ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ جَلَّ وَعَلَا أَجْمَلَ عَدَدَ الرَّكَعَاتِ لِلصَّلَوَاتِ فِي الْكِتَابِ وَوَلِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيَانَ ذَلِكَ بِقَوْلٍ وَفِعْلٍ

ibnhibban:1451 – Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan b. Qutaybah > Yazīd b. Mawhab > al-Layth b. Saʿd > Ibn Shihāb > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Bakr b. ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Umayyah b. ʿAbdullāh b. Khālid

that he said to ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar: "Indeed, we find the prayer of the resident and the prayer of fear in the Quran, but we do not find the prayer of travel in the Quran?" So ʿAbdullāh said to him: "O son of my brother, indeed Allah sent Muhammad ﷺ to us and we do not know anything, so we only do as we have seen him do."  

ابن حبّان:١٤٥١ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ إِنَّا نَجْدُ صَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ وَصَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَلَا نَجْدُ صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ «يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَعَثَ إِلَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا نَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْنَاهُ يَفْعَلُ»

He said to 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: "We find (mention of) prayer when one is at home (i.e., not traveling) and prayer at times of fear in the Qur'an, but we do not find any mention in the Qur'an of prayer when traveling. Ibn Umar said to him: 'O son of my brother, Allah (SWT) send Muhammad ﷺ to us when we did not know anything, and all we should do is to do that which we saw Muhammad ﷺ doing.'"

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from a man of the family of Khalid ibn Asid that he said to Abdullah ibn Umar, "Abu Abd ar-Rahman, we find the fear prayer and the prayer when settled mentioned in the Qur'an, but we do not find any mention of the travelling prayer in it." Ibn Umar said, "Son of my brother! Allah the Mighty and Majestic sent us Muhamma ﷺ and we know nothing. We only do as we saw him doing."  

مالك:٩-٩ – حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ آلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ

أحمد:٥٦٨٣ – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى حَدَّثَنِي لَيْثٌ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ إِنَّا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ وَصَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَلَا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ فَقَالَ

“We find (mention of) the prayer of the resident and the prayer in a state of fear in the Qur’an, but we do not find any mention of the prayer of the traveler. ‘Abdullah said to him: “Allah sent Muhammad ﷺ to us, and we did not know anything, rather we do what we saw Muhammad ﷺ doing.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1066)

إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى بَعَثَ مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا نَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ يَفْعَلُ

الحاكم:٩٤٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَمْشَاذَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ إِنَّا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ وَصَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَلَا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ فَقَالَ

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ «يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَعَثَ إِلَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا ﷺ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ شَيْئًا فَإِنَّمَا نَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا يَفْعَلُ»
