"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping upon a mat, then he stood, and the mat had left marks on his side. We said: 'O Messenger of Allah! We said: 'O Messenger of Allah! We could get a bed for you.' He said: 'What do I have to do with the world! I am not in the world but as a rider seeking shade under a tree, then he catches his breath and leaves it.'"
“The Prophet ﷺ lay down on a reed mat, and it left marks on his skin. I said: ‘May my father and mother be ransomed for you, O Messenger of Allah! If you had told us we would have provided you with something that would save you this trouble.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘What is there between myself and the world? This world and I are just like a rider who stops to rest beneath the shade of a tree then goes and leaves it.’”
Life of this world is like sitting under a shade of a tree for a few moments
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laid down upon a reed mat and it left marks on his side. When he woke up, I started wiping his side, and I said, "O Messenger of Allah, why do you not let us spread something on top of this mat for you?" The Prophet said, "What is the world to me? What am I to the world? Verily, the parable of myself and this world is that of a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he moves on and leaves it behind."
[AI] Umar ibn Al-Khattab entered upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ while he was sitting on a mat and it had left marks on his side. Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you had taken a softer bedding than this." The Prophet replied, "What do I have to do with this world and what does this world have to do with me? By the One in Whose hand is my soul, my example and the example of this world is like that of a traveler who took a rest under a tree on a hot day, then he left and left it behind."
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ slept on a mat, leaving a mark on his side. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, why don't you grant us permission to spread something softer than it for you?" He replied, "What do I have to do with the world? My example and the example of the world is like a traveler who rested under a tree in the heat of the day and then left it."
