ahmad:15416Wakīʿ Waʾabū Muʿāwiyah > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam that I can ask no one but you about." He said, "Say, 'I believe in Allah,' and then be steadfast."  

أحمد:١٥٤١٦حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا غَيْرَكَ قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ بَعْدَكَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ

I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me about Islam a thing something after which I would not need to ask anyone else after you. In the Ḥadīth of Abū Usāmah the ˹words˺ are: other than you. He said: "Say: I believe in Allah, and then remain steadfast upon it."  

مسلم:٣٨حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْ لِي فِي الإِسْلاَمِ قَوْلاً لاَ أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ؟ وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ: غَيْرَكَ۔ قَالَ: «قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ فَاسْتَقِمْ۔»

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, inform me of a matter in Islam that I will not ask anyone about after you." He (the Prophet) said, "Say, 'I believe in Allah,' and then be steadfast." He (the questioner) said, "O Messenger of Allah, what should I fear?" He (the Prophet) said, "Pointing to his tongue, said: Control this."  

أحمد:١٥٤١٧حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَخْبِرْنِي بِأَمْرٍ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَأَيَّ شَيْءٍ أَتَّقِي؟ قَالَ فَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ

[Machine] "O Messenger of Allah, Husaym said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam which I may not ask anyone else after you.' He said: 'Say: I believe in Allah, then be steadfast.' I said: 'So what should I fear?' He pointed to his tongue and said: 'Restrain this.'"

يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَقَدْ قَالَ هُشَيْمٌ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مُرْنِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ بِأَمْرٍ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ قَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ قَالَ قُلْتُ فَمَا أَتَّقِي فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me about an action in Islam that I will not have to seek anyone's help for." He said, "Fear Allah and be upright." I said, "Then what?" He pointed to his tongue and said.  

الدارمي:٢٧٥٢أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا قَالَ «اتَّقِ اللَّهَ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ» قَالَ قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَيُّ شَيْءٍ؟ قَالَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ  

ذِكْرُ مَا يَجِبُ عَلَى الْمَرْءِ مِنْ سُؤَالِ الْبَارِي تَعَالَى الثَّبَاتَ وَالِاسْتِقَامَةَ عَلَى مَا يُقَرِّبُهُ إِلَيْهِ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ عَلَيْنَا بِذَلِكَ

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, tell me a saying that I will not ask anyone else about after you." He said, "Say: 'I believed in Allah and then I remained steadfast.'"  

ابن حبّان:٩٤٢أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ بِالْبَصْرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْقُرَشِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قُلْ لِي قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ قَالَ «قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ»

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, give me a saying in Islam that I do not need to ask anyone after you." He said, "Say, 'I believe in Allah' and then remain upright." I asked, "What should I fear, O Messenger of Allah?" he motioned towards his tongue.  

الطبراني:٦٣٩٨حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا مُسَدَّدٌ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ؟ فَقَالَ قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ قُلْتُ مَا أَتَّقِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ «فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ»
