[Machine] When death approached Abu Talib and Abu Jahl ibn Hisham and Abdullah ibn Abu Umayyah were with him, the Prophet ﷺ came to him and said, "O uncle, say 'There is no god but Allah' as a word I can argue for you with before Allah." They said, "O Abu Talib, are you going to abandon the religion of Abd al-Muttalib?" So Allah revealed, "Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided."
لَمَّا حَضَرَتْ أَبَا طَالِبٍ الْوَفَاةُ وَعِنْدَهُ أَبُو جَهْلِ بْنُ هِشَامٍ وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ أَتَاهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا عَمِّ قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ كَلِمَةً أُحَاجُّ لَكَ بِهَا عِنْدَ اللهِ قَالُوا يَا أَبَا طَالِبٍ أَتَرْغَبُ عَنْ مِلَّةِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ}
