"Sahl bin Abi Hathmah came to a gathering of ours, and he narrated that the Messenger of Allah would say: "When you make an assessment, then take it and leave a third, if you do not leave a third, then leave a quarter."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ وَعَتَّابِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ
"Sahl bin Abi Hathmah came to us when we were in the market and said: "The Messenger of Allah said: When you have estimated, take two-thirds (of the portion you have estimated as Zakah) and leave one-third, and if you do not take (two-thirds) or leave one-third. (One of the reporters) Shu 'bah doubted - leave one quarter."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَأْخُذُوا أَوْ تَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ
Sahl ibn Abu Hathmah came to our gathering. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding us said: When you estimate take them leaving a third, and if you do not leave or find a third, leave a quarter.
أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَدَعُوا أَوْ تَجِدُوا الثُّلُثَ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ

رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا دَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَدَعُوا أَوْ تَجُدُّوا شُعْبَةُ الشَّاكُّ الثُّلُثَ أَوِ الرُّبُعَ
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said: "When you wash (while performing ablution), take (use) the toothstick (miswak) and leave a third (of the mouth unwashed). But if you do not use the toothstick, then leave a quarter (of the mouth unwashed)."
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا دَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ»

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَأْخُذُوا أَوْ تَدَعُو الثُّلُثَ شَكَّ شُعْبَةُ فِي الثُّلُثِ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ»
[Machine] Narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When you throw arrows for decision, take one-third and leave two-thirds. If you are not satisfied with one-third, then take one-fourth."
فَحَدَّثَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا خَرَصْتُمْ فَخُذُوا وَدَعُوا الثُّلُثَ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَدْعُوا الثُّلُثْ فَدَعُوا الرُّبُعَ»
Sahl ibn Abu Hathmah came to our gathering. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanding us said: When you estimate take them leaving a third, and if you do not leave or find a third, leave a quarter. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1605)
