al-Hasan b. Ali addressed us in a sermon and said: A man departed from you yesterday whom the earlier ones did not surpass in knowledge, and whom the later ones will not reach. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to send him with the banner; Jibril was on his right and Mikail was on his left, and he would not return until victory was granted to him.

خَطَبَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ رَجُلٌ بِالْأَمْسِ، لَمْ يَسْبِقْهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلْمٍ، وَلا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ. كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَبْعَثُهُ بِالرَّايَةِ؛ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ، لَا يَنْصَرِفُ حَتَّى يُفْتَحَ لَهُ.

al-Hasan b. Ali ᴿᴬ addressed us after Ali ᴿᴬ was killed, and he said: A man parted from you yesterday whom the earlier generations did not surpass in knowledge, nor did the later generations catch up to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would send him forth and give him the banner, and he would not return until victory had been granted to him. He left behind neither gold nor silver except seven hundred dirhams from his stipend, which he had been setting aside for a servant for his family.

خَطَبَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ؓ بَعْدَ قَتْلِ عَلِيٍّ، فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ رَجُلٌ بِالْأَمْسِ، مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلْمٍ، وَلا أَدْرَكَهُ الْآخِرُونَ. إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَبْعَثُهُ وَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ، فَلا يَنْصَرِفُ حَتَّى يُفْتَحَ لَهُ، وَمَا تَرَكَ مِنْ صَفْرَاءَ وَلا بَيْضَاءَ إِلا سَبْعَ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ مِنْ عَطَائِهِ، كَانَ يَرْصُدُهَا لِخَادِمٍ لِأَهْلِهِ.

[AI] "O people, yesterday a man left you whom no one preceded or will catch up with. He was the Messenger of Allah who was sent by the sender and was given the banner. He does not return until Allah grants him victory, with Jibril on his right and Mika'il on his left. He does not leave behind any white or yellow except for seven hundred silver coins that were left from his charity. He wanted to buy a servant with them."

«يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ أَمْسِ رَجُلٌ مَا سَبَقَهُ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ لَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَبْعَثُهُ الْمَبْعَثَ فَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ فَمَا يَرْجِعُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ مَا تَرَكَ بَيْضَاءَ وَلَا صَفْرَاءَ إِلَّا سَبْعَ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فَضَلَتْ مِنْ عَطَائِهِ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَ بِهَا خَادِمًا»

[AI] "O people, indeed, you have lost a man whom the predecessors did not surpass, and the successors will not reach. If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were to send him on a secret mission, surely Jibril would be on his right, and Mikael on his left, and by Allah, he would not leave behind a white or yellow object except for eight hundred dirhams for the price of a servant."

«يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَقَدْ فَقَدْتُمْ رَجُلًا لَمْ يَسْبِقْهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَبْعَثُهُ فِي السَّرِيَّةِ وَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ وَاللهِ مَا تَرَكَ بَيْضَاءَ وَلَا صَفْرَاءَ إِلَّا ثَمَانِ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فِي ثَمَنِ خَادِمٍ»

[AI] "O people, a man has left you yesterday, a man whom the predecessors did not surpass in knowledge, and the later generations cannot attain. If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was to send him as a leader and give him the flag, he would not return until Allah grants him victory. Indeed, Gabriel is to his right and Michael is to his left. He does not leave behind any yellow or white, except for seven hundred dirhams. He intends to buy a servant with them."

«يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ بِالْأَمْسِ رَجُلٌ مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلْمٍ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَبْعَثُهُ الْمَبْعَثَ فَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ فَمَا يَرْجِعُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ مَا تَرَكَ صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا سَبْعَ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَ بِهَا خَادِمًا»

[AI] "A man has left you who no one before him surpassed in knowledge, and no one after him will attain his level of understanding. He was the Prophet ﷺ 's emissary whom he would send, giving him the flag, and he would not return until Allah grants him victory. Jibril would be to his right and Mika'il to his left fighting alongside him. He died and did not leave behind any dinar or dirham, but only his armor worth seven hundred dirhams. Such was the extent of his generosity."

«لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يَسْبِقْهُ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ بِعِلْمٍ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ أَحَدٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ مَنْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَبْعَثُهُ فَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ وَلَا يَرْجِعُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللهُ ﷻ عَلَيْهِ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ يُقَاتِلُونَ مَعَهُ مَاتَ وَلَمْ يَتْرُكْ دِينَارًا وَلَا دِرْهَمًا إِلَّا حُلِيًّا قِيمَتُهُ سَبْعُ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ فَضَلَتْ عَنْ عَطَائِهِ»

[AI] A man left you yesterday, who was preceded by the first with knowledge that is not reached by others. If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were to send him, he would give him the banner with Gabriel on his right and Michael on his left, so he would not return until Allah ﷻ grants victory to him.

لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ بِالْأَمْسِ رَجُلٌ مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلْمٍ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيَبْعَثُهُ الْمَبْعَثَ فَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَمَا يَرْجِعُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللهُ ﷻ لَهُ

[AI] O people, a man has passed away among you tonight who was not preceded by the earlier generations and will not be followed by the later ones. He was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , whom Allah sent as a Messenger. Jibril enveloped him from his right and Mika'il from his left. He did not bend until they opened for him what he left behind, except for seven hundred dirhams which he intended to buy a servant with. This happened on the night when 'Isa ibn Maryam ascended, the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan.

أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ قُبِضَ فِيكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يَسْبِقْهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ قَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَبْعَثُهُ الْمَبْعَثَ فَيَكْتَنِفُهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ لَا يَنْثَنِي حَتَّى يُفْتَحَ لَهُمْ مَا تَرَكَ إِلَّا سَبْعَ مِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْتَاعَ بِهَا خَادِمًا وَقَدْ قُبِضَ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الَّتِي عَرَجَ فِيهَا عِيسَى بْنُ مَرْيَمَ لَيْلَةِ سَبْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

[AI] "There was among you yesterday a man whom the first did not surpass and the last will not reach. And indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Tomorrow I will give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.' So Jibreel fought on his right and Mika'il on his left, and his flag is never returned until Allah grants him victory. He will not leave behind a dinar or dirham except that he took it from his charity, for he wanted to buy a servant for his family with it."

«لَقَدْ كَانَ فِيكُمْ بِالْأَمْسِ رَجُلٌ مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ وَلَا يُدْرِكُهُ الْآخِرُونَ» وَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ غَدًا رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ» فَقَاتَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمِيكَائِيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثُمَّ لَا تُرَدُّ يَعْنِي رَايَتَهُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ مَا تَرَكَ دِينَارًا وَلَا دِرْهَمًا إِلَّا سَبْعَمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ أَخَذَهَا مِنْ عَطَائِهِ كَانَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْتَاعَ بِهَا خَادِمًا لِأَهْلِهِ

[AI] A trustworthy man left you, who was not preceded by previous generations in knowledge, nor will be surpassed by future generations. If the messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him and gave him the banner, he would not leave until he achieved victory. He did not leave behind a yellow or white (camel) except that he gave it as charity, a total of seven hundred dirhams, which he used to assign to his family's servant.

لَقَدْ فَارَقَكُمْ رَجُلٌ أَمِينٌ مَا سَبَقَهُ الْأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلْمٍ وَلَا أَدْرَكَهُ الْآخِرُونَ إِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَيَبْعَثُهُ وَيُعْطِيهِ الرَّايَةَ فَلَا يَنْصَرِفُ حَتَّى يُفْتَحَ لَهُ وَمَا تَرَكَ مِنْ صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا سَبْعَمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ مِنْ عَطَائِهِ كَانَ يَرْصُدُهَا لِخَادِمِ أَهْلِهِ

" عَنْ عاصِمِ بن ضَمْرةَ قَالَ: خَطَبَ الحسنُ بنُ علىٍّ حِينَ قُتِلَ عَلِىٌّ، فَقَالَ: يَا أَهْلَ العِراق لَقَدْ كان فيكمُ بيْنَ أَظهُرِكُمْ رَجُلٌ قُتِلَ اللَّيْلَةَ وأُصِيبَ اليَوْمَ، فَلَمْ يَسْبِقْهُ الأَوَّلُونَ بِعِلمٍ، ولَا يُدْرِكهُ الآخِرونَ، كانَ النّبِىُّ ﷺ إِذَا بَعَثَهُ فِى سَرِيَّةٍ وَكَانَ جِبْرِيلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وميكَائيلُ عَنْ يَسَارِه فلا يَرْجِعُ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ الله عَلَيْهِ".
