Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The riding one should greet the walking one, and the walking one should greet the sitting one, and the small number of persons should greet the large number of persons."

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The rights of a Muslim on the Muslims are five: to respond to the salaam, visiting the sick, to follow the funeral processions, to accept an invitation, and to reply to those who sneeze. (see Hadith 1239)

A Jew passed by Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "As-Samu 'Alaika." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said in reply, "We 'Alaika." Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to his companions, "Do you know what he (the Jew) has said? He said, 'As-Samu 'Alaika.'" They said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Shall we kill him?" The Prophet, said, "No. When the people of the Book greet you, say: 'Wa 'Alaikum.'"

A group of Jews came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "As-samu 'Alaika " (Death be on you), and I understood it and said to them, "Alaikum AsSamu wa-l-la'na (Death and curse be on you)." Allah's Apostle said, "Be calm! O ʿAisha, for Allah loves that one should be kind and lenient in all matters." I said. "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Haven't you heard what they have said?" Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have (already) said (to them), 'Alaikum (upon you).' "

Sauda (the wife of the Prophet) went out to answer the call of nature after it was made obligatory (for all the Muslims ladies) to observe the veil. She had a large frame and everybody who knew her before could recognize her. So ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab saw her and said, "O Sauda! By Allah, you cannot hide yourself from us, so think of a way by which you should not be recognized on going out. Sauda returned while Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in my house taking his supper and a bone covered with meat was in his hand. She entered and said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I went out to answer the call of nature and ʿUmar said to me so-and-so." Then Allah inspired him (the Prophet) and when the state of inspiration was over and the bone was still in his hand as he had not put in down, he said (to Sauda), "You (women) have been allowed to go out for your needs."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Beware of entering upon the ladies." A man from the Ansar said, "Allah's Apostle! What about Al-Hamu the in-laws of the wife (the brothers of her husband or his nephews etc.)?" The Prophet ﷺ replied: The in-laws of the wife are death itself.

(1404) bukhari:2035Abū al-Yamān > Shuʿayb > al-Zuhrī > ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn

Safiya, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ told me that she went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ to visit him in the mosque while he was in Iʿtikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. She had a talk with him for a while, then she got up in order to return home. The Prophet ﷺ accompanied her. When they reached the gate of the mosque, opposite the door of Um-Salama, two Ansari men were passing by and they greeted Allah's Apostle . He told them: Do not run away! And said, "She is (my wife) Safiya bint Huyai." Both of them said, "Subhan Allah, (How dare we think of any evil) O Messenger of Allah ﷺ!" And they felt it. The Prophet said (to them), "Satan reaches everywhere in the human body as blood reaches in it, (everywhere in one's body). I was afraid lest Satan might insert an evil thought in your minds."

While Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting in the mosque with some people, three men came. Two of them came in front of Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the third one went away. The two persons kept on standing before Messenger of Allah ﷺ for a while and then one of them found a place in the circle and sat there while the other sat behind the gathering, and the third one went away. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his preaching, he said, "Shall I tell you about these three persons? One of them betook himself to Allah, so Allah took him into His grace and mercy and accommodated him, the second felt shy from Allah, so Allah sheltered Him in His mercy (and did not punish him), while the third turned his face from Allah and went away, so Allah turned His face from him likewise. "

(1406) bukhari:6269Ismāʿīl b. ʿAbdullāh > Mālik > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

The Prophet ﷺ said, "A man should not make another man get up from his (the latter's) seat (in a gathering) in order to sit there.

(1407) bukhari:4324al-Ḥumaydī > Sufyān > Hishām from his father > Zaynab Āb.ah Abū Salamah from her mother

The Prophet ﷺ came to me while there was an effeminate man sitting with me, and I heard him (i.e. the effeminate man) saying to ʿAbdullah bin Abi Umaiya, "O ʿAbdullah! See if Allah should make you conquer Ta'if tomorrow, then take the daughter of Ghailan (in marriage) as (she is so beautiful and fat that) she shows four folds of flesh when facing you, and eight when she turns her back." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "These (effeminate men) should never enter upon you (O women!)." Ibn Juraij said, "That effeminate man was called Hit." Narrated Hisham: The above narration and added extra, that at that time, the Prophet, was besieging Taif.

(1408) bukhari:5224Maḥmūd > Abū Usāmah > Hishām from my father > Asmāʾ b. Abū Bakr

When Az-Zubair married me, he had no real property or any slave or anything else except a camel which drew water from the well, and his horse. I used to feed his horse with fodder and drew water and sew the bucket for drawing it, and prepare the dough, but I did not know how to bake bread. So our Ansari neighbors used to bake bread for me, and they were honorable ladies. I used to carry the date stones on my head from Zubair's land given to him by Messenger of Allah ﷺ and this land was two third Farsakh (about two miles) from my house. One day, while I was coming with the date stones on my head, I met Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with some Ansari people. He called me and then, (directing his camel to kneel down) said, "Ikh! Ikh!" so as to make me ride behind him (on his camel). I felt shy to travel with the men and remembered Az-Zubair and his sense of Ghira, as he was one of those people who had the greatest sense of Ghira. Messenger of Allah ﷺ noticed that I felt shy, so he proceeded. I came to Az-Zubair and said, "I met Messenger of Allah ﷺ while I was carrying a load of date stones on my head, and he had some companions with him. He made his camel kneel down so that I might ride, but I felt shy in his presence and remembered your sense of Ghira (See the glossary). On that Az-Zubair said, "By Allah, your carrying the date stones (and you being seen by the Prophet ﷺ in such a state) is more shameful to me than your riding with him." (I continued serving in this way) till Abu Bakr sent me a servant to look after the horse, whereupon I felt as if he had set me free.

Magic was worked on Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that he used to think that he had sexual relations with his wives while he actually had not (Sufyan said: That is the hardest kind of magic as it has such an effect). Then one day he said, "O ʿAisha do you know that Allah has instructed me concerning the matter I asked Him about? Two men came to me and one of them sat near my head and the other sat near my feet. The one near my head asked the other. What is wrong with this man?' The latter replied the is under the effect of magic The first one asked, Who has worked magic on him?' The other replied Labid bin Al-A'sam, a man from Bani Zuraiq who was an ally of the Jews and was a hypocrite.' The first one asked, What material did he use)?' The other replied, 'A comb and the hair stuck to it.' The first one asked, 'Where (is that)?' The other replied. 'In a skin of pollen of a male date palm tree kept under a stone in the well of Dharwan' '' So the Prophet ﷺ went to that well and took out those things and said "That was the well which was shown to me (in a dream) Its water looked like the infusion of Henna leaves and its date-palm trees looked like the heads of devils." The Prophet ﷺ added, "Then that thing was taken out' I said (to the Prophet ﷺ ) "Why do you not treat yourself with Nashra?" He said, "Allah has cured me; I dislike to let evil spread among my people."

Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ went on a journey till they reached some of the 'Arab tribes (at night). They asked the latter to treat them as their guests but they refused. The chief of that tribe was then bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and they tried their best to cure him but in vain. Some of them said (to the others), "Nothing has benefited him, will you go to the people who resided here at night, it may be that some of them might possess something (as treatment)," They went to the group of the companions (of the Prophet ﷺ ) and said, "Our chief has been bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion) and we have tried everything but he has not benefited. Have you got anything (useful)?" One of them replied, "Yes, by Allah! I can recite a Ruqya, but as you have refused to accept us as your guests, I will not recite the Ruqya for you unless you fix for us some wages for it." They agrees to pay them a flock of sheep. One of them then went and recited (Surat-ul-Fatiha): 'All the praises are for the Lord of the Worlds' and puffed over the chief who became all right as if he was released from a chain, and got up and started walking, showing no signs of sickness. They paid them what they agreed to pay. Some of them (i.e. the companions) then suggested to divide their earnings among themselves, but the one who performed the recitation said, "Do not divide them till we go to the Prophet ﷺ and narrate the whole story to him, and wait for his order." So, they went to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and narrated the story. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "How did you come to know that Suratul- Fatiha was recited as Ruqya?" Then he added, "You have done the right thing. Divide (what you have earned) and assign a share for me as well." The Prophet ﷺ smiled thereupon.

ʿUmar bin Al-Khattab departed for Sham and when he reached Sargh, the commanders of the (Muslim) army, Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah and his companions met him and told him that an epidemic had broken out in Sham. ʿUmar said, "Call for me the early emigrants." So ʿUmar called them, consulted them and informed them that an epidemic had broken out in Sham. Those people differed in their opinions. Some of them said, "We have come out for a purpose and we do not think that it is proper to give it up," while others said (to ʿUmar), "You have along with you. other people and the companions of Messenger of Allah ﷺ so do not advise that we take them to this epidemic." ʿUmar said to them, "Leave me now." Then he said, "Call the Ansar for me." I called them and he consulted them and they followed the way of the emigrants and differed as they did. He then said to them, Leave me now," and added, "Call for me the old people of Quraish who emigrated in the year of the Conquest of Mecca." I called them and they gave a unanimous opinion saying, "We advise that you should return with the people and do not take them to that (place) of epidemic." So ʿUmar made an announcement, "I will ride back to Medina in the morning, so you should do the same." Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah said (to ʿUmar), "Are you running away from what Allah had ordained?" ʿUmar said, "Would that someone else had said such a thing, O Abu 'Ubaida! Yes, we are running from what Allah had ordained to what Allah has ordained. Don't you agree that if you had camels that went down a valley having two places, one green and the other dry, you would graze them on the green one only if Allah had ordained that, and you would graze them on the dry one only if Allah had ordained that?" At that time ʿAbdur-Rahman bin ʿAuf, who had been absent because of some job, came and said, "I have some knowledge about this. I have heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'If you hear about it (an outbreak of plague) in a land, do not go to it; but if plague breaks out in a country where you are staying, do not run away from it.' " ʿUmar thanked Allah and returned to Medina.

The man said, 'This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine.
