We used to detain Ibn Umm Maktum from the call to prayer, and we would say, 'Stay as you are until we eat our pre-dawn meal (Suhoor),' and there was nothing between their calls except for him descending while the other ascends, like this."

There were to callers of adhan for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum, the blind. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Bilal announces the adhan at night, so eat and drink until Ibn Umm Maktum announces adhan." [Machine] The Prophet ﷺ had two muadhins, Bilal and Ibn Umm Maktum. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If Bilal gives the adhan at night, then continue eating and drinking until you hear the adhan of Ibn Umm Maktum." Al-Qasim said, "There was nothing between them except this one would descend while the other ascends."

[Machine] I heard my aunt, who had performed Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Bilal gives the call to prayer at night, so keep eating and drinking until Bilal or Ibn Umm Maktum gives the call to prayer." And he used to raise his voice for this (the adhan) and lower it for that (the iqamah), so we would hold onto him just as you are until we eat our pre-dawn meal.
