8.62 The construction of (the prophet's pbuh) mosque
٨۔٦٢ باب بُنْيَانِ الْمَسْجِدِ
[Machine] "Abu Sa'id said, the roof of the mosque was made of palm leaves. Umar ordered the construction of the mosque and said, it is necessary for the people to be sheltered from the rain, but be cautious not to decorate it excessively or use colors that may distract people. Anas said, they used to boast about it, but only a few of them took the effort to maintain it. Ibn Abbas said, let us decorate it as the Jews and the Christians have decorated their places of worship."
وَقَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ كَانَ سَقْفُ الْمَسْجِدِ مِنْ جَرِيدِ النَّخْلِ. وَأَمَرَ عُمَرُ بِبِنَاءِ الْمَسْجِدِ وَقَالَ أَكِنَّ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْمَطَرِ، وَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ تُحَمِّرَ أَوْ تُصَفِّرَ، فَتَفْتِنَ النَّاسَ. وَقَالَ أَنَسٌ يَتَبَاهَوْنَ بِهَا، ثُمَّ لاَ يَعْمُرُونَهَا إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً. وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ لَتُزَخْرِفُنَّهَا كَمَا زَخْرَفَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى.
