Messenger of Allah, I have relatives with whom I try, to have close relationship, but they sever (this relation). I treat them well, but they treat me ill. I am sweet to them but they are harsh towards me. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) said: If it is so as you say, then you in fact throw hot ashes (upon their faces) and there would always remain with you on behalf of Allah (an Angel to support you) who would keep you dominant over them so long as you adhere to this (path of righteousness). [Machine] When the verse "{To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Whether you disclose what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it. Then He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent}" [Al-Baqarah 284] was revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , it became a burden on his companions. They went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and sat on their knees, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, we have been burdened with acts of worship that we cannot bear. Prayer, fasting, Jihad, and giving charity have been revealed to you, and we cannot bear them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Do you want to say what the previous people of the two Scriptures said? 'We hear and we disobey'? Rather, say: 'We hear and we obey, forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the destination.'" They said, "We hear and we obey, forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the destination." When the people said it, Allah revealed the verse "{The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], 'We make no distinction between any of His messengers'}" [Al-Baqarah 285]. 'Affaan recited it as "Salaamun Abu Al-Mundhir, who differentiates." So Allah revealed the verse "{But they say, 'We hear and we disobey.' And their saying is not right. But rather, Allah has cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few}" [Al-Baqarah 285]. When they did that, Allah abrogated it with His saying "{Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns}" [Al-Baqarah 286]. (For them) it was recorded what is good and bad. The high Thaat was explained as "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error" [Al-Baqarah 286], and Allah replied: "Yes" (accepted their invocation). They said, "Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us" [Al-Baqarah 286], Allah replied: "Yes" (accepted their invocation). They said, "Our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear" [Al-Baqarah 286], Allah replied: "Yes" (accepted their invocation). They said, "Pardon us and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Mawla (Patron, Supporer and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people" [Al-Baqarah 286].

And he was performing Salat, so Ubayy turned around but he did not respond to him, so Ubayy finished his Salat quickly. Then he turned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'As-Salamu 'Alaikum, O Messenger of Allah!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Wa 'Alaikum As-Salam - what prevented you from responding to me when I called you Ubayy?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah! I was performing Salat.' So he said: 'Do you not find among what Allah revealed to me: Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when they call you to what gives you life?' He said: 'Of course, I shall not repeat that, if Allah wills.' He said: 'Would you like for me to teach you a Surah the likes of which has neither been revealed in the Tawrah, nor the Injil, nor the Zabur, nor in the entire Qur'an?' He said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'What do you recite in your Salat?' He said: 'I recite Umm Al-Qur'an.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! The like of it has neither been revealed in the Tawrah, nor the Injil nor the Zabur, nor in the Furqan.
