Staying steadfast on Tawhid

muslim:38 – [Chain 1] Abū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah And ʾAbū Kurayb > Ibn Numayr [Chain 2] Qutaybah b. Saʿīd And ʾIsḥāq b. Ibrāhīm > Jarīr [Chain 3] Abū Kurayb > Abū Usāmah > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father

I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about Islam a thing something after which I would not need to ask anyone else after you – and in the hadith of Abū Usāmah the ˹words˺ are: other than you – He said: "Say: I believe in Allah, and then remain steadfast upon it."  

مسلم:٣٨ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْ لِي فِي الإِسْلاَمِ قَوْلاً لاَ أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ؟ – وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ: غَيْرَكَ – قَالَ: «قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ فَاسْتَقِمْ۔»

ahmad:19431 – Hushaym > Yaʿlá b. ʿAṭāʾ

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, Husaym said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam which I may not ask anyone else after you.' He said: 'Say: I believe in Allah, then be steadfast.' I said: 'So what should I fear?' He pointed to his tongue and said: 'Restrain this.'"  

أحمد:١٩٤٣١ – حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَقَدْ قَالَ هُشَيْمٌ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مُرْنِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ بِأَمْرٍ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَمَا أَتَّقِي فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ  

ahmad:15416 – Wakīʿ Waʾabū Muʿāwiyah > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam that I can ask no one but you about." He said, "Say, 'I believe in Allah,' and then be steadfast."  

أحمد:١٥٤١٦ – حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا غَيْرَكَ قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ بَعْدَكَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ  

ahmad:15417 – Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > Yaʿlá b. ʿAṭāʾ > ʿAbdullāh b. Sufyān from his father

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, inform me of a matter in Islam that I will not ask anyone about after you." He (the Prophet) said, "Say, 'I believe in Allah,' and then be steadfast." He (the questioner) said, "O Messenger of Allah, what should I fear?" He (the Prophet) said, "Pointing to his tongue, said: Control this."  

أحمد:١٥٤١٧ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي بِأَمْرٍ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَيَّ شَيْءٍ أَتَّقِي؟ قَالَ فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ  

ذِكْرُ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَى الْمَرْءِ مِنْ سُؤَالِ الْبَارِي تَعَالَى الثَّبَاتَ وَالِاسْتِقَامَةَ عَلَى مَا يُقَرِّبُهُ إِلَيْهِ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْنَا بِذَلِكَ

ibnhibban:942 – Muḥammad

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me a saying that I will not ask anyone else about after you." He said, "Say: 'I believed in Allah and then I remained steadfast.'"  

ابن حبّان:٩٤٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ بِالْبَصْرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْقُرَشِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْ لِي قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ قَالَ «قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ»  

tabarani:6398 – Muʿādh b. al-Muthanná > Musaddad > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > Shuʿbah > Yaʿlá b. ʿAṭāʾ > ʿAbdullāh b. Sufyān from his father

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, give me a saying in Islam that I do not need to ask anyone after you." He said, "Say, 'I believe in Allah' and then remain upright." I asked, "What should I fear, O Messenger of Allah?" he motioned towards his tongue.  

الطبراني:٦٣٩٨ – حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ؟ فَقَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ قُلْتُ مَا أَتَّقِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ»
