[Machine] He heard Abdullah ibn Umar being asked by a man from the Banu Ka'b, known as Mas'ud ibn 'Amr, "O Abu Abdur-Rahman! My son was in the land of Fars with the people who were with Umar ibn Ubaydullah. And a severe plague broke out in Basra. When I received news of that, I made a vow that if Allah brings back my son, I would walk to the Kaaba. But my son came back and fell ill and then died. What do you think?" Ibn Umar replied, "Did you not heed the prohibition on making vows? The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, 'Vows do not bring about anything nor defer anything; rather, they only extract something from a miserly person.' Fulfill your vow."
