A woman came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I present myself (to you) (for marriage). She stayed for a long while, then a man said, "If you are not in need of her then marry her to me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Have you got anything m order to pay her Mahr?" He said, "I have nothing with me except my Izar (waist sheet)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you give her your Izar, you will have no Izar to wear, (so go) and search for something. He said, "I could not find anything." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Try (to find something), even if it were an iron ring But he was not able to find (even that) The Prophet ﷺ said (to him). "Do you memorize something of the Qur'an?" "Yes. ' he said, "such Sura and such Sura," naming those Suras The Prophet ﷺ said, "We have married her to you for what you know of the Qur'an (by heart).

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي وَهَبْتُ مِنْ نَفْسِي فَقَامَتْ طَوِيلاً فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ قَالَ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا قَالَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلاَّ إِزَارِي فَقَالَ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِيَّاهُ جَلَسْتَ لاَ إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ مَا أَجِدُ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ الْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدِ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ فَقَالَ أَمَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَىْءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ سَمَّاهَا فَقَالَ زَوَّجْنَاكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I have come to present myself to you (for marriage)." She kept standing for a long period during which period the Prophet ﷺ looked at her carefully. When she stayed for a Long period, a man said to the Prophet ﷺ "If you are not in need of her, then marry her to me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Have you got anything to give her (as Mahr)?" The man said, "No." The Prophet said, "Go (to your house) and search for something." The man went and came back to say, "By Allah, I could not find anything." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Go again and search for something, even if it be an iron ring." He went again and came back saying, "No, by Allah, I could not get even an iron ring." The man had only an Izar and had no Rida' (upper garment). He said, "I will give her my Izar as Mahr." On that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Your Izar? If she wears it, nothing of it will remain on you, and if you wear it nothing of it will be on her" The man went aside and sat down When the Prophet ﷺ saw him leaving (after a while), he called back and asked. "How much Qur'an do you know (by heart)? He said, 'I know such and such Suras," naming some Suras. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I marry her to you for the amount of Qur'an you know (by heart).

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلاً يَقُولُ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ جِئْتُ أَهَبُ نَفْسِي فَقَامَتْ طَوِيلاً فَنَظَرَ وَصَوَّبَ فَلَمَّا طَالَ مُقَامُهَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ قَالَ عِنْدَكَ شَىْءٌ تُصْدِقُهَا قَالَ لاَ قَالَ انْظُرْ فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ إِنْ وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ قَالَ لاَ وَاللَّهِ وَلاَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ وَعَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ مَا عَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ فَقَالَ أُصْدِقُهَا إِزَارِي فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِزَارُكَ إِنْ لَبِسَتْهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْهُ شَىْءٌ وَإِنْ لَبِسْتَهُ لَمَ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهَا مِنْهُ شَىْءٌ فَتَنَحَّى الرَّجُلُ فَجَلَسَ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مُوَلِّيًا فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَدُعِيَ فَقَالَ مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا لِسُوَرٍ عَدَّدَهَا قَالَ قَدْ مَلَّكْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, I have offered myself to you. When she stood for a long time, a man got up and said: Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need for her. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked: Have you anything to give her as dower ? He replied: I have nothing by this lower garment of mine. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If you give your lower garment, you will sit while you have no lower garment. So look for something else. He said: I do not find anything. He said: Look for something, even though it should be an iron ring. The man sought it but found nothing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do you know anything from the Qur'an ? He said: Yes, I know surah so and so, which he named. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I have given you her in marriage for the part of the Qur'an which you know.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَقَامَتْ قِيَامًا طَوِيلاً فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَىْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا إِيَّاهُ فَقَالَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلاَّ إِزَارِي هَذَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّكَ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِزَارَكَ جَلَسْتَ وَلاَ إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا قَالَ لاَ أَجِدُ شَيْئًا قَالَ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَهَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَىْءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ سَمَّاهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "I present myself to you (for marriage)." So she stood for a long time. Then a man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Marry her to me if you have no need of her." So he said: "Do you have anything to give her as a dowry?" He said: "I have nothing except this Izar." He said: "Search for something, even if it just an iron ring." He said: So he searched but he did not find anything. The Messenger of Allah said: "Do you have any Qur'an (memorized)?" He said: "Yes. This Surat and that Surat." And he named the Surat. So the Messenger of Allah said: "I marry her to you for what you have (memorized) of the Qur'an."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَقَامَتْ طَوِيلاً فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا فَقَالَ مَا عِنْدِي إِلاَّ إِزَارِي هَذَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِزَارَكَ إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا جَلَسْتَ وَلاَ إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا قَالَ مَا أَجِدُ قَالَ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ سَمَّاهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

"I was among the people with the Prophet when a woman stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself in marriage to you, so see what you think of her.' He remained silent and the Prophet did not give any answer. Then she stood up (again) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself in marriage to you, so see what you think of her.' A man stood up and said: 'Marry her to me, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Do you have anything?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Go and look, even if it is just an iron ring.' So he went and looked then he came and said: 'I could not find anything, not even an iron ring.' He said: 'Have you memorized anything of the Qur'an?' He said: 'Yes, Surah such-and-such and Surah such-and-such.' He said: 'I will marry you to her on the basis of what you have memorized of the Qur'an.'"

سَمِعْتُ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ إِنِّي لَفِي الْقَوْمِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا قَدْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَكَ فَرَأْ فِيهَا رَأْيَكَ فَسَكَتَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِشَىْءٍ ثُمَّ قَامَتْ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهَا قَدْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَكَ فَرَأْ فِيهَا رَأْيَكَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ زَوِّجْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَلْ مَعَكَ شَىْءٌ قَالَ لاَ قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَذَهَبَ فَطَلَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا وَلاَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَىْءٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ مَعِي سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا قَالَ قَدْ أَنْكَحْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

"O Messenger of Allah, I give myself in marriage to you." She stood for a long time, then a man stood up and said: "Marry her to me if you do not want to marry her." The Messenger of Allah said: "Do you have anything?" He said: "I cannot find anything." He said: "Look (for something), even if it is only an iron ring." So he looked but he could not find anything. The Messenger of Allah said to him: "Have you (memorized) anything of the Qur'an?" He said: "Yes, Surah such and such and Surah such and such," naming them. The Messenger of Allah said: "I marry her to you for what you know of the Qur'an."

[AI] "O Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself to you, so give your opinion about her." A man said, "Marry her to me." But the Prophet did not respond to him until the third time, then he asked, "Do you have anything to give as dowry?" The man replied, "No." The Prophet then said, "Go and try to find something, even if it is a ring made of iron." The man said, "I could not find a ring made of iron." The Prophet asked, "Do you have anything from the Quran with you?" The man said, "Yes, I have Surah so and so and Surah so and so." The Prophet then said, "I have married her to you based on what you have from the Quran."

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهَا قَدْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَكَ فَرَ فِيهَا رَأْيَكَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ زَوِّجْنِيهَا فَلَمْ يُجِبْهُ حَتَّى قَامَتِ الثَّالِثَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ لَا قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ قَالَ لَمْ أَجِدْ قَالَ فَاذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ مَا وَجَدْتُ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا قَالَ قَدْ أَنْكَحْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned a matter. He then asked her, "Do you read anything from the Qur'an?" She replied, "Yes." He asked her, "What do you read?" She replied, "Surah such and such, and Surah such and such, and Surah such and such." He said, "I have possessed you with what you have from the Qur'an." Then I saw him walking away, and she was following him.

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ فَهَلْ تَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ مَاذَا؟ قَالَ سُورَةَ كَذَا وَسُورَةَ كَذَا وَسُورَةَ كَذَا قَالَ فَقَدْ أَمْلَكْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَمْضِي وَهِيَ تَتْبَعُهُ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Malik from Abu Hazim ibn Dinar from Sahl ibn Sad as-Saidi that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah! I have given myself to you." She stood for a long time, and then a man got up and said, "Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need of her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you have anything to give her as a bride-price?" He said, "I possess only this lower garment of mine." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you give it to her you will not have a garment to wear so look for something else." He said, "I have nothing else." He said, "Look for something else, even if it is only an iron ring." He looked, and found that he had nothing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know any of the Qur'an?" He said, "Yes. I know such-and-such a sura and such-and-such a sura," which he named. The Messengerof Allah ﷺ said to him, "I have married her to you for what you know of the Qur'an."

He looked at her up and down and straightened himself. Then he remained silent. A man stood up who had nothing on him except for a single garment tied around his neck. He said, "If you don't need her, then marry her to me." The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have anything to give as a dowry?" He replied, "No." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then you must find something. Go and look for it." So he went and searched, but he found nothing. He returned and said, "I couldn't find anything." The Prophet ﷺ told him, "Go and search, even if it's just a ring made of iron." So he went and returned, saying, "I couldn't find even a ring made of iron." Then he sat down, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you have any part of the Quran with you?" He replied, "Surah such and such and Surah such and such." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have married her to you based on what you have of the Quran."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي جِئْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَهَبُ لَكَ نَفْسِي فَصَعَّدَ فِيهَا النَّظَرَ وَصَوَّبَهُ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مَا عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ عَاقِدٌ طَرَفَيْهِ عَلَى عُنُقَهِ فَقَالَ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ «أَعِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَلَا بُدَّ لَهَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ فَاذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ» فَذَهَبَ فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَرَجَعَ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ لَمْ أَجِدْهُ ثُمَّ جَلَسَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟» فَقَالَ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا فَقَالَ «قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

[AI] He heard Sahl bin Sa'd say, "I was with the people by the Prophet's ﷺ when a woman came to him and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have donated myself to you, so see what you think.' A man stood up and said, 'Marry her to me, O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need for her.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent and then she stood up and said the same thing. The man said, 'Marry her to me, O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need for her.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the man, 'Do you have anything to give her?' He said, 'No.' He said, 'Then go and look for something.' So he went and came back saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, I found nothing.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Go and look for something, even if it is an iron ring.' So he went and came back saying, 'O Messenger of Allah, I found nothing, not even an iron ring.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do you have anything from the Quran?' He said, 'Yes, Surah such and such, and Surah such and such.' He said, 'Then go, for I have married her to you with what you have from the Quran.'"

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ كُنْتُ فِي الْقَوْمِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَتَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبَتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَرَأْ فِيَّ رَأْيَكَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ أَنْكِحْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَامَتْ فَقَالَتْ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَنْكِحْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِلرَّجُلِ «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ تُعْطِيهَا إِيَّاهُ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَاذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ شَيْئًا» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and offered herself to him, but he remained silent. She then presented herself to him again, and he remained silent. He said, "I saw her standing or leaning, offering herself to him while he remained silent." A man from the Ansar (helpers) stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need for her, then marry her to me." He said, "Do you have anything to offer?" The man said, "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then go and find something, even if it is just a ring made of iron." So the man went and then returned, saying, "By Allah, I did not find anything except for this garment of mine, which is the most precious thing I have between me and her." The Prophet ﷺ said, "There is no favor for you in your garment, so have you memorized anything from the Quran?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What?" The man mentioned a specific chapter. The Prophet ﷺ said, "You have indeed given her away with what you have from the Quran." Then, I saw him walking while she was following him.

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَوَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَهُ فَصَمَتَ ثُمَّ عَرَضَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَيْهِ فَصَمَتَ قَالَ فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهَا قَائِمَةً مَلِيًّا أَوْ هَوِيًّا تَعْرِضُ نَفْسَهَا عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ صَامِتٌ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ أَحْسَبُهُ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا فَقَالَ «أَلَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَاذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ وَاللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا غَيْرَ ثَوْبِي هَذَا أَشُقُّهُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَا فِي ثَوْبِكَ فَضْلٌ عَنْكَ فَهَلْ تَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْئًا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «مَاذَا؟» قَالَ سُورَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ «فَقَدْ مَلَّكْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ» قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَمْضِي وَهِيَ تَتْبَعُهُ

[AI] A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have dedicated myself to you and have observed fasting." The Prophet remained silent. Then, a man from the Ansar said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need for her, then marry her to me." The Prophet asked him, "Do you have anything to offer in return?" The man replied, "No, by Allah." The Prophet then asked, "Have you memorized any portion of the Quran?" The man answered, "Yes." The Prophet said, "Then I have married her to you in exchange for what you know of the Quran."

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَقَدْ وَهَبَتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَصَمَتَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا فَقَالَ «أَلَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ قَالَ «فَهَلْ تَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْئًا؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَقَدْ مَلَّكْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

[AI] A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to offer myself to you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at her, raised his gaze to her and straightened himself, then lowered his head. When the woman saw this, she realized that he did not have any interest in her, so she sat down. A man from his companions then stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need for her, then marry her to me." He asked, "Do you have anything to offer as a dowry?" He replied, "No." The Prophet asked, "What do you have from the Quran?" He said, "I have knowledge of this Surah and that Surah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then I have married her to you in exchange for what you have from the Quran."

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جِئْتُ لِأَهَبَ لَكَ نَفْسِي فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَعَّدَ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهَا وَصَوَّبَهُ ثُمَّ طَأْطَأَ رَأْسَهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَتْ ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ لَمْ يَقْضِ فِيهَا شَيْئًا جَلَسَتْ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَقَالَ أَيْ رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا قَالَ «أَلَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «فَمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟» قَالَ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا قَالَ «فَقَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, I have offered myself to you. He said: I do not find anything. He said: Look for something, even though it should be an iron ring. The man sought it but found nothing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do you know anything from the Qur'an ? He said: Yes, I know surah so and so, which he named. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I have given you her in marriage for the part of the Qur'an which you know. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2111)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ جَاءَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ وَهَبْتُ نَفْسِي لَكَ فَقَامَتْ قِيَامًا طَوِيلًا فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ زَوِّجْنِيهَا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ إِزَارِي هَذَا فقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ أَعْطَيْتَهَا إِيَّاهُ جَلَسْتَ لَا إِزَارَ لَكَ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا» قَالَ مَا أَجِدُ شَيْئًا قَالَ «الْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَالْتَمَسَ فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ سَمَّاهَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قَدْ زَوَّجْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

"I was among the people with the Prophet when a woman stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself in marriage to you, so see what you think of her.' He remained silent and the Prophet did not give any answer. Then she stood up (again) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, she has offered herself in marriage to you, so see what you think of her.' A man stood up and said: 'Marry her to me, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Do you have anything?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Go and look, even if it is just an iron ring.' So he went and looked then he came and said: 'I could not find anything, not even an iron ring.' He said: 'Have you memorized anything of the Qur'an?' He said: 'Yes, Surah such-and-such and Surah such-and-such.' He said: 'I will marry you to her on the basis of what you have memorized of the Qur'an.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3280)

سَمِعْتُ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ إِنِّي لَفِي الْقَوْمِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَامَتِ امْرَأَةٌ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهَا قَدْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَكَ فَرَ فِيهَا رَأْيَكَ فَسَكَتَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِشَيْءٍ ثُمَّ قَامَتْ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهَا قَدْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَكَ فَرَ فِيهَا رَأْيَكَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ زَوِّجْنِيهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «هَلْ مَعَكَ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ لَا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ شَيْئًا» فَذَهَبَ فَطَلَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ لَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَاطْلُبْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ فَطَلَبَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَجِدْ شَيْئًا وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ «هَلْ مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْءٌ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ مَعِي سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا قَالَ «قَدْ أَنْكَحْتُكَهَا عَلَى مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»

[AI] A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to give myself as a gift to you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at her, moved his gaze away from her, and corrected her. Then he lowered his head. When the woman saw that he did not show any interest in her, she sat down and they discussed a narration that had been reported by Qutaybah in Sahih.

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جِئْتُ لِأَهَبَ لَكَ نَفْسِي فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَصَعَّدَ النَّظَرَ إِلَيْهَا وَصَوَّبَهُ ثُمَّ طَأْطَأَ رَأْسَهُ فَلَمَّا رَأَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَقْضِ فِيهَا شَيْئًا جَلَسَتْ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ قُتَيْبَةَ

"عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً جَاءَتْ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ فَوَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لَهُ فَصَمَتَ، ثُمَّ عَرَضَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَيْهِ، فَصَمَتَ، فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهَا قَائِمَةً مَليّا تَعْرِضُ نَفْسَهَا علَيْهِ، وَهُوَ صَامِتٌ، فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ، أَحْسَبُهُ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ: يَارَسُولَ الله إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا، قَالَ: لَكَ شىْءٌ؟ قَالَ: لاَ وَالله يَارَسُولَ الله، قَالَ: اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدِ، فَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ: وَالله مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا غَيْرَ ثَوْبِى هَذَا اشْقُقْهُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَهَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ ، مَا فِى ثَوْبِكَ فَضْلًا (*) عَنْكَ، فَهَلْ تَقْرَأُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: مَاذَا؟ قَالَ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا، وَسُورَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا، قَالَ: فَقَدْ أَمْلَكْتُكَهَا بما مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، فَرَأيْتُهُ يَمْضِى وَهِىَ تَتْبَعُهُ".
