At the time of Ibn Az-Zubair, we were struck with famine, and he provided us with dates for our food. ʿAbdullah bin ʿUmar used to pass by us while we were eating, and say, "Do not eat two dates together at a time, for the Prophet ﷺ forbade the taking of two dates together at a time (in a gathering)." Ibn ʿUmar used to add, "Unless one takes the permission of one's companions."  

البخاري:٥٤٤٦حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا جَبَلَةُ بْنُ سُحَيْمٍ قَالَ

أَصَابَنَا عَامُ سَنَةٍ مَعَ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ فَرَزَقَنَا تَمْرًا فَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ يَمُرُّ بِنَا وَنَحْنُ نَأْكُلُ وَيَقُولُ لاَ تُقَارِنُوا فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْقِرَانِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ الإِذْنُ مِنْ قَوْلِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

Ibn Zubair used to provide us with dates during the time that the people were hard pressed because of famine (Once) as we were busy in eating there happened to appear before us Ibn 'Umar. He said: Don't eat two dates together, for Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade eating them together but only after seeking permission from his brother (partner). Shu'ba said: I do not think these words pertaining to seeking permission but from the words of Ibn 'Umar. (Using translation from Muslim 2045a)  

أحمد:٥٥٣٣حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ جَبَلَةَ بْنِ سُحَيْمٍ قَالَ كَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ يَرْزُقُنَا التَّمْرَ قَالَ

وَقَدْ كَانَ أَصَابَ النَّاسَ يَوْمَئِذٍ جَهْدٌ فَكُنَّا نَأْكُلُ فَيَمُرُّ عَلَيْنَا ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَنَحْنُ نَأْكُلُ فَيَقُولُ لَا تُقَارِنُوا فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْإِقْرَانِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ لَا أَرَى فِي الِاسْتِئْذَانِ إِلَّا أَنَّ الْكَلِمَةَ مِنْ كَلَامِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

"While at Medina we were struck with famine. Ibn Az-Zubair used to provide us with dates as our food. Ibn ʿUmar used to pass by us and say, "Don't eat two dates together at a time as the Prophet ﷺ has forbidden eating two dates together at a time (in a gathering) unless one takes the permission of one's companion brother." الدارمي:٢١٠٣أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا جَبَلَةُ بْنُ سُحَيْمٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَأَصَابَتْنَا سَنَةٌ فَكَانَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ يَرْزُقُ التَّمْرَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَمُرُّ بِنَا وَيَقُولُ لَا تُقَارِنُوا «فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْقِرَانِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَأْذِنَ الرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ»

[Machine] The son of Zubair used to provide us with dates, so Ibn Umar would say, "Do not compare, for indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited reciting the Quran except with the permission of the companion." 6696 from Abdul Hamid bin Muhammad from Khalid bin Harith from Shu'bah who stopped at it.
