Then, the sea threw up a creature called al-‘Anbar, and we ate from it for half a month until our bodies became healthy. Abu Ubaidah took a rib from his own ribs, set it up, and looked at the longest camel. It passed under it, and there was a man who crossed three islands, and then three islands, and then three islands. Abu Ubaidah forbade him from doing so.

He said, 'Indeed, this is something that Allah has ordained for the daughters of Adam. So purify yourself and prepare for Hajj.' She said, 'I did that, and when I purified myself, he said, 'Circumambulate the Kaaba between Safa and Marwa, then you may be released from your Hajj and Umrah obligations.' She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I feel inside me that I did not complete my Umrah before performing Hajj.' He said, 'Then go, O Abdur Rahman, and perform Umrah on her behalf with the best of provision.'"

[Machine] We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey until we reached a wall made by Bani Najjar. There was a camel in it that no one could enter except with difficulty. They informed the Prophet ﷺ about it, so he came until he reached the wall. He called the camel and it came, stooping down and putting its snout on the ground until it urinated in front of him. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Bring its reins." He took the reins and handed it over to its owner. Then he turned to the people and said, "There is nothing between the heavens and the earth except that it knows that I am the Messenger of Allah, except for disobedient jinn and humans."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, may ﷺ , delivered a sermon in which he praised and glorified Allah for His qualities and attributes. Then he said, "The most truthful of all speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of all matters are newly invented ones, and every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is a misguidance." Then he raised his voice, his cheeks turned red, and his anger intensified when he mentioned the Hour (i.e. the Day of Judgment), as if he were warning of an approaching army. He said, "Has the Hour come upon you? I have been sent and the Hour are like these." He pointed with his index and middle fingers. He continued, saying, "The Hour has come upon you in the morning and in the evening. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it will go to his family, and whoever leaves behind debt or dependents, it is upon me and upon the Muslims to take care of them. And when he said 'dependents,' he meant his children."

[Machine] I found this hadith in my father's book, and I heard it in another place. Abu al-Yaman told us, Shuayb informed me, from al-Zuhri, who narrated from Sinan ibn Abi Sinan al-Dawli and Abu Salama ibn Abdul Rahman, that Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ , reported that he had participated in a battle with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before reaching Najd. When the Prophet ﷺ stopped, they were surrounded by a thunderstorm one day in a densely wooded valley. The Prophet ﷺ descended and the people dispersed in the dense forest seeking shade under the trees. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended and sought shade under a tree, and he hung his sword on it. Jabir said that they took a nap under the tree, and then the Prophet ﷺ called us and we came to him. There was a Bedouin sitting next to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This man took my sword and I was sleeping." So I woke up, and he had the sword in his hand. He asked me, "Who will stop you from me?" I said, "Allah." He asked again, "Who will stop you from me?" I said, "Allah." Then he returned the sword and sat down, and the Prophet ﷺ did not punish him for that, even though he had done such a thing.

We would suck on the dates and drink water over them until nightfall. Then, we would finish what was in the bag and suffer from extreme hunger. Suddenly, the sea threw a dead whale at us. Abu 'Ubaidah said, "It is for the warriors and the hungry, so eat." So we ate. Abu 'Ubaidah would prop up one of his ribs from his side, and the rider would pass under it while his five companions would sit in the same spot. We ate from it and rubbed it on ourselves until our bodies were restored and our skins became healthy. When we arrived in Madinah, Jabir mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "This provision was brought forth by Allah for you. If you still have some, feed it to us." He said, "We still had some left, so he sent some of it to him."

Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) sent us (on an expedition) and appointed Abu 'Ubaida our chief that we might intercept a caravan of the Quraish and provided us with a bag of dates. And he found for us nothing besides it. Abu Ubaida gave each of us one date (everyday). I (Abu Zubair, one of the narrators) said: What did you do with that? He said: We sucked that just as a baby sucks and then drank water over that, and it sufficed us for the day until night. We beat off leaves with the help of our staffs, then drenched them with water and ate them. We then went to the coast of the sea, and there rose before us on the coast of the sea something like a big mound. We came near that and we found that it was a beast, called al-'Anbar (spermaceti whale). Abu 'Ubaida said. It is dead. He then said: No (but it does not matter), we have been sent by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the path of Allah and you are hard pressed (on account of the scarcity of food), so you eat that. We three hundred in number stayed there for a month, until we grew bulky. He (Jabir) said: I saw how we extracted pitcher after pitcher full of fat from the cavity of its eye, and sliced from it compact piece of meat equal to a bull or like a bull. Abu 'Ubaida called forth thirteen men from us and he made them sit in the cavity of its eye, and he took hold of one of the ribs of its chest and made it stand and then saddled the biggest of the camels we had with us and it passed under it (the arched rib), and we provided ourselves with pieces of boiled meat (especially for use in our journey). When we came back to Medina, we went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and made a mention of that to him, whereupon he said: That was a provision which Allah had brought forth for you. Is there any piece of meat (left) with you, so tnat you give to us that? He (Jabir) said: We sent to Messenger of Allah ﷺ tome of that (a piece of meat) and he ate it.
