I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The good deeds of any person will not make him enter Paradise." (i.e., None can enter Paradise through his good deeds.) They (the Prophet's companions) said, 'Not even you, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said, "Not even myself, unless Allah bestows His favor and mercy on me." So be moderate in your religious deeds and do the deeds that are within your ability: and none of you should wish for death, for if he is a good doer, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil doer, he may repent to Allah."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَنْ يُدْخِلَ أَحَدًا عَمَلُهُ الْجَنَّةَ قَالُوا وَلاَ أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لاَ وَلاَ أَنَا إِلاَّ أَنْ يَتَغَمَّدَنِي اللَّهُ بِفَضْلٍ وَرَحْمَةٍ فَسَدِّدُوا وَقَارِبُوا وَلاَ يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَزْدَادَ خَيْرًا وَإِمَّا مُسِيئًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ

(the Maula of ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Azhar) Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "None of you should long for death, for if he is a good man, he may increase his good deeds, and if he is an evil-doer, he may stop the evil deeds and repent."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَتَمَنَّى أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَلَعَلَّهُ يَزْدَادُ وَإِمَّا مُسِيئًا فَلَعَلَّهُ يَسْتَعْتِبُ

"None of you should wish for death. Either he is a doer of good, so perhaps he may do more good, or he is an evildoer but perhaps he will give up his evil ways."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمُ الْمَوْتَ إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَزْدَادَ خَيْرًا وَإِمَّا مُسِيئًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ

'None of you should wish for death. Either he is a doer of good, so if he lives he will do more good or he is a doer of evil but perhaps he will give up his evil ways."'

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَعِيشَ يَزْدَادُ خَيْرًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ وَإِمَّا مُسِيئًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ

"None of you should wish for death. Either he is a doer of good, so perhaps he may do more good, or he is an evildoer but perhaps he will give up his evil ways." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1818)

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: None of you should wish for death, either due to a hardship, so they seek forgiveness, or due to a goodness, so they can increase it.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا يَتَمَنَّى أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَإِنْ يَعِشْ يَزْدَدْ خَيْرًا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ وَإِمَّا مُسِيئًا فَلَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ» قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَهَذَا أَوْلَى بِالصَّوَابِ مِنَ الَّذِي قَبْلَهُ

"لَنْ يُدْخِلَ أَحَدًا عمَلُهُ الجَنَّةَ، قَالُوا: ولا أَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قال: وَلَا أَنَا إِلَّا أنْ يَتَغَمَّدَنِى اللهِ بِفَضْلِ رَحْمَتِهِ، فَسَدِّدُوا وَقَارِبُوا، ولا يَتَمَنَّى أحَدُكمْ المَوْتَ، إِمَّا مُحْسِنٌ فَلَعَلَّهُ يَزْدَادُ خَيرًا، وإمَّا مُسِئٌ فَلعَلَّهُ أنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ".

"لا يَتَمَنَّيَنَّ أحَدُكُمْ الْمَوْتَ، إِمَّا مُحْسِنًا فَلَعَلَّهُ إن يعش يَزْدَدْ خيرًا وهو خير له، وإما مسيئًا فلعلَّه أنْ يَسْتَعْتِبَ".
