" O Allah, Thou created my being and it is for Thee to take it to its ultimate goal. And its death and life is due to Thee, and if Thou givest it life, safeguard it; and if Thou bringst death, grant it pardon. O Allah, I beg of Thee safety." A person said to him: Did you hear it from Umar? Thereupon he said: (I have heard from one) who is better than Umar, viz. from Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Ibn Nafi, reported this on the authority of Abdullah b. Harith but he did not make mention of this" that he heard it himself".  

اللَّهُمَّ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ أَسَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مِنْ عُمَرَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ ابْنُ نَافِعٍ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ سَمِعْتُ

اللهُمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا اللهُمَّ أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ عُمَرَ؟ فَقَالَ مِنْ خَيْرٍ مِنْ عُمَرَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] "O Allah, You have created my soul and it is You who will take its life. To You belongs its death and its resurrection. O Allah, if You cause it to die, then forgive it. And if You give it life, then protect it. O Allah, I ask You for well-being." A man said to him, "Was it Umar who used to say this?" He replied, "No, it was better than Umar who used to say it. We thought that he had learned it from the Prophet ﷺ."  

«اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي وَأَنْتَ تَتَوَفَّاهَا لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا وَإِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ» فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ وَلَدِهِ أَكَانَ عُمَرُ يَقُولُ هَذَا؟ قَالَ بَلْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عُمَرَ كَانَ يَقُولُهُ فَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

"عَن عَبْدِ الله بْنِ الْحَارِثِ مِنْ آلِ سيرينَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِى وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا، لَكَ مَحْيَاهَا وَمَمَاتُهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا، وإنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّى أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أَكَانَ عُمَرُ يَقُولُ هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ: مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عُمَرَ، رَسُولُ الله ﷺ ".
