O people of Medina, where are your scholars? I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding this and saying: That the people of Bani Isra'il were ruined at the time when their women wore such hair.  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ  

That he heard Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sufyan say during the Hajj when he was on the pulpit and took a lock of hair which was in the hand of the guard, saying: O people of Medina, where are your scholars ? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding such a think as this and said: The children of Isra'il perished when their women practised it.  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ  

that he heard Mu'awiyah giving a Khutbah in Al-Madinah, and saying: "Where are your scholars, O people of Al-Madinah? [Indeed] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding from these locks (of hair), and saying: 'The Children of Isra'il were only ruined when their women used them.'"  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ يَخْطُبُ يَقُولُ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ هَذِهِ الْقُصَّةِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَهَا نِسَاؤُهُمْ  

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Humay ibn Abd ar-Rahman ibn Awf heard Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan say from the mimbar in the year that he performed the hajj, holding a lock of hair (i.e. a hairpiece) which he took from one of his guards, "People of Madina! Where are your learned men? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the like of this, saying, 'The Banu Israil were destroyed when their women started to use this.' "  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَامَ حَجَّ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَتَنَاوَلَ قُصَّةً مِنْ شَعَرٍ كَانَتْ فِي يَدِ حَرَسِيٍّ يَقُولُ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ وَيَقُولُ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ  

[Machine] He heard Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan, who had a piece of hair in his hand, saying, "I bear witness that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding such a thing, and he said, 'The Children of Israel were only punished when they took their women as such.'"  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَفِي يَدَهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ شَعْرٍ يَقُولُ شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَيَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا عُذِّبَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَتْ نِسَاؤُهُمْ هَذِهِ»

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ وَيَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَهَا نِسَاؤُهُمْ»  

that in the year he performed Hajj. he heard Mu'awiya bin Abi Sufyan, who was on the pulpit and was taking a tuft of hair from one of his guards, saying, "Where are your religious learned men? I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding this (false hair) and saying, 'The children of Israel were destroyed when their women started using this.'" (Using translation from Bukhārī 5932)  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذِهِ الْقُصَّةِ يَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَهَا نِسَاؤُهُمْ»  

[Machine] I heard the Prophet ﷺ prohibiting something like this and saying, "The people of Israel were indeed punished when they adopted the same behavior with their wives."  

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَيَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا عُذِّبَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَتْ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ»  

That he heard Mu'awiyah b. Abi Sufyan say during the Hajj when he was on the pulpit and took a lock of hair which was in the hand of the guard, saying: O people of Medina, where are your scholars ? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding such a think as this and said: The children of Isra'il perished when their women practised it. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4167)  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَيَقُولُ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَتْ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ»  

[Machine] I heard Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan in Al-Madinah holding a document in his hand containing stories of women. He said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade such actions and said, "The people of Bani Israel were destroyed when their women did this."  

سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ بِيَدِهِ قُصَّةٌ مِنْ قُصَصِ النِّسَاءِ يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتْ بَنِو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ نِسَاؤُهُمْ هَذَا»  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid something like this and saying, "The Children of Israel were destroyed when they allowed their women to do this."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ مِثْلِ هَذَا وَيَقُولُ إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ هَذِهِ نِسَاؤُهُمْ  

"إِنَّمَا هلكت بنو إِسرائيل حين اتخذ هذه نِساؤُهم ".  

"عن معاوية، أنه خطب وفى يده قصة من شعر من قصص النساء، فقال: نهى رسول الله ﷺ عن مثل هذا، وقال: إنما هلكت، وفى لفظ: إنما عذبت بنو إسرائيل حين اتخذت هذه نساؤهم".
