We emigrated with the Prophet ﷺ in Allah's cause, and so our reward was then surely incumbent on Allah. Some of us died and they did not take anything from their rewards in this world, and amongst them was Mustab bin ʿUmar; and the others were those who got their rewards. Mustab bin ʿUmar was martyred on the day of the Battle of Uhud and we could get nothing except his Burd to shroud him in. And when we covered his head his feet became bare and vice versa. So the Prophet ﷺ ordered us to cover his head only and to put idhkhir (a kind of shrub) over his feet.  

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَلْتَمِسُ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ فَوَقَعَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَاتَ لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَلَمْ نَجِدْ مَا نُكَفِّنُهُ إِلاَّ بُرْدَةً إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلاَهُ وَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ فَأَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ نُغَطِّيَ رَأْسَهُ وَأَنْ نَجْعَلَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ مِنَ الإِذْخِرِ  

We visited Khabbaba who said, "We migrated with the Prophet ﷺ for Allah's Sake, so our reward became due and sure with Allah. Some of us passed away without taking anything of their rewards (in this world) and one of them was Musʿab bin ʿUmar who was martyred on the day (of the battle) of Uhud leaving a striped woolen cloak. When we covered his head with it, his feet became naked, and when covered his feet, his head became naked. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to cover his head and put some Idhkhir (i.e. a special kind of grass) on his feet. (On the other hand) some of us have had their fruits ripened (in this world) and they are collecting them."  

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نُرِيدُ وَجْهَ اللَّهِ فَوَقَعَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى لَمْ يَأْخُذْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَتَرَكَ نَمِرَةً فَكُنَّا إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ بَدَتْ رِجْلاَهُ وَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رِجْلَيْهِ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نُغَطِّيَ رَأْسَهُ وَنَجْعَلَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ شَيْئًا مِنْ إِذْخِرٍ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهْوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

We migrated with Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking Allah's Countenance, so our rewards became due and sure with Allah. Some of us passed away without eating anything of their rewards in this world. One of these was Musʿab bin ʿUmar who was martyred on the day of the battle of Uhud. We did not find anything to shroud his body with except a striped cloak. When we covered his head with it, his feet remained uncovered, and when we covered his feet with it, his head remained uncovered. So Allah's Apostle ordered us to cover his head with it and put some Idhkhir (i.e. a kind of grass) over his feet. And there are some amongst us whose fruits have ripened and they are collecting them (i.e. they have received their rewards in this world).  

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللَّهِ وَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَلَمْ نَجِدْ شَيْئًا نُكَفِّنُهُ فِيهِ إِلاَّ نَمِرَةً كُنَّا إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلاَهُ فَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نُغْطِيَ رَأْسَهُ بِهَا وَنَجْعَلَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ مِنْ إِذْخِرٍ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهْوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

We migrated in the company of Messenger of Allah ﷺ, seeking Allah's Pleasure. So our reward became due and sure with Allah. Some of us have been dead without enjoying anything of their rewards (here), and one of them was Mus'ab bin 'Umar who was martyred on the day of the battle of Uhud, and did not leave anything except a Namira (i.e. a sheet in which he was shrouded). If we covered his head with it, his feet became naked, and if we covered his feet with it, his head became naked. So the Prophet ﷺ said to us, "Cover his head with it and put some Idhkhir (i.e. a kind of grass) over his feet or throw Idhkhir over his feet." But some amongst us have got the fruits of their labor ripened, and they are collecting them.

But some of us have got their fruits ripened, and they are collecting them.  

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللَّهِ فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى أَوْ ذَهَبَ لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا كَانَ مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ إِلاَّ نَمِرَةً كُنَّا إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلاَهُ وَإِذَا غُطِّيَ بِهَا رِجْلاَهُ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ فَقَالَ لَنَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ غَطُّوا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ وَاجْعَلُوا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ الإِذْخِرَ أَوْ قَالَ أَلْقُوا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ مِنَ الإِذْخِرِ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهْوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

We migrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the path of Allah seeking Allah's pleasure alone. Thus our reward was assured with Allah. And amongst us were those who spent life (in such a state of piety and austerity) that nothing consumed their reward. Mus'ab b. 'Umair was one of them. He was killed on the Day of Uhud, and nothing but a woollen cloak was found to shroud him. When we covered his head with it, his feet became uncovered, and when we covered his feet, his head was uncovered. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Place it (this cloak) on the side of his head and cover his feet with grass. And there is one amongst us for whom the fruit is ripened and he enjoys it.

"We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah, seeking the Face of Allah, the Most High, so our reward became due from Allah. Some of us died without enjoying anything of his reward (in this world) among them is Mus'ab bin Umair. He was matyred on the day of Uhud and we could not find anything to shroud him in except a Namirah; if we covered his head with it, his feet were uncovered, and if we covered his feet with it, his head became uncovered. The Messenger of Allah told us to cover his head with it and to put Idhkhir over his feet. And for some of us, the fruits of our labor have ripened and we are gathering them." This is the wording of Isma'il

"We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, seeking the Face of Allah. So our reward is with Allah. Among us were those who died and did not consume any of the rewards (in this life), and among us were those who lived to see its fruits and tend to them. Verily, Musab bin 'Umair died without leaving anything behind but a garment. When they covered his head with it, his feet would become exposed, and when they covered his feet with it, his head will become exposed. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Cover his head and place Al-Idhkir over his feet."

"We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, seeking the Face of Allah. So our reward is with Allah. [Machine] "We migrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking the pleasure of Allah. Our wages were upon Allah. Among us was Mus'ab ibn 'Umair, who was martyred on the day of Uhud, leaving behind only a shroud. Whenever we placed it on his feet, his head would be exposed, and when we placed it on his head, his feet would be exposed. And among us were those whose fruits would ripen, so he would distribute them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then commanded us to place it on his head, and then place some of the fruits on his feet."  

«إِنَّا هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللَّهِ فَوَقَعَ أُجُورُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَتَرَكَ بُرْدَةً فَكُنَّا إِذَا جَعَلْنَاهَا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ وَإِذَا جَعَلْنَاهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ بَدَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَجْعَلَهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ ثُمَّ نَجْعَلَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ شَيْئًا مِنْ إِذْخِرٍ»

[Machine] I heard Kabab bin Al-Aratt saying, "We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking the face of Allah ﷻ, so our reward is upon Allah. Amongst us, there are those who have passed away without consuming anything from his good deeds. Amongst them is Mus'ab bin Umair, who was killed on the day of Uhud and left behind a sheet. When we placed it on his feet, his head was exposed, and when we placed it on his head, his feet were exposed." The Prophet ﷺ then ordered us to place it on his head and to put something from the perfume "Adhkar" on his feet. And amongst us are those whose fruits have ripened, so he would pick and eat them.  

سَمِعْتُ خَبَّابَ بْنَ الْأَرَتِّ يَقُولُ إِنَّا هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ ﷻ فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ حَسَنَاتِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَتَرَكَ بُرْدَةً إِذَا جَعَلْنَاهَا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ وَإِذَا جَعَلْنَاهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ بَدَتْ رِجْلَاهُ «فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ نَجْعَلَهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَنَجْعَلَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْإِذْخِرِ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا» يَعْنِي يَأْكُلُهَا

This is the wording of Isma'il (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1903)  

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ ﷻ وَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَلَمْ نَجِدْ شَيْئًا نُكَفِّنُهُ فِيهِ إِلَّا نَمِرَةً إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَنْ نُغَطِّيَ رَأْسَهُ وَنَجْعَلَ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ إِذْخِرًا» وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

"We emigrated with the Messenger of Allah, seeking the Face of Allah, the Most High, so our reward became due from Allah. Some of us died without enjoying anything of his reward (in this world) among them is Mus'ab bin Umair. He was matyred on the day of Uhud and we could not find anything to shroud him in except a Namirah; if we covered his head with it, his feet were uncovered, and if we covered his feet with it, his head became uncovered. The Messenger of Allah told us to cover his head with it and to put Idhkhir over his feet. And for some of us, the fruits of our labor have ripened and we are gathering them." إِنَّا قَوْمٌ هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ قُبِضَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَلَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ إِلَّا نَمِرَةٌ كَانَ إِذَا غُطِّيَ بِهَا رَأْسُهُ خَرَجَ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا غُطِّيَ بِهَا رِجْلَاهُ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «غَطُّوا بِهَا رَأْسَهُ وَاجْعَلُوا عَلَيْهِ إِذْخِرًا» وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

We migrated with Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking Allah's Countenance, so our rewards became due and sure with Allah. Some of us passed away without eating anything of their rewards in this world. One of these was Musʿab bin ʿUmar who was martyred on the day of the battle of Uhud. We did not find anything to shroud his body with except a striped cloak. When we covered his head with it, his feet remained uncovered, and when we covered his feet with it, his head remained uncovered. So Allah's Apostle ordered us to cover his head with it and put some Idhkhir (i.e. a kind of grass) over his feet. And there are some amongst us whose fruits have ripened and they are collecting them (i.e. they have received their rewards in this world). (Using translation from Bukhārī 3914)  

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَاتَ لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَلَمْ نَجِدْ شَيْئًا نُكَفِّنُهُ فِيهِ إِلَّا نَمِرَةً كُنَّا إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رَأْسَهُ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا بِهَا رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ «فَأَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نُغَطِّيَ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ وَنَجْعَلُ عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ إِذْخِرًا وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا» اللَّفْظُ لِإِسْمَاعِيلَ  

We migrated with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the path of Allah seeking Allah's pleasure alone. Thus our reward was assured with Allah. And amongst us were those who spent life (in such a state of piety and austerity) that nothing consumed their reward. Mus'ab b. 'Umair was one of them. He was killed on the Day of Uhud, and nothing but a woollen cloak was found to shroud him. When we covered his head with it, his feet became uncovered, and when we covered his feet, his head was uncovered. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Place it (this cloak) on the side of his head and cover his feet with grass. And there is one amongst us for whom the fruit is ripened and he enjoys it. (Using translation from Muslim 940a)   

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ فَلَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ شَيْءٌ يُكَفَّنُ فِيهِ إِلَّا نَمِرَةً فَكُنَّا إِذَا وَضَعْنَاهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا وَضَعْنَاهَا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ضَعُوهَا مِمَّا يَلِي رَأْسَهُ وَاجْعَلُوا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ مِنَ الْإِذْخِرِ قَالَ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يُهْدِيهَا  

We visited Khabbaba who said, "We migrated with the Prophet ﷺ for Allah's Sake, so our reward became due and sure with Allah. Some of us passed away without taking anything of their rewards (in this world) and one of them was Musʿab bin ʿUmar who was martyred on the day (of the battle) of Uhud leaving a striped woolen cloak. When we covered his head with it, his feet became naked, and when covered his feet, his head became naked. So Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us to cover his head and put some Idhkhir (i.e. a special kind of grass) on his feet. (On the other hand) some of us have had their fruits ripened (in this world) and they are collecting them." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3897)   

هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺوَنَحْنُ نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ فَوَقَعَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللهِ فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى مِنْ قَبْلُ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا كَانَ مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ إِلَّا نَمِرَةً فَكُنَّا إِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رَأْسَهُ بَدَتْ رِجْلَاهُ وَإِذَا غَطَّيْنَا رِجْلَيْهِ بَدَا رَأْسُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺغَطُّوا رَأْسَهُ وَاجْعَلُوا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ مِنَ الْإِذْخِرِ وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهُوَ يَهْدِبُهَا  

"قَالَ: هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسولِ اللهِ ﷺ نَبْتَغِى وَجْهَ اللهِ، فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلى الله، فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى لَمْ يَأكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا، مِنْهُم مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَومَ أُحُدٍ، فَلَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ شَئٌ يُكَفَّنُ فِيهِ إلَّا نَمِرَةٌ كانُوا إذَا وَضَعُوهَا عَلَى رَأسِهِ قد خَرَجَتْ رِجْلَاهُ، وَإِذَا وَضَعُوهَا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأسُهُ، فَقَالَ رسولُ اللهِ ﷺ : اجْعلُوهَا مِمّا يَلِى رَأسَهُ، وَاجْعَلُوا عَلى رِجْلَيْهِ مِن الإذْخِرِ. وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ بِهِ ثَمَرَتُهُ فهو (يَمُدُّ بها) ".
