He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise. A person (amongst his hearers) said: Verily a person loves that his dress should be fine, and his shoes should be fine. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: Verily, Allah is Graceful and He loves Grace. Pride is disdaining the truth (out of self-conceit) and contempt for the people.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ قَالَ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبُهُ حَسَنًا وَنَعْلُهُ حَسَنَةً قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ الْكِبْرُ بَطَرُ الْحَقِّ وَغَمْطُ النَّاسِ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever has a speck of pride (arrogance) in his heart, shall not be admitted into Paradise. And whoever has a speck of faith in his heart, shall not be admitted in to the Fire.'" He said: "So a man said to him: 'I like for my clothes to be nice, and my sandals to be nice?' So he said: 'Indeed Allah loves beauty. But pride is refusing the truth and belittling the people.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ وَلاَ يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ يَعْنِي مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ إِنَّهُ يُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي حَسَنًا وَنَعْلِي حَسَنَةً قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ بَطَرَ الْحَقَّ وَغَمَصَ النَّاسَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One who has an atom’s weight of faith in his heart will not enter the Hellfire, and one who has an atom’s weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise." A man then asked, "O Messenger of Allah, I like to dress nicely, have clean hair, wear new shoes, and mention things until I even mention the strap of my whip. Does that count as arrogance?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "No, that is not arrogance. That is beauty. Indeed, Allah is beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking down upon people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَلَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي غَسِيلًا وَرَأْسِي دَهِينًا وَشِرَاكُ نَعْلِي جَدِيدًا وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ عِلَاقَةَ سَوْطِهِ أَفَمِنَ الْكِبْرِ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ لَا ذَاكَ الْجَمَالُ إِنَّ اللهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ سَفِهَ الْحَقَّ وَازْدَرَى النَّاسَ

[AI] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no man who dies while in his heart there is an atom's weight of arrogance, but Paradise will be prohibited to him and he will not enter it. A man from the Quraysh, whose name was Abu Rihana, said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I love beauty and desire it so much that I love it in the string of my whip and in the strap of my sandal.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'That is not arrogance. Indeed, Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty. But arrogance is to reject the truth and look down on people.'"

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ يَمُوتُ حِينَ يَمُوتُ وَفِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ تَحِلُّ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ أَنْ يَرِيحَ رِيحَهَا وَلَا يَرَاهَا فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ أَبُو رَيْحَانَةَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَأَشْتَهِيهِ حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّهُ فِي عَلَاقَةِ سَوْطِي وَفِي شِرَاكِ نَعْلِي قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ ذَاكَ الْكِبْرُ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ سَفِهَ الْحَقَّ وَغَمَصَ النَّاسَ بِعَيْنَيْهِ

[AI] It was narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he said, "Whoever has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise." A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, I like for my clothes to be nice, my head to be neat, and my sandals to be new." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah is Beautiful and He loves beauty. Arrogance means rejecting the truth and looking down on people."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ «لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ حَبَّةٌ مِنْ كِبْرٍ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ لَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي جَدِيدًا وَرَأْسِي دَهِينًا وَشِرَاكُ نَعْلِي جَدِيدًا قَالَ وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ عِلَاقَةَ سَوْطِهِ فَقَالَ «ذَاكَ جَمَالٌ وَاللَّهُ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ بَطِرَ الْحَقَّ وَازْدَرَى النَّاسَ»

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَلَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ» فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيُحِبُّ أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبُهُ حَسَنًا وَنَعْلُهُ حَسَنَةً فَقَالَ «إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ الْكِبْرُ مَنْ بَطِرَ الْحَقَّ وَغَمَصَ النَّاسَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever has an atom's weight of faith in his heart will not enter the Fire, and whoever has an atom's weight of arrogance in his heart will not enter Paradise." A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah, I like for my clothes to be clean, my head to be anointed, and my shoes to be new. And he mentioned other things, including the attachment to the whip. Is that considered arrogance, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "No, that is not arrogance. Indeed, Allah ﷻ is beautiful and loves beauty. But arrogance is to reject the truth and look down upon people."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَلَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ حَبَّةٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ» قَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّهُ لَيُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي غَسِيلًا وَرَأْسِي دَهِينًا وَشِرَاكُ نَعْلِي جَدِيدًا وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ عِلَاقَةَ السَّوْطِ أَفَمِنَ الْكِبْرِ ذَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «لَا ذَاكَ الْجَمَالُ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ جَمِيلٌ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ سَفَّهَ الْحَقَّ وَازْدَرَى النَّاسَ»

"لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ من كانَ في قلبِه مثقالُ ذرة من كبرٍ، قيل: إن الرَّجَلَ يحبُّ أن يكونَ ثوبهُ حسنًا، ونَعله حسنةً؟ قال: إن الله جميل يُحب الجمال، الكبر بَطَرُ الحق، وغَمطُ الناس".

"عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُ ليُعْجِبُنى أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِى غَسِيلًا ورَأسِى دَهِينًا، وَشِرَاكُ نَعْلِى جَدِيدًا وَذَكَرَ أَشْيَاءَ حَتَّى ذَكَرَ عَلاقَةَ سَوْطِه أَفمِنْ الكِبْرُ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لا، هَذَا مِنْ الجمَالِ واللهُ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ، وَلَكنَّ الْكِبْرَّ مَنْ سَفَّه الحقَّ وظَلَمَ النَّاسَ" .
