Prophetic obedience of a companion after he was forbidden to wear a gold ring

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a gold ring on a man’s hand, so he removed it and threw it aside, and said: “Would one of you take a live ember of fire and put it in his hand?” 

After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had left, it was said to the man: Take your ring and benefit from it. He said: No, by Allah, I will never take it after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has thrown it aside.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَأَى خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي يَدِ رَجُلٍ، فَنَزَعَهُ فَطَرَحَهُ، وَقَالَ: «يَعْمِدُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى جَمْرَةٍ مِنْ نَارٍ فَيَجْعَلُهَا فِي يَدِهِ؟»، 

فَقِيلَ لِلرَّجُلِ بَعْدَ مَا ذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: خُذْ خَاتَمَكَ انْتَفِعْ بِهِ، قَالَ: لاَ، وَاللَّهِ لاَ آخُذُهُ أَبَدًا وَقَدْ طَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ.

I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ and I was wearing a gold ring. He took a newspaper and struck my hand with it and said, "Throw it away." So, I went out and threw it away. Then, I returned to him and he asked, "What happened to the ring?" I said, "I threw it away." He said, "I only commanded you to enjoy it, not to throw it away."

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَعَلَيَّ خَاتَمٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَأَخَذَ جَرِيدَةً فَضَرَبَ بِهَا كَفِّي وَقَالَ: «اطْرَحْهُ»، قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ فَطَرَحْتُهُ، ثُمَّ عُدْتُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: «مَا فَعَلَ الْخَاتَمُ؟» قَالَ قُلْتُ: طَرَحْتُهُ، قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا أَمَرْتُكَ أَنْ تَسْتَمْتِعَ بِهِ وَلَا تَطْرَحَهُ».

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a gold ring on a man’s hand, so he removed it and threw it aside and said, “Would one of you take a live ember from the Fire and place it in his hand?” Then, after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had gone, it was said to the man, “Take your ring and benefit from it.” He replied, “No, by Allah, I will never take it, after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has thrown it aside.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَأَى خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي يَدِ رَجُلٍ فَنَزَعَهُ فَطَرَحَهُ فَقَالَ «يَعْمِدُ أَحَدُهُمْ إِلَى جَمْرَةٍ مِنَ النَّارِ فَيَجْعَلُهَا فِي يَدِهِ» فَقِيلَ لِلرَّجُلِ بَعْدَمَا ذَهَبَ خُذْ خَاتَمَكَ فَانْتَفِعْ بِهِ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللَّهِ لَا آخُذُهُ أَبَدًا وَقَدْ طَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a gold ring on the hand of a man, so he removed it and threw it away, and said: “Would one of you take a live coal from the Fire and put it in his hand?” After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had gone, it was said to the man: “Take your ring and benefit from it.” He said: “No, by Allah, I will never take it, since the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has thrown it away.”

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَأَى خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِي يَدِ رَجُلٍ فَنَزَعَهُ فَطَرَحَهُ وَقَالَ يَعْمِدُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى جَمْرَةٍ مِنْ نَارٍ فَيَجْعَلُهَا فِي يَدِهِ فَقِيلَ لِلرَّجُلِ بَعْدَ مَا ذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خُذْ خَاتَمَكَ انْتَفِعْ بِهِ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللهِ لَا آخُذُهُ أَبَدًا وَقَدْ طَرَحَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

"عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ رَأَى خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فِى يَدِ رَجُلٍ فَنَزَعَهُ فَطَرَحَهُ وَقَالَ: يَعْمِدُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى جَمْرَةٍ مِنْ نَارٍ فَليَجْعَلهَا فِى يَدِهِ".
