[Machine] He witnessed the Eid day with Umar, and he prayed before the sermon. Then he spoke and said, "O people, indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade you from fasting on these two Eids. As for one of them, it is the day of your breaking the fast, and as for the other, it is the day on which you offer your sacrifices." Abu Ubaid said, "Then I witnessed it with Uthman bin Affan on Friday. He prayed before the sermon and then spoke to the people, saying, 'O people, today is a day in which you have two Eids. Whoever wishes to wait for Friday from the people of Al-Awali, let him wait, and whoever wishes to leave, then let him leave for I have permitted him.'" Abu Ubaid said, "Then I witnessed it with Ali ibn Abi Talib. He prayed before the sermon, and then he addressed the people and said, 'Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade you from eating the flesh of your sacrifices for more than three days.'" And Ma'mar narrated similar to this from Az-Zuhri, from Abu Ubaid.

I was present at an Eid with Umar b al-Khattab. He prayed, and then after he had prayed he gave a khutbah to the people and said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days: the day you break your fast (i.e. Eid al-Fitr) and the day you eat from your sacrifice (Eid al-Adha) ."

Abu Ubayd continued: Then I was present at an Eid with Uthman b. Affan. He came and prayed, and when he had finished he gave a khutbah and said: "Two Eids have been joined together for you on this day of yours. If any of the people of al-Aliyah (the hills outlying Madina) want to wait for the Jumuah they can do so, and if any of them want to return, I have given them permission."

Abu Ubayd continued: Then I was present at an Eid with AIi b. Abu Talib while Uthman was under siege. He came and prayed, and then after he had prayed he gave a khutbah.
