Verily there would arise from my Ummah after me or soon after me a group (of people) who would recite the Qur'an, but it would not go beyond their throats, and they would pass clean through their religion just as the arrow passes through the prey, and they would never come back to it. They would be the worst among the creation and the creatures. Ibn Samit (one of the narrators) said: I met Rafi' b. 'Amr Ghifari, the brother of Al-Hakam Ghifari and I said: What is this hadith that I heard from Abu Dharr, i. e. so and so? and then I narrated that hadith to him and said: I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَوْ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ حَلاَقِيمَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لاَ يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ هُمْ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ فَقَالَ ابْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَلَقِيتُ رَافِعَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيَّ أَخَا الْحَكَمِ الْغِفَارِيِّ قُلْتُ مَا حَدِيثٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ  

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'There will be people among my Ummah (nation) after me who will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go any deeper than their throats. They will pass through Islam like an arrow passing through its target, then they will never return to it. They are the most evil of mankind and of all creation.' " 'Abdullah bin Samit said: "I mentioned to Rafi' bin 'Amr, the brother of Hakam bin 'Amr Ghifari and he said: 'I also heard that from the Messenger of Allah.'"  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَوْ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمًا يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لاَ يُجَاوِزُ حُلُوقَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لاَ يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ هُمْ شِرَارُ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِرَافِعِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو أَخِي الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيِّ فَقَالَ وَأَنَا أَيْضًا قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed, after me there will be from my Ummah a group of people who recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will leave the religion just as an arrow pierces through its target, and they will never come back to it. They are the worst of creation and creatures." Ibn As-Samit said: "So I met Rafi'ah, the brother of Al-Hakam ibn 'Amr, and I narrated this Hadith to him." He said: "I too have heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ مِنْ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمًا يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَلَاقِيمَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ قَالَ ابْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَلَقِيتُ رَافِعًا قَالَ بَهْزٌ أَخَا الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَحَدَّثْتُهُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ وَأَنَا أَيْضًا قَدْ سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, after me, there will be a group among my Ummah who will recite the Quran, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will exit the religion just as an arrow pierces through its target, and they will not return to it. They are the worst of creation and creatures." Ibn As-Samit said, "I met Rafi' and I narrated this to him, so he said, 'I have also heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .'  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمًا يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَلَاقِيمَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ قَالَ ابْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَلَقِيتُ رَافِعًا فَحَدَّثْتُهُ فَقَالَ وَأَنَا أَيْضًا قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There will be a group of people from my Ummah who will recite the Quran, but their recitation will not surpass their throats. They will leave the religion just as an arrow leaves its target, and they will not return to it. They will have the characteristic of moving swiftly." Abdullah bin As-Samit said, "I met Rafi bin Amr, the brother of Hakam bin Amr Al-Ghifari, and I asked him about a Hadith that I heard from Abu Dharr. I mentioned the Hadith to him and he said, 'What is strange about this? I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ himself. It is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, and they did not exclude it.'"  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي قَوْمٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ سِيمَاهُمُ التَّحْلِيقُ» قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَلَقِيتُ رَافِعَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو أَخَا الْحَكَمِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيَّ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا حَدِيثٌ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ وَمَا أَعْجَبَكَ مِنْ هَذَا وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ «صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ مُسْلِمٍ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ» على شرط مسلم  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily after me, there will be among my Ummah (nation) a group of people who recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. They will leave the religion as an arrow leaves the bow, and they will not return to it. They are the worst of mankind and creatures."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَوْ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَلَاقِمَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ هُمْ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There will be a group from my nation who will recite the Quran, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will leave the religion like an arrow leaves the bow. They will not return to it, and they are the worst of creation and creatures." Sulaiman said, "I believe he said, 'They have the mark of shaving their heads'." Ibn As-Samit said, "I met Rafa' ibn 'Amr, the brother of Hakam ibn 'Amr Al-Ghifari and asked him about a hadith I heard from Abu Dharr, who said such and such. So I mentioned this hadith to him." He said, "What is it that amazed you about this when I heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?"  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَلَاقِيمَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ لَا يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ» قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَأَكْثَرُ ظَنِّي أَنَّهُ قَالَ «سِيمَاهُمُ التَّحْلِيقِ» قَالَ ابْنُ الصَّامِتِ فَلَقِيتُ رَافِعَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو أَخَا الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْغِفَارِيِّ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا حَدِيثٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ «وَمَا أَعْجَبَكَ مِنْ هَذَا وَأَنَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ»  

"سيكُونُ بعْدِى مِنْ أُمَّتِى قَوْمٌ يقْرأُونَ الْقُرآن لَا يُجاوز حلَاقِيمَهم، يخْرجُونَ مِن الدِّين كَمَا يخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّة ثُمَّ لَا يعُودُونَ فِيهِ، هُمْ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ، سِيمَاهُمُ التَّحْلِيقُ".  

"عَنْ عَبْد الله بن الصَّامِتِ، عَنْ أَبِى ذَرٍّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ أَنَّ بَعَدى أَنْ سَتكُون بَعدِى (*) مِنْ أُمَّتِى قَوْمٌ يَقْرءَوُنَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يجَاوِزُ حُلُوقَهُم، يَخْرجُون مِنَ الدِّين كَمَا يَخْرجُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّميَّةِ، لَا يَعُودُونَ فيه، هُمْ شِرَارُ الْخَلْقِ والْخَلِيقَة، قَالَ عَبْد الله بن الصَّامِت فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِك لِرَافِعِ بن عمر الْغِفَارِى فَقَالَ: أَنَا أَيْضا سَمِعْتهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ الله ﷺ ".
