A man brought the Prophet ﷺ a black slave girl. He said: Messenger of Allah, emancipation of believing slave is due to me. He asked her: Where is Allah ? She pointed to the heaven with her finger. He then asked her: Who am I ? She pointed to the Prophet ﷺ and to the heaven, that is to say: You are the Messenger of Allah. He then said: Set her free, she is a believer.

أَنَّ رَجُلاً أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِجَارِيَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَلَىَّ رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً فَقَالَ لَهَا أَيْنَ اللَّهُ فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ بِأُصْبُعِهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا فَمَنْ أَنَا فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ يَعْنِي أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِجَارِيَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ أَعْجَمِيَّةٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ عَلَيَّ عِتْقَ رَقَبَةٍ مُؤْمِنَةٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ أَيْنَ اللهُ؟ فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ بِإِصْبَعِهَا السَّبَّابَةِ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَنْ أَنَا؟ فَأَشَارَتْ بِإِصْبَعِهَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ أَيْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ فَقَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا

Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba ibn Masud that one of the Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a black slave- girl of his. He said, "Messenger of Allah, I must set a slave free who is a mumina. If you think that she is mumina, I will free her." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ questioned her, "Do you testify that there is no god but Allah?" She said, "Yes." "Do you testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" She said, "Yes." "Are you certain about the rising after death?" She said, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Free her."

أَنَّ رَجُلاً مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ جَاءَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِجَارِيَةٍ لَهُ سَوْدَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ عَلَىَّ رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً فَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَرَاهَا مُؤْمِنَةً أُعْتِقُهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَتَشْهَدِينَ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَتَشْهَدِينَ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ أَتُوقِنِينَ بِالْبَعْثِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَعْتِقْهَا

"I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'My mother left a will saying that a slave should be freed on her behalf. I have a Nubian slave girl; will it suffice if I free her on her behalf?' He said: 'Bring her here.' The Prophet said to her: 'Who is your Lord?' She said: 'Allah.' He said: 'Who am I?' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Set her free , for she is a believer.'" قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي أَوْصَتْ إِلِيَّ أَنْ أَعْتِقْ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةً وَإِنَّ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةً سَوْدَاءَ نُوبِيَّةً فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ادْعُ بِهَا فَقَالَ مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟ قَالَتْ اللهُ قَالَ فَمَنْ أَنَا؟ قَالَتْ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ

"عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ: أَتَى النَّبِىَّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ بِجَارِيَة سَوْدَاءَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ الله إِنَّ أُمِّى مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا رَقَبَةٌ مُؤْمنَةٌ فَهَلْ تَجْزِى هَذِه عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : أيْنَ الله؟ فَأوْمَأتْ بِرَأسِهَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَقَالَ: مَنْ أنَا؟ قَالَتْ: رَسُولُ الله ﷺ قَالَ: أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ".
