , brought, then others among the people are more deserving of upholding it.
