A man came while the Prophet ﷺ was leading the people in the dawn prayer. He prayed the two rak'ahs and then joined the congregational prayer led by the Prophet ﷺ. When he finished the prayer, the Prophet ﷺ said: So-and-so, which was your real prayer, the one you prayed alone or the one offered with us ?  

أبو داود:١٢٦٥ – حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ قَالَ

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ فَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ يَا فُلاَنُ أَيَّتُهُمَا صَلاَتُكَ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ وَحْدَكَ أَوِ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا

[Machine] The Fajr prayer was being performed and the Messenger of Allah saw a man praying two units of Fajr. He asked him, "Which of your prayers did you intend with your prayer? Was it your prayer alone or the prayer that you prayed with us?"  

أحمد:٢٠٧٧٧ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ قَالَ

أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ صَلَاةُ الصُّبْحِ فَرَأَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيِ الْفَجْرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ بِأَيِّ صَلَاتَيْكَ احْتَسَبْتَ بِصَلَاتِكَ وَحْدَكَ أَوْ صَلَاتِكَ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟

[Machine] A man entered the mosque after the prayer was performed, and the Prophet ﷺ was still praying, so he prayed two units of prayer and then joined the row. When the Prophet ﷺ finished, he said, "Which of the two did you intend or count for? The one you prayed with us or the one you prayed alone?"  

ابن حبّان:٢١٩١ – أَخْبَرَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ الْقَزَّازُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْجُمَحِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ بَعْدَمَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُصَلِّي فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ الصَّفَّ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَالَ «بِأَيَّتِهِمَا اعْتَدَدْتَ أَوْ بِأَيَّتِهِمَا احْتَسَبْتَ؟ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا أَوِ الَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ وَحْدَكَ؟ »

البيهقي:٤٥٤٤ – أنبأ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمُزَكِّي ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا حَامِدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ ثنا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ قَالَ

دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ الْمَسْجِدَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَصِلَ إِلَى الصَّفِّ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ يَا فُلَانُ بِأِيِّ صَلَاتَيْكَ اعْتَدَدْتَ بِالَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ وَحْدَكَ أَوْ بِالَّتِي صَلَّيْتَ مَعَنَا؟
