Allah puts his servants through in this world to cleanse them before their final accounting

tirmidhi:2396Qutaybah > al-Layth > Yazīd b. Abū Ḥabīb > Saʿd b. Sinān > Anas

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When Allah intends good for His servant, He hastens punishment for him in this world; and when He intends evil for His servant, He withholds it from him for his sin until he is made to fully meet it on the Day of Resurrection.”

With this chain of narration, from the Prophet ﷺ he said: “Indeed, the greatness of the reward comes with the greatness of the trial. And indeed, when Allah loves a people, He tests them: whoever is satisfied will have satisfaction, and whoever is displeased will have displeasure.”

Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Gharīb in this particular context.

tirmidhi:2398Qutaybah > Ḥammād b. Zayd > ʿĀṣim b. Bahdalah > Muṣʿab b. Saʿd from his father

"O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Which of the people is tried most severely?" He said: "The Prophets, then those nearest to them, then those nearest to them. A man is tried according to his religion; if he is firm in his religion, then his trials are more severe, and if he is frail in his religion, then he is tried according to the strength of his religion. The servant shall continue to be tried until he is left walking upon the earth without any sins."
