The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you see a funeral procession, you should stand up, and whoever accompanies it should not sit till the coffin is put down."

عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا فَمَنْ تَبِعَهَا فَلاَ يَقْعُدْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

When you follow a bier, do not sit until it is placed on the (ground).

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا اتَّبَعْتُمْ جَنَازَةً فَلاَ تَجْلِسُوا حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

Whenever you come across a bier you should stand up, and he who follows it should not sit down till it is placed on the ground.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا فَمَنْ تَبِعَهَا فَلاَ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who washes the dead should take a bath, and he who carries him should perform ablution.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ مَنْ غَسَّلَ الْمَيِّتَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ وَمَنْ حَمَلَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: When you follow a funeral, do not sit until the bier is placed (on the ground). Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by al-Thawri (i.e. Sufyan) from Suhail, from his father on the authority of Abu Hurairah. This version has: until it (the bier) is placed on the ground. It has also been narrated by Abu Mu'wiyah from Suhail. This has: Until it is placed in the grave. Abu Dawud said: Sufyan's version is more guarded than that of Abu Mu'awiyah.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا تَبِعْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَلاَ تَجْلِسُوا حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

The Messenger of Allah said: "Whenever you see a funeral (procession), stand up (for it). Whoever follows it, then do not sit down until it is put down."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا لَهَا فَمَنْ تَبِعَهَا فَلاَ يَقْعُدَنَّ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

"When a funeral passes by you, stand up, and whoever follows it, let him not sit down until it is put down (in the grave)."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا مَرَّتْ بِكُمْ جَنَازَةٌ فَقُومُوا فَمَنْ تَبِعَهَا فَلاَ يَقْعُدْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'When you see a funeral, stand up, and whoever follows it, let him not sit down until (the body) is placed (in the grave)."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا فَمَنْ تَبِعَهَا فَلاَ يَقْعُدْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Anyone of you attending the Friday (prayers) should take a bath." (Using translation from Bukhārī 877)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to not sit down until the funeral was placed.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمُ الْجِنَازَةَ فَلْيَقُمْ حَتَّى تُخَلِّفَهُ أَوْ تُوضَعَ

"When you see a funeral, stand up until it has passed you, or (the body) is placed (in the grave)." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1916)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجِنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا لَهَا حَتَّى تُخَلِّفَكُمْ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "If anyone of you enters a Mosque, he should not sit until he has offered a tworakʿ at prayer." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1167)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا دَخَلَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَا يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

[AI] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was accompanying a funeral, he would not sit down until the deceased was lifted up or placed down."

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ الْجِنَازَةِ لَمْ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى يُرْفَعَ أَوْ يُوضَعَ»

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who washes the dead should take a bath, and he who carries him should perform ablution. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3161)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «مَنْ غَسَّلَ مَيِّتًا فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ وَمَنْ حَمَلَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ»

The Prophet ﷺ as saying: When you see a funeral, stand up for it till it leaves you behind or it is placed (on the ground). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3172)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا حَتَّى تُخَلِّفَكُمْ أَوْ تُوضَعَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you follows a funeral procession, they should not sit down until the deceased is laid down."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا تَبِعَ أَحَدُكُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَلَا يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to not sit when he was with a funeral procession until the deceased was placed in the grave or buried. Abu Muawiya had doubts about this.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ الْجَنَازَةِ لَمْ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ فِي اللَّحْدِ أَوْ تُدْفَنَ» شَكَّ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ *

[AI] "When the Messenger of Allahﷺ used to be with a funeral, he would not sit until it was placed in the grave or until it was buried." Abu Muawiyah doubted.

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ مَعَ الْجَنَازَةِ لَمْ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ فِي اللَّحْدِ أَوْ حَتَّى تُدْفَنَ» شَكَّ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'If any one of you sells a sheep or a milch- camel, let him not refrain from milking it.'' (Sahih ) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4486)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا بَاعَ أَحَدُكُمُ اللِّقْحَةَ أَوِ الشَّاةَ فَلَا يُحَفِّلْهَا»

قال من غسل ميتًا فليغتسل وَمَنْ حمله فليتوضأ وَمَنْ تبع جنازة فلا يجلس حتى توضع

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قال من غسل جنازة يعني ميتًا فليغتسل وَمَنْ حملها فليتوضأ
