Al-Mughira bin Shuʿba, said, "The Prophet ﷺ went out to answer the call of nature and (when he had finished) I got up to pour water for him." I think that he said that the event had taken place during the Ghazwa of Tabuk. Al-Mughira added. "The Prophet ﷺ washed his face, and when he wanted to wash his forearms, the sleeves of his cloak became tight over them, so he took them out from underneath the cloak and then he washed them (i.e. his forearms) and passed wet hands over his Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather)."

ذَهَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِهِ فَقُمْتُ أَسْكُبُ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ لاَ أَعْلَمُهُ إِلاَّ قَالَ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَذَهَبَ يَغْسِلُ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَ عَلَيْهِ كُمُّ الْجُبَّةِ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ تَحْتِ جُبَّتِهِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ

I was in the company of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when he said: Mughira take hold of this jar (of water). I took hold of it and I went out with him. (I stopped but) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded on till he was out of my sight. He relieved himself and then came back and he was wearing a tight-sleeved Syrian gown. He tried to get his forearms out. but the sleeve of the gown was very narrow, so he brought his hands out from under the gown. I poured water over (his hands) and he performed ablution for prayer, then wiped over his socks and prayed.

كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَالَ يَا مُغِيرَةُ خُذِ الإِدَاوَةَ فَأَخَذْتُهَا ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى تَوَارَى عَنِّي فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ فَذَهَبَ يُخْرِجُ يَدَهُ مِنْ كُمِّهَا فَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ أَسْفَلِهَا فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out for relieving himself. When he came back I brought for him a jar (of water) and poured water upon his hands and He washed his face. He tried to wash his forearms, but as the (sleeves of the) gown were tight. He, therefore, brought them out from under the gown. He then washed them, wiped his head, and wiped his socks and then prayed.

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِيَقْضِيَ حَاجَتَهُ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ تَلَقَّيْتُهُ بِالإِدَاوَةِ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ لِيَغْسِلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَتِ الْجُبَّةُ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا وَمَسَحَ رَأْسَهُ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا

"The Prophet ﷺ went out to relieve himself, and when he came back, I met him with a vessel (of water). I poured some for him and he washed his hands, then he washed his face. Then he wanted to wash his forearms but his Jubbah was too tight, so he brought them out from beneath the Jubbah to wash them, and he wiped over his Khuffs, then he led us in prayer."

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ تَلَقَّيْتُهُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ لِيَغْسِلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَتْ بِهِ الْجُبَّةُ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا

"I was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and he said: 'Stay back O Mughirah! Go ahead, O people!' So I went back, and I had with me a vessel of water. The people went ahead, and there the Messenger of Allah ﷺ relieved himself. when he came back I went and poured water for him. He was wearing a Roman Jubbah with narrow sleeves, and he wanted to expose his hands (to wash them) but the sleeves were too tight, so he brought his hands out from beneath the Jubbah and washed his head, and wiped over his Khuffs."

كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَالَ تَخَلَّفْ يَا مُغِيرَةُ وَامْضُوا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ فَتَخَلَّفْتُ وَمَعِي إِدَاوَةٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ وَمَضَى النَّاسُ فَذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ ذَهَبْتُ أَصُبُّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ رُومِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُخْرِجَ يَدَهُ مِنْهَا فَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ

"The Prophet went out to relieve himself and when he came back, I met him with a water skin and poured water for him. He washed his hands and his face, then he went to wash his forearms but his garment was too tight, so he brought his arms out from underneath his garment and washed them, then he wiped over his leather socks, then he led us in prayer."

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِبَعْضِ حَاجَتِهِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ تَلَقَّيْتُهُ بِالإِدَاوَةِ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ غَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يَغْسِلُ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَتِ الْجُبَّةُ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بِنَا

[AI] I was with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and he said to me, "O Mugheerah, take the water container." So I took it. He then departed and walked ahead of me until he disappeared from my sight. He fulfilled his need and then came back, wearing a narrow-sleeved Syrian cloak. He tried to take out his hands from it, but they got stuck. He then took out his hands from the bottom of the cloak, and I poured water over them. He performed ablution for prayer, wiped over his socks, and then prayed.

كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَالَ لِي يَا مُغِيرَةُ خُذِ الْإِدَاوَةَ قَالَ فَأَخَذْتُهَا قَالَ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى تَوَارَى عَنِّي فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ جَاءَ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ شَامِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ قَالَ فَذَهَبَ يُخْرِجُ يَدَيْهِ مِنْهَا فَضَاقَتَا فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الْجُبَّةِ فَصَبَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى

[AI] He poured water onto the Messenger of Allah's face then went to wash his arms. The sleeves of his garment became too tight on his arms, so he took them out from under the cloak and they were made of wool. He washed them and wiped over his sandals.

أَنَّهُ سَكَبَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ إِنَائِهِ «فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يَغْسِلُ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَ كُمَّاهُ عَنْ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ وَكَانَتْ مِنْ صُوفٍ ثُمَّ» غَسَلَهُمَا وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ

[AI] I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, he said, "Stay behind, O Mugheerah, and go ahead, O people." He then left and fulfilled his needs, and I came to him with water for him to perform ablution. When he finished, I poured some of it on his hand and he washed his face. Then he took out his hands from his sleeve which were covered with a Roman cloak, and he found that they were tight. He took out his hands from under the cloak and washed them. Then he wiped over his socks and prayed.

كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَقَالَ «تَخَلَّفْ يَا مُغِيرَةُ وَامْضُوا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ» قَالَ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ وَأَتَيْتُهُ بِإِدَاوَةٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ سَكَبْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْهَا فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يُخْرِجُ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ جُبَّةٍ عَلَيْهِ رُومِيَّةٍ فَضَاقَ كُمَّا الْجُبَّةِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَهُمَا ثُمَّ مَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to fulfill his need, so I stood up and poured water on his hands from a container during the Tabuk expedition. Then he washed his face and went to wash his forearms. They became tight for him like the sleeve of a garment, so he pulled them out from the bottom and washed them. Then he wiped over his feet.
