muslim:834Ḥarmalah b. Yaḥyá al-Tujībī > ʿAbdullāh b. Wahb > ʿAmr Wahū Ibn al-Ḥārith > Bukayr > Kurayb a freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbās

I along with 'Umar b. al-Khattab dissuaded people to do so (to observe two rak'ahs of prayer). Kuraib said: I went to her ('A'isha) and conveyed to her the message with which I was sent. She said: (Better) ask Umm Salama. So I went to them (those who had sent him to Hadrat 'A'isha) and informed them about what she had said. They sent me back to Umm Salama with that with which I was sent to 'A'isha. Umm Salama said: I beard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibiting them, and then afterwards I saw him observing them. And when he observed them (two rak'ahs) he had already observed the 'Asr prayer. Then he (the Holy Prophet) came, while there were with me ladies of Banu Haram, a tribe of the Ansar and he (the Holy Prophet) observed them (the two rak'ahs). I sent a slave-girl to him asking her to stand by his side and say to him that Umm Salama says: Messenger of Allah, I heard you prohibiting these two rak'ahs, whereas I saw you observing them; and if he (the Holy Prophet) points with his hand (to wait), then do wait. The slave-girl did like that. He (the Holy Prophet) pointed out with his hand and she got aside and waited, and when he had finished (the prayer) he said: Daughter of Abu Umayya. you have asked about the two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer. Some people of 'Abu al-Qais came to me for embracing Islam and hindered me from observing the two rak'ahs which come after the noon prayer. So those are the two I have been praying.

I was sent to Aisha by Ibn ʿAbbas, Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Azhar . They told me to greet her on their behalf and to ask her about the offering of the two rakʿat after the ʿAsr prayer and to say to her, "We were informed that you offer those two rakʿat and we were told that the Prophet had forbidden offering them." Ibn ʿAbbas said, "I along with ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab used to beat the people whenever they offered them." I went to Aisha and told her that message. ʿAisha said, "Go and ask Um Salama about them." So I returned and informed them about her statement. They then told me to go to Um Salama with the same question with which t sent me to ʿAisha. Um Salama replied, "I heard the Prophet ﷺ forbidding them. Later I saw him offering them immediately after he prayed the ʿAsr prayer. He then entered my house at a time when some of the Ansari women from the tribe of Bani Haram were sitting with me, so I sent my slave girl to him having said to her, 'Stand beside him and tell him that Um Salama says to you, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have heard you forbidding the offering of these (two rakʿat after the ʿAsr prayer) but I have seen you offering them." If he waves his hand then wait for him.' The slave girl did that. The Prophet ﷺ beckoned her with his hand and she waited for him. When he had finished the prayer he said, "O daughter of Bani Umaiya! You have asked me about the two rakʿat after the ʿAsr prayer. The people of the tribe of ʿAbdul-Qais came to me and made me busy and I could not offer the two rakʿat after the Zuhr prayer. These (two rakʿat that I have just prayed) are for those (missed) ones.

bukhari:4370Yaḥyá b. Sulaymān > Ibn Wahb > ʿAmr > Bakr b. Muḍar > ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith > Bukayr > Kurayb a freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbās > Ibn ʿAbbās And ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Azhar Wa-al-Miswar b. That Kuraib, the freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbas told him that Ibn ʿAbbas, ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Azhar and Al-Miswar bin Makhrama sent him to ʿAisha saying, "Pay her our greetings and ask her about our offering of the two-rakʿat after ʿAsr Prayer, and tell her that we have been informed that you offer these two rakʿat while we have heard that the Prophet ﷺ had forbidden their offering." Ibn ʿAbbas said, "I and ʿUmar used to beat the people for their offering them." Kuraib added, "I entered upon her and delivered their message to her.' She said, 'Ask Um Salama.' So, I informed them (of ʿAisha's answer) and they sent me to Um Salama for the same purpose as they sent me to ʿAisha. Um Salama replied, 'I heard the Prophet ﷺ forbidding the offering of these two rakʿat. Once the Prophet ﷺ offered the ʿAsr prayer, and then came to me. And at that time some Ansari women from the Tribe of Banu Haram were with me. Then (the Prophet ﷺ ) offered those two rakʿat, and I sent my (lady) servant to him, saying, 'Stand beside him and say (to him): Um Salama says, 'O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Didn't I hear you forbidding the offering of these two rakʿat (after the ʿAsr prayer yet I see you offering them?' And if he beckons to you with his hand, then wait behind.' So the lady slave did that and the Prophet ﷺ beckoned her with his hand, and she stayed behind, and when the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer, he said, 'O the daughter of Abu Umaiya (i.e. Um Salama), You were asking me about these two rakʿat after the ʿAsr prayer. In fact, some people from the tribe of ʿAbdul Qais came to me to embrace Islam and busied me so much that I did not offer the two rakʿat which were offered after Zuhr compulsory prayer, and these two rakʿat (you have seen me offering) make up for those."

That 'Abd Allah b. Abbas, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Azhar and al-Miswar b. Makhramah sent him to 'Aishah, wife of the Prophet ﷺ. They said: Convey our regards to her from all of us and ask her about the two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer, and tell her that we have been informed that she prays them, and we are told that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited them. I entered upon her and told her that for which they had sent me to her. She said: Ask Umm Salamah. I returned to them (Ibn 'Abbas and others) and informed them about her opinion. They sent me back to Umm Salamah with the same mission for which they had sent me to 'Aishah. Umm Salamah said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibiting them, but later on I saw him praying them. When he prayed them, he had offered the 'Asr prayer. He then came to me while a number of women from Banu Haram from the Ansar were sitting with me. He prayed these two rak'ahs. I sent a slave girl to him and I told her: Stand beside him and tell him that Umm Salamah has asked: Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I heard you prohibiting these two rak'ahs (after the afternoon prayer) but I see you praying them yourself. If he makes a sign with his hand, step backward from him. The slave girl did so. When he finished prayer, he said: O daughter of Abu Umayyah, you asked about the praying of two rak'ahs after the 'Asr prayer, in fact, some people of 'Abd al-Qais has come to me with the news that their people had embraced Islam. They hindered me from praying the two rak'ahs after Zuhr prayer. It is those two rak'ahs (which I offered after the 'Asr prayer)

“I came to ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘As when he was sitting in the shade of the Ka’bah, and the people were gathered around him, and I heard him say: ‘While we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, he stopped to camp and some of us were pitching tents, some were competing in shooting arrows and some were taking the animals out to graze them. Then his caller called out: “As-Salatu Jami’ah (prayer is about to begin).” So we gathered, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and addressed us. He said: “There has never been a Prophet before me who was not obliged to tell his nation of what he knew was good for them, and to warn against what he knew was bad for them. With regard to this nation of yours, soundness (of religious commitment) and well-being has been placed in its earlier generations and the last of them will be afflicted with calamities and things that you dislike. Then there will come tribulations which will make the earlier ones pale into significance, and the believer will say: ‘This will be the end of me,’ then relief will come. Then (more) tribulations will come and the believer will say: ‘This will be the end of me,’ then relief will come. Whoever would like to be taken far away from Hell and admitted to Paradise, let him die believing in Allah and the Last Day, and let him treat people as he would like to be treated. Whoever gives his oath of allegiance to a ruler and gives a sincere promise, let him obey him as much as he can, and if another comes and challenges him, let them strike the neck (i.e., kill) the second one.’” He the narrator said: “I raised my head among the people and said: 'I adjure you by Allah, did you hear that from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' [Machine] My father agreed on performing the Umrah pilgrimage, so when the time came for us to depart, he said, "Oh my son, if we were to visit the prince, we should bid him farewell." I replied, "Whatever you wish." So we visited Marwan, and among those present was Abdullah ibn Zubayr. They mentioned the two units of prayer that Ibn Zubayr used to perform after Asr prayer. Marwan asked him, "From whom did you learn these two units of prayer, O son of Zubayr?" He replied, "Abu Hurairah informed me of them, from Aisha." Marwan sent a message to Aisha, asking, "Do you know anything about the two units of prayer that Ibn Zubayr performs after Asr prayer, claiming that Abu Hurairah informed him of them from you?". Aisha sent back, saying, "May Allah forgive Aisha, as I have misplaced my matter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Dhuhr and there was money that had come to him, so he sat down to distribute it until the Muadhin came to him for Asr prayer. He then prayed Asr and came to me. It happened to be my day, so he performed two light units of prayer. I then said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Were you commanded to perform these two units of prayer?' He replied, 'No, but these two units of prayer were the ones that I used to perform after Dhuhr, but the division of this money distracted me until the time for Asr arrived. I disliked abandoning them.' Ibn Zubayr said: 'Allah is Greater! Did he not perform them once?' By Allah! I will never abandon them." Umm Salamah remarked, "I never saw him performing these two units of prayer before or after this incident."

darimi:1476Aḥmad b. ʿĪsá > ʿAbdullāh b. Wahb > ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith > Bukayr b. al-Ashaj > Kurayb a freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbās

It is those two rak'ahs (which I offered after the 'Asr prayer) (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1273)

In fact, some people from the tribe of ʿAbdul Qais came to me to embrace Islam and busied me so much that I did not offer the two rakʿat which were offered after Zuhr compulsory prayer, and these two rakʿat (you have seen me offering) make up for those." [Machine] I was sent by Ibn Ayyash bin Abi Rabia to Umar bin Abdul Aziz for his needs. I entered upon him and there was a scribe with him who was writing. I greeted him and he replied with greetings. Then, I said, "Peace be upon you, O Commander of the Faithful, and the mercy of Allah." He said, "O son of Ziyad, we do not deny the first thing you said." The scribe was reading to him the grievances that came from Basra. Then, he told me to sit, so I sat on a step near the door while he listened to the scribe reading. Umar was sighing heavily. When he finished, he dismissed everyone in the room until only I and him were present. He sat in front of me and placed his hands on my knees. Then, he said, "O son of Abi Ziyad, have you worn this armor?" I said, "Yes, I have a padded armor made of wool and I have rested from what we were in." Then, he asked me about the righteous men and women of Madinah, and he asked me about the matters he had commanded them in Madinah, and I informed him. Then, he said, "O son of Abi Ziyad, don't you see what has happened to me?" I said, "Rejoice, O Commander of the Faithful, for I hope good for you." He said, "Never, never." Then, he cried until I also mourned for him. I said, "O Commander of the Faithful, some of your actions are praiseworthy, for I hope good for you." He said, "Never, never. I neither insult nor am I insulted, I neither strike nor am I struck, I neither harm nor am I harmed." He said, and then he cried until I also mourned for him. So, I stayed until he fulfilled my needs, and he wrote to my master asking him to sell me, but he refused and then freed me.
