"الحياءُ والعِيُّ شُعْبَتَان مِنَ الإِيمانِ، والبذاءُ شعبتان مِنَ النِّفاق".
Modesty and holding back what you say is a sign of Iman
from the Prophet ﷺ ˹who˺ said: Modesty and hesitation ˹in speech˺ are two branches of Iman, ˹while˺ crudeness and ˹bluntness˺ (or excessive speech) are two branches of hypocrisy.
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْحَيَاءُ وَالْعِيُّ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنَ الإِيمَانِ وَالْبَذَاءُ وَالْبَيَانُ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ
from the Prophet ﷺ ˹who˺ said: Shyness and hesitation ˹in speech˺ are two branches of Iman, ˹while˺ crudeness and ˹bluntness˺ are two branches of hypocrisy.
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْحَيَاءُ وَالْعِيُّ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْبَذَاءُ وَالْبَيَانُ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ
the Messenger of Allah Prophet ﷺ said: Hesitation and shyness ˹in speech˺ are two branches of Iman, ˹while˺ crudeness and antipathy are two branches of hypocrisy.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْعِيُّ وَالْحَيَاءُ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْبَذَاءُ وَالْجَفَاءُ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ»
Shyness and hesitation in speech are two branches of Iman, ˹while˺ crudeness and ˹bluntness˺ are two branches of hypocrisy."
