[Machine] I was accompanying the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when our camel stumbled, so I said, "May the devil be cursed!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say, 'May the devil be cursed,' for he becomes proud until he becomes as great as a house, and he says with pride, 'By my power.' Instead, say, 'In the name of Allah,' for he will become as small as a fly."

الطبراني:٥١٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ وَزَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى السَّاجِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ قَالُوا ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمْرَانَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أُسَامَةَ قَالَ

كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَثَرَ بَعِيرُنَا فَقُلْتُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّهُ يَعْظُمُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيَقُولَ بِقُوَّتِي قُلْ بِسْمِ اللهِ فَإِنَّهُ يَصِيرُ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ

I was riding on a mount behind the prophet (May peace be upon him). It stumbled. Thereupon I said: May the devil perish! He said: do not say; may the devil perish! For you say that, he will swell so much so that he will be like a house, and say: by my power. But say: in the name of Allah; for when you say that, he will diminish so much so that he will be like a fly.

أبو داود:٤٩٨٢ – حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ عَنْ خَالِدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ يَعْنِي الْحَذَّاءَ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَالَ

كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَعَثَرَتْ دَابَّتُهُ فَقُلْتُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ لاَ تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا قُلْتَ ذَلِكَ تَعَاظَمَ حَتَّى يَكُونَ مِثْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيَقُولَ بِقُوَّتِي وَلَكِنْ قُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا قُلْتَ ذَلِكَ تَصَاغَرَ حَتَّى يَكُونَ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ

[Machine] From the rank of the messenger of Allah ﷺ , it became clear that his mount stumbled. So he said, "May Satan be cursed." The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not say, 'May Satan be cursed,' for if you say, 'May Satan be cursed,' he becomes more arrogant. I seized him with my strength, and when the phrase 'In the name of Allah' is said, he becomes humiliated until he becomes like a fly."

الحاكم:٧٧٩٢ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثَنَا أَبُو الْمُثَنَّى ثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ

عَنْ رَدِيفِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ عَثَرَتْ بِهِ دَابَّتُهُ فَقَالَ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ قُلْتَ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ تَعَاظَمَ وَقَالَ بِقُوَّتِي صَرَعْتُهُ وَإِذَا قِيلَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَنَسَ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَرَدِيفُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الَّذِي لَمْ يُسَمِّهِ يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ عَنْ خَالِدٍ سَمَّاهُ غَيْرُهُ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ وَالِدَ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ صحيح

[Machine] "I was a companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and our camel stumbled. I said, 'May the Shaytan be cursed.' The Prophet ﷺ said to me, 'Do not curse the Shaytan, for he becomes arrogant and powerful when you do so, until he becomes the size of a housefly. Instead, say Bismillah (in the name of Allah). When you say Bismillah, he diminishes in size until he becomes like a tiny fly.'"

الحاكم:٧٧٩٣ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ الْقُرَشِيُّ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمْرَانَ ثَنَا خَالِدٌ الْحَذَّاءُ عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كُنْتُ رَدِيفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَعَثَرَ بَعِيرُنَا فَقُلْتُ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَقَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَا تَقُلْ تَعِسَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَإِنَّهُ يَسْتَعْظِمُ حَتَّى يَكُونَ مِثْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيَقْوَى وَلَكِنْ قُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا قُلْتَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَصَاغَرَ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الذُّبَابِ

"لا تَقُلْ: تَعسَ الشَّيْطَانُ، فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا قُلتَ ذَلِكَ تَعَاظمَ؛ فَإنَّهُ يعظُمُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ البَيْتِ، وَيَقُول: بقوَّتِى صَرَعْتُهُ، وَلكِنْ قُلْ: بِسْم اللهِ، فَإِئكَ إِذَا قُلْتَ ذَلِكَ تَصَاغر حَتَّى يَصِيرَ مِثْلَ الذبابِ (فِيمَنْ عَثَرَ) ".
