أَنْ أُحَدِّثَ بِهِ مَا عَاشَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَذَكَرَ عَامِرٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ وَهُوَ قَاضِي الْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «سَيَكُونُ أُمَرَاءُ مِنْ بَعْدِي يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا لَا يَؤْمَرُونَ فَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِيَدِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِلِسَانِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِقَلْبِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ لَا إِيمَانَ بَعْدَهُ»

[AI] the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There has not been a prophet except that he had disciples whom he would guide with his guidance and who would follow his Sunnah (way of life). Then after them, there would be generations who would say what they do not do and do what they disapprove of. So, whoever fights against them with his hands, he is a believer, and whoever fights against them with his tongue, he is a believer, and whoever fights against them with his heart, he is a believer. There is no faith beyond that even to the weight of a mustard seed.'

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «مَا كَانَ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا كَانَ لَهُ حَوَارِيُّونَ يُهْدُونَ بِهَدْيِهِ وَيَسْتَنُّونَ بِسُنَّتِهِ ثُمَّ يَكُونُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ أَقْوَامٌ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُنْكِرُونَ فَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِيَدِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِلِسَانِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ وَمَنْ جَاهَدَهُمْ بِقَلْبِهِ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ لَيْسَ وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ»

[AI] Narrated by Abu Rafi, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah, from Abdullah bin Mas'ud, who said that the Prophet of Allah, ﷺ , said: "There was no prophet who did not have disciples who followed his guidance and followed his Sunnah (traditions). Whoever fights against them with his hand is a believer, and whoever fights against them with his tongue is a believer, and whoever fights against them with his heart is a believer.
