[AI] On the authority of Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whenever a servant is afflicted with a calamity and he says, 'Verily, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better,' then Allah ﷻ rewards him for his affliction and replaces it for him with something better." Umm Salamah said, "When Abu Salamah passed away, I said, 'Who is better than Abu Salamah, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' Then Allah ﷻ made me firm in saying it, so I said, 'O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.' After that, I married the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said: "No Muslim is afflicted with a calamity and says 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better,' except that Allah will grant him reward for his affliction and replace it with something better." She said: "So I said, 'Indeed Allah has rewarded me in my affliction, so who will replace me in the place of Abu Salama?' When her waiting period was over, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proposed to her."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman from Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If a misfortune befalls some one and he says, as Allah has ordered, 'We belong to Allah and to Him we are returning. O Allah, reward me in my misfortune and give me better than it afterwards,' Allah will do that for him" (Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. Allahumma' jurniy fi musiybatiy, wa a qibhiy khayran minha, illa faala 'llahu dhalika bihi.). Umm Salama said, "When Abu Salama died I said that, and then I said, 'Who is better than Abu Salama?' " And then Allah left her the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he married her.
