"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us with two books in hand. And he said: 'Do you know what these two books are?' We said: 'No, O Messenger of Allah ! Unless you inform us.' He said about the one that was in his right hand: 'This is a book from the Lord of the worlds, in it are the names of the people of Paradise, and the name of their fathers and their tribes. Then there is a summary at the end of them, there being no addition to them nor deduction from them forever.' Then he said about the one that was in his left: 'This is a book from the Lord of the worlds, in it are the names of the people of Fire, and the name of their fathers and their tribes. Then there is a summary at the end of them, there being no addition to them nor deduction from them forever.' The companions said: 'So why work O Messenger of Allah! Since the matter is already decided (and over)?' He said: 'Seek to do what is right and draw nearer, for indeed the inhabitant of Paradise, shall have his work sealed off with the deeds of the people of Paradise, whichever deeds he did. And indeed the inhabitant of Fire, shall have his work sealed off with the deeds of the people of Fire, whichever deeds he did.' Then the Messenger of Allah motioned with his hands, casting them down and said: 'Your Lord finished with the slaves, a group in Paradise, and a group in the Blazing Fire.'" Another chain reports a similar narration.

[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us holding two books in his hand and said, "Do you know what these two books are?" We said, "No, unless you inform us, O messenger of Allah." He said, "This is the book of the Lord of the worlds, it contains the names of the people of Paradise, their fathers' names, and their tribes. Then it will be perfected with the names of their last ones, and nothing will be added to or subtracted from them ever. And this is the book of the people of Hell, with their names, their fathers' names, and their tribes. Then it will be perfected with the names of their last ones, and nothing will be added to or subtracted from them ever." The companions of the messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "What is the use of any deeds if this matter has already been decided?" The messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Rather, do good deeds and strive, for the deeds of the people of Paradise will be sealed for them with the deeds of Paradise, even if they had performed any other deed, and the deeds of the people of Hell will be sealed for them with the deeds of the people of Hell, even if they had performed any other deed. Your Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, has concluded their matter." Then the messenger of Allah, ﷺ , threw the two books with his hands and said, "Your Lord has concluded the matter of His creation: a group will be in Paradise and a group will be in the Blaze."

And this is a book that Allah, the Lord of all worlds, has written. It contains the names of the people of Hell and the names of their fathers, ending with the worst among them. Their names cannot be increased or decreased." They asked, "So what is the role, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Indeed, the one who acts in accordance with the actions of the people of Paradise, his seal will be that of Paradise, even if he does any other deed. And indeed, the one who acts in accordance with the actions of the people of Hell, his seal will be that of Hell, even if he does any other deed." Allah has completed His creation, as He said, "A group will be in Paradise and a group will be in the Blaze." [Surah Ash-Shura, 7]
