that he heard Ibn ʿUmar saying, "Weren't people forbidden to make vows?" The Prophet ﷺ said, 'A vow neither hastens nor delays anything, but by the making of vows, some of the wealth of a miser is taken out."

When I received news of that, I made a vow that if Allah brings back my son, I would walk to the Kaaba. But my son came back and fell ill and then died. What do you think?" Ibn Umar replied, "Did you not heed the prohibition on making vows? The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, 'Vows do not bring about anything nor defer anything; rather, they only extract something from a miserly person.' Fulfill your vow."
