Jews used to say: "If one has sexual intercourse with his wife from the back, then she will deliver a squint-eyed child." So this Verse was revealed:-- "Your wives are a tilth unto you; so go to your tilth when or how you will." (2.223)

كَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ تَقُولُ إِذَا جَامَعَهَا مِنْ وَرَائِهَا جَاءَ الْوَلَدُ أَحْوَلَ فَنَزَلَتْ ﴿نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ﴾

When a man has intercourse with his wife through the vagina but being on her back. the child will have squint, so the verse came down:" Your wives are your tilth; go then unto your tilth as you may desire" (ii. 223)

سَمِعَ جَابرًا يَقُولُ كَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ تَقُولُ إِذَا أَتَى الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ مِنْ دُبُرِهَا فِي قُبُلِهَا كَانَ الْوَلَدُ أَحْوَلَ فَنَزَلَتْ { نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ}

" Your wives are your ti'Ith; go then unto your tilth, as you may desire."

أَنَّ يَهُودَ كَانَتْ تَقُولُ إِذَا أُتِيَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ دُبُرِهَا فِي قُبُلِهَا ثُمَّ حَمَلَتْ كَانَ وَلَدُهَا أَحْوَلَ قَالَ فَأُنْزِلَتْ { نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ}

Muhammad bin Al Munkadir said I heard Jabir say The Jews used to say “When a man has intercourse with his wife through the vagina, but being on her back the child will have a squint, so the verse came down. Your wives are a tilth to you, so come to your tilth however you will.”

سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ يَقُولُونَ إِذَا جَامَعَ الرَّجُلُ أَهْلَهُ فِي فَرْجِهَا مِنْ وَرَائِهَا كَانَ وَلَدُهُ أَحْوَلَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى { نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ }

"The Jews would say: "Whoever goes into his wife's vagina from behind her, then his children will be cross-eyed.' So Allah revealed: Your wives are a tilth for your, so go to your tilth when or how you will (2:223)."

سَمِعَ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ كَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ تَقُولُ مَنْ أَتَى امْرَأَتَهُ فِي قُبُلِهَا مِنْ دُبُرِهَا كَانَ الْوَلَدُ أَحْوَلَ فَنَزَلَتْ (نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ )

from the Prophet (SA), regarding: Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will (2:223). [He ﷺ said]: "Meaning one valve."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي قَوْلِهِ (نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ ) يَعْنِي صِمَامًا وَاحِدًا

that he heard Jabir bin 'Abdullah say: “The Jews used to say that if a man has intercourse with a woman in her vagina from the back, the child would have a squint. Then Allah, Glorious is He, revealed: 'Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth, when or how you will.' ”

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ كَانَتْ يَهُودُ تَقُولُ مَنْ أَتَى امْرَأَةً فِي قُبُلِهَا مِنْ دُبُرِهَا كَانَ الْوَلَدُ أَحْوَلَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ}

[AI] "Indeed, the Jews said to the Muslims: Whoever approaches his wife from behind, his child will be illegitimate. So Allah, the Exalted, revealed: "Your women are a plowed field for you, so come to your field however you wish." [Al-Baqarah 223].

أَنَّ الْيَهُودَ قَالُوا لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ مَنْ أَتَى امْرَأَتَهُ وَهِيَ مُدْبِرَةٌ جَاءَ وَلَدُهُ أَحْوَلَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223]

[AI] When a man comes to his wife desiring intercourse, Umm Salamah asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this, and he said, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth however you like." (Qur'an 2:223)

عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي امْرَأَتَهُ مُجَبِّيَةً فَسَأَلَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] صِمَامًا وَاحِدًا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said regarding His saying (Wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when you will) [2:223]. He said: "In one go."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي قَوْلِهِ ﷻ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] قَالَ صِمَامًا وَاحِدًا

[AI] The Jews said, "Indeed, when a man approaches his wife and she is on her period, if their child is conceived, it is closer related to the wife. But if their child is not conceived, then they are equal in relationship, as they share the same lineage."

قَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ «إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا أَتَى امْرَأَتَهُ وَهِيَ مُجَبِّيَةٌ جَاءَ وَلَدُهُ أَحْوَلَ فَنَزَلَتْ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} إِنْ شَاءَ مُجَبِّيَةً وَإِنْ شَاءَ غَيْرَ مُجَبِّيَةٍ إِذَا كَانَ فِي صِمَامٍ وَاحِدٍ»

[AI] The Jews said, "The act of intercourse is only valid if a man approaches his wife from behind. Allah revealed: 'Your wives are a tilth (field) for you, so approach your tilth from wherever you wish.' It is permissible for a man to approach his wife from in front or behind, but he should only do so in the proper manner."

قَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ «إِنَّمَا يَكُونُ الْحَوَلُ إِذَا أَتَى الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ مِنْ خَلْفِهَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} مِنْ قُدَّامِهَا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهَا وَلَا يَأْتِيهَا إِلَّا فِي الْمَأْتَى»

[AI] It was said to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that the Jews say when a man approaches his wife from behind, the child will have a squint. So he replied, "The Jews have lied." Then the verse was revealed: "Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish" [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:223].

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ تَقُولُ إِذَا جَاءَ الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ مُجَبَّاةً جَاءَ الْوَلَدُ أَحْوَلُ فَقَالَ «كَذَبَتْ يَهُودُ» فَنَزَلَتْ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223]

[AI] When a man came to his wife in a state of impurity, the child born as a result was brownish. This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ , and then the verse was revealed: "Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth when or how you will" (Quran 2:223).

[AI] The Jews only consider it a sexual act when a man approaches his wife from behind and Allah revealed the verse, "{Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish.}" [Al-Baqarah 2:223] whether it is from the front or from behind, and they only engage in it in the missionary position.

الْيَهُودُ إِنَّمَا يَكُونُ الْحَوَلُ إِذَا أَتَى الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ مِنْ خَلْفِهَا فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهَا وَمِنْ خَلْفِهَا وَلَا يَأْتِيهَا إِلَّا فِي الْمَأْتَى

[AI] The Jews said, "When a man approaches his wife from behind, the child is born more handsome." Then came down the verse, "Your wives are a tilth for you, so approach your tilth when or how you will" [Al-Baqarah 2:223]. If Allah wills, the child will be born more handsome, and if He wills, otherwise. However, this is only in regards to the choice for entering from the front or back. This is the wording of the Hadith of Abu Qudamah.

قَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ إِذَا أَتَى الرَّجُلُ امْرَأَتَهُ مُجَبِّيَةً كَانَ الْوَلَدُ أَحْوَلَ فَنَزَلَتْ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ} [البقرة 223] إِنْ شَاءَ مُجَبِّيَةً وَإِنْ شَاءَ غَيْرَ مُجَبِّيَةٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ فِي صِمَامٍ وَاحِدٍ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَبِي قُدَامَةَ

[AI] From Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , it is narrated that a woman entered upon her and asked the Prophet ﷺ about a man who approaches a woman, both of them facing each other, and the Prophet ﷺ entered and felt shy. Umm Salamah informed him about the woman, and he said, "Send her back to me. Your women are like a fertile land for you, so approach your land however you wish." Then he recited the verse, "Your women are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth as you will" [Qur'an 2:223], meaning they can approach from any direction through one passage.

عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ امْرَأَةً دَخَلَتْ عَلَيْهَا تَسْأَلُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَأْتِي الْمَرْأَةَ مُجَبَّاةً فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَاسْتَحْيَتْ فَسَأَلَ عَنْهَا فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَ رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ {نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ } [البقرة 223] يَأْتِيهَا مُقْبِلَةً وَمُدْبِرَةً فِي سِرٍّ وَاحِدٍ يَعْنِي فِي ثَقْبٍ وَاحِدٍ
