'Umar said: "I know that the Messenger of Allah and his companions did it, but I did not like that people should lay with their wives in the shade of the Arak trees, and then go out for Hajj with their heads dripping."

“Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari used to issue rulings concerning Tamattu’. Then a man said to him: ‘Withhold some of your rulings, for you do not know what the Commander of the Believers has introduced into the rites after you.’ (Abu Musa said:) ‘Then when I met him later on, I asked him.’ ‘Umar said: ‘I know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions did it, but I did not like that people should lie with their wives in the shade of the Arak trees and then go out for Hajj with their heads dripping,’ (i.e. due to the bath after sexual relations).”

Do not rush in giving fatwas, for you do not know what Ameer al-Muʿmineen has decided with regard to Haji. When he met him later on, he asked him and ‘Umar said: I know that the Prophet ﷺ did it and his Companions did it, but I do not like [the people] to have intercourse with [their wives] beneath the arak trees and go out to Hajj with their heads dripping(from ghusl).

[Machine] There is a man who told you about some of your youth, for you do not know what the commander of the faithful did in the rituals after you until he met him later and asked him, and Umar said to him: "I know that the Prophet ﷺ did it and his companions, but I disliked for them to be seen wearing them under the swords, and then they return with their heads dripping." And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us that Abu al-Fadl ibn Ibrahim informed us that Ahmad ibn Salamah informed us that Muhammad ibn Bashshar and Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna said: Muhammad ibn Jafar mentioned it similarly, except that he said: "Then they go for their pilgrimage and their heads drip", and he did not mention his saying: "And his companions."
