The Prophet ﷺ said: Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch when he hears something regarding me which I have commanded or forbidden and saying: We do not know. What we found in Allah's Book we have followed.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ الأَمْرُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ لاَ نَدْرِي مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ  

from Abu Rafi' and others, from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch when a command I ordered, or a prohibition from me comes to him, and he says: 'I do not know. What we find in the Book of Allah, we follow it.'"  

لاَ أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ أَمْرٌ مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ لاَ أَدْرِي مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ  

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I do not want to find anyone of you reclining on his pillow, and when bad news comes to him of something that I have commanded or forbidden, he says, 'I do not know, whatever we find in the Book of Allah, we will follow."  

عَنْ سَالِمٍ أَبِي النَّضْرِ ثُمَّ مَرَّ فِي الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ أَوْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَافِعٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ الأَمْرُ مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ لاَ أَدْرِي مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ  

[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "I do not trust anyone of you while reclining on his couch, when something from my commands or prohibitions comes to him and he says, 'We do not know what we found in the Book of Allah, so we followed it.'" Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah has established this chain and it is authentic according to the conditions of both al-Bukhari and Muslim, but they did not include it. As for me, they left it due to the disagreement of the Egyptians regarding this chain according to their conditions and they left it.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ الْأَمْرُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ مَا أَدْرِي مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ «» قَدْ أَقَامَ سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ هَذَا الْإِسْنَادَ وَهُوَ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَالَّذِي عِنْدِي أَنَّهُمَا تَرَكَاهُ لِاخْتِلَافِ الْمِصْرِيِّينَ فِي هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ على شرطهما وتركاه  

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I do not know of a man who reclines, and then an affair of my affairs comes to him which I have commanded or forbidden, and he says, "I don't know, this is the Book of Allah and it does not contain it."'"

Note: The English translation of the phrase "ﷺ" is "peace be upon him".  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَا أَعْرِفَنَّ الرَّجُلَ مُتَّكِئًا يَأْتِيهِ الْأَمْرُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ مَا نَدْرِي هَذَا هُوَ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ وَلَيْسَ هَذَا فِيهِ  

[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said, "And the people around him do not know if any of you receives a matter from my affairs that I have commanded or prohibited, and he is reclining on his couch and says, 'We did not find anything in the Book of Allah that we acted upon, and if it was otherwise, then no.'"  

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَالنَّاسُ حَوْلَهُ لَا أَعْرِفَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَأْتِيهِ أَمْرٌ مِنْ أَمْرِي قَدْ أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ مُتَّكِئٌ عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ فَيَقُولُ مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ عَمِلْنَا بِهِ وَإِلَّا فَلَا  

from Abu Rafi' and others, from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch when a command I ordered, or a prohibition from me comes to him, and he says: 'I do not know. What we find in the Book of Allah, we follow it.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2663)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا أُلْفِيَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَأْتِيهِ الْأَمْرُ مِمَّا أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَوْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُ فَيَقُولُ لَا نَدْرِي مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ اتَّبَعْنَاهُ  

[Machine] "On the authority of Abu Rafi' the servant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'And the people around him, I do not know of any of you to whom a matter comes from my matter while he is reclining on his couch, and he says, 'We did not find anything in the Book of Allah, so we acted upon it.'"  

عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَالنَّاسُ حَوْلَهُ لَا أَعْرِفَنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ يَأْتِيهِ الْأَمْرُ مِنْ أَمْرِي وَهُوَ مُتَّكِئٌ عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يَقُولُ مَا وَجَدْنَا فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ عَمِلْنَا بِهِ  

"لا أُلفِيَنَّ أَحَدكُمْ مُتكئًا عَلَى أَرِيكَتِهِ يأتِيه الأمْرُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مِما أَمَرْتُ بِهِ أَو نَهَيتُ عَنْهُ، فَيَقُولُ: لا أَدْرِي، مَا وَجَدْنَا في كِتَابِ الله اتَّبعْنَاهُ".
