The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit me, accompanied by Ali who was convalescing. We had some ripe dates hung up. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up and began to eat from them. Ali also got up to eat, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said repeatedly to Ali: Stop, Ali, for you are convalescing, and Ali stopped. She said: I then prepared some barley and beer-root and brought it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: Take some of this, Ali, for it will be more beneficial for you. AbuDawud said: The narrator Harun said: al-Adawiyyah (i.e. Umm al-Mundhar).  

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَأَبُو عَامِرٍ وَهَذَا لَفْظُ أَبِي عَامِرٍ عَنْ فُلَيْحِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أُمِّ الْمُنْذِرِ بِنْتِ قَيْسٍ الأَنْصَارِيَّةِ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ وَعَلِيٌّ نَاقِهٌ وَلَنَا دَوَالِي مُعَلَّقَةٌ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا وَقَامَ عَلِيٌّ لِيَأْكُلَ فَطَفِقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ مَهْ إِنَّكَ نَاقِهٌ حَتَّى كَفَّ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ قَالَتْ وَصَنَعْتُ شَعِيرًا وَسِلْقًا فَجِئْتُ بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا عَلِيُّ أَصِبْ مِنْ هَذَا فَهُوَ أَنْفَعُ لَكَ  

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me, while ʿAli was with him, and we had a cluster of unripe dates hanging." She said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began eating, and ʿAli ate with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to ʿAli: 'Stop, stop, for you are still recovering.' So ʿAli sat and the Prophet ﷺ ate." She said: "I made some chard and barley for them, so the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O ʿAli eat from this, for indeed it will be more suitable for you." Another chain reports a similar narration.  

دَخَلَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَلَنَا دَوَالٍ مُعَلَّقَةٌ قَالَتْ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ وَعَلِيٌّ مَعَهُ يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِعَلِيٍّ مَهْ مَهْ يَا عَلِيُّ فَإِنَّكَ نَاقِهٌ قَالَ فَجَلَسَ عَلِيٌّ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ قَالَتْ فَجَعَلْتُ لَهُمْ سِلْقًا وَشَعِيرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَا عَلِيُّ مِنْ هَذَا فَأَصِبْ فَإِنَّهُ أَوْفَقُ لَكَ  

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us, and with him was ‘Ali bin Abu Talib, who had recently recovered from an illness. We had bunches of unripe dates hanging up, and the Prophet ﷺ was eating from them. ‘Ali reached out to eat some, and the Prophet ﷺ said to ‘Ali: ‘Stop, O ‘Ali! You have just recovered from an illness.’ I made some greens and barley for the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said to ‘Ali: ‘O ‘Ali, eat some of this, for it is better for you.’”  

دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَعَلِيٌّ نَاقِهٌ مِنْ مَرَضٍ وَلَنَا دَوَالِي مُعَلَّقَةٌ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا فَتَنَاوَلَ عَلِيٌّ لِيَأْكُلَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَهْ يَا عَلِيُّ إِنَّكَ نَاقِهٌ قَالَتْ فَصَنَعْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ سِلْقًا وَشَعِيرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَا عَلِيُّ مِنْ هَذَا فَأَصِبْ فَإِنَّهُ أَنْفَعُ لَكَ  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ entered upon me with Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Ali had a camel suffering from illness. I said, "We have some dates hanging, so the Prophet ﷺ and Ali got up to eat from them." The Prophet ﷺ coughed and said, "Wait, for you are a camel until Ali finishes." I said, "I have already prepared barley and boiled it." When we brought it, the Prophet ﷺ said to Ali, "Try this, as it might suit you better." So they both ate from it.  

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَعَلِيٌّ نَاقِهٌ مِنْ مَرَضٍ قَالَتْ وَلَنَا دَوَالٍ مُعَلَّقَةٌ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَعَلِيٌّ يَأْكُلَانِ مِنْهَا فَطَفِقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَهْلًا فَإِنَّكَ نَاقِهٌ حَتَّى كَفَّ عَلِيٌّ قَالَتْ وَقَدْ صَنَعْتُ شَعِيرًا وَسِلْقًا فَلَمَّا جِئْنَا بِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِعَلِيٍّ مِنْ هَذَا أَصِبْ فَهُوَ أَوْفَقُ لَكَ فَأَكَلَا ذَلِكَ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me along with Ali, and he was riding a she-camel. I said to him, "We have some dates hanging up." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ got up and ate, and then Ali got up and ate. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Slow down, Ali, for you are a she-camel." So Ali sat down and then I prepared for them some roasted meat and barley. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Now, Ali, you will improve from this."  

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَهُوَ نَاقِهٌ قَالَتْ وَلَنَا دَوَالِي مُعَلَّقَةٌ قَالَتْ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَكَلَ وَقَامَ عَلِيٌّ فَأَكَلَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَهْلًا يَا عَلِيُّ فَإِنَّكَ نَاقِهٌ» فَجَلَسَ عَلِيٌّ ثُمَّ صَنَعْتُ لَهُمْ سِلْقًا وَشَعِيرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مِنْ هَذَا أَصِبِ الْآنَ يَا عَلِيُّ»  

[Machine] The Prophet, ﷺ , entered upon me, and Ali was with him, riding a camel. I said, "We have some hanging dates." The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , stood up and started eating, and Ali also started eating. Then the Prophet, ﷺ , said, "Hold on, for you are riding a camel." Ali sat down and the Prophet, ﷺ , ate from it. Then I made them a dish of boiled barley and corn. The Prophet, ﷺ , said, "May you be rewarded for this."  

دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَهُوَ نَاقِهٌ قَالَتْ وَلَنَا دَوَالِي مُعَلَّقَةٌ قَالَتْ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْكُلُ وَقَامَ عَلِيُّ يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَهْلًا فَإِنَّكَ نَاقِهٌ قَالَتْ فَجَلَسَ عَلِيٌّ فَأَكَلَ مِنْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ ثُمَّ جَعَلْتُ لَهُمِ سِلْقًا وَشَعِيرًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مِنْ هَذَا أَصِبْ»  

[Machine] Um Al-Mundhir Al-Ansariyah, who was one of the maternal aunts of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, reported that Ali entered while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was present, and Ali had a sick camel with him. In the house, there was a hanging morsel, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ate from it while standing, and Ali was with him. Then he said, "Do not eat from this, as it does not agree with you." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat down, and I prepared for him a dish of boiled vegetables and barley. He said, "Eat from this, as it agrees with you."  

عَنْ أُمِّ الْمُنْذِرِ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ وَكَانَتْ إِحْدَى خَالَاتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ دَخَلَ عَلِيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ عَلِيٌّ وَعَلِيٌّ نَاقِهٌ مِنْ مَرِضٍ وَفِي الْبَيْتِ عِذْقٌ مُعَلَّقٌ فَأَكَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ وَعَلِيٌّ مَعَهُ فَقَالَ «لَا تَأْكُلْ مِنْ ذَا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يُوَافِقُكَ» فَجَلَسَ فَصَنَعْتُ لَهُ سِلْقًا وَشَعِيرًا فَقَالَ «كُلْ مِنْ هَذَا فَإِنَّهُ أَوْفَقُ لَكَ»
