Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered (a person) to collect Zakat, and that person returned and told him that Ibn Jamil, Khalid bin Al-Walid, and ʿAbbas bin ʿAbdul Muttalib had refused to give Zakat." The Prophet said, "What made Ibn Jamil refuse to give Zakat though he was a poor man, and was made wealthy by Allah and His Apostle ? But you are unfair in asking Zakat from Khalid as he is keeping his armor for Allah's Cause (for Jihad). As for ʿAbbas bin ʿAbdul Muttalib, he is the uncle of Allah's Apostle ﷺ and Zakat is compulsory on him and he should pay it double."  

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالصَّدَقَةِ فَقِيلَ مَنَعَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَا يَنْقِمُ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَأَغْنَاهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَأَمَّا خَالِدٌ فَإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُونَ خَالِدًا قَدِ احْتَبَسَ أَدْرَاعَهُ وَأَعْتُدَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَأَمَّا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَعَمُّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَهْىَ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ وَمِثْلُهَا مَعَهَا  

Ibn Jamil is taking revenge but for this that he was destitute and Allah made him rich. As regards Khalid, you are unjust to Khalid, for be reserved his armours and weapons for the sake of Allah, and as for 'Abbas, I shall be responsible for it and an equal amount along with it. And he again said: 'Umar, bear this in mind, the uncle of a person is like his father.

The Prophet ﷺ sent Umar b. al-Khattab to collect sadaqa (All the people paid the zakat but ibn-jamil, Khalid b. al-walid and al-abbas refused. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said : Ibn-jamil is not (so much) objecting, but he was poor and Allah enriched him. As for Khalid b. Walid, you are wronging him, for he has kept back his courts of mail and weapons to use them in Allah’s path. As for al-Abbas, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah(May peace be upon him), I shall be responsible for it and an equal amount along with it. Then he said did you not know(Umar) that a man’s paternal uncle is of the same stock as the father or his father?

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَلَى الصَّدَقَةِ فَمَنَعَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَالْعَبَّاسُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَا يَنْقِمُ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ إِلَّا أَنْ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَأَغْنَاهُ اللَّهُ وَأَمَّا خَالِدٌ فَإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُونَ خَالِدًا لَقَدِ احْتَبَسَ أَدْرَاعَهُ وَأَعْتَادَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَأَمَّا الْعَبَّاسُ فَعَمُّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَهُوَ عَلَيَّ وَمِثْلُهَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَمَا شَعَرْتَ أَنَّ عَمَّ الرَّجُلِ صِنْوُ الرَّجُلِ أَوْ صِنْوُ أَبِيهِ»  

"Umar said: 'The Messenger of Allah enjoined Sadaqah and it was said that Ibn Jamil, Khalid bin Al-Walid and 'Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib had withheld some. The Messenger of Allah said: What is the matter with Ibn Jamil? Was he not poor then Allah made him rich? As for Khalid bin Al-Walid, you are being unfair to Khalid, for he is saving his shields and weapons for the sake of Allah. As for Al-Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib, the paternal uncle of the Messenger of Allah, it is and obligatory charity for him and he has to pay as much again."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2464)   

قَالَ عُمَرُ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصَدَقَةٍ فَقِيلَ مَنَعَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا يَنْقِمُ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَأَغْنَاهُ اللهُ وَأَمَّا خَالِدٌ فَإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُونَ خَالِدًا قَدِ احْتَبَسَ أَدْرَاعَهُ وَأَعْتُدَهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أَمَّا العَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ عَمُّ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَهِيَ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ وَمِثْلُهَا مَعَهَا» 2256 أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَنْ مُوسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزِّنَادِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بِصَدَقَةِ مِثْلِهِ سَوَاءً»  

"ما يَنْقِمُ ابنُ جمِيل إلا أَنَّهُ كانَ فَقِيرًا فأغْنَاهُ اللهُ وَرسُولُهُ، وأمَّا خَالِدٌ، فإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُونَ خَالِدًا وَقَدْ احْتَبس درعَه وَأَعْتُدَهُ فِي سبِيلِ اللهِ، وأمَّا الْعَبَّاسُ فَهِي عَليَّ وَمِثْلُهَا معها، يَا عُمَرُ أَنْ (*) شَعرت أَنَّ عَمَّ الرَّجُلِ صِنْوُ أَبيِه".  

"عَنْ عمر قال: أَمَرَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ بِصَدَقَةٍ فَقِيلَ: مَنَعَ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ، وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الوَلِيد، وَعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ المُطَّلِبِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : مَا ينقمُ ابْنُ جَمِيلٍ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ كَانَ فَقِيرًا فَأَغْنَاهُ الله، وَأَمَّا خَالِدٌ فَإِنَّكُمْ تَظْلِمُون خَالدًا، قَدِ احْتَبَسَ أَدْرَاعَهُ وَأَعْتُدَهُ فِى سَبِيلِ الله، وَأَمَّا العَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ المُطَّلِبِ عَمُّ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ فَهِىَ عَلَيْهِ صَدَقَةٌ وَمِثْلُهَا مَعَهَا".
