The Prophet ﷺ prayed two rakʿat of Zuhr prayer (instead of four) and he was told that he had prayed two rakʿat only. Then he prayed two more rakʿat and finished them with the Taslim followed by two prostrations.

صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقِيلَ صَلَّيْتَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the afternoon prayer and gave the salutation. at the end of three rak'ahs and then went into his house. A man called al-Khirbaq, who bad long aims, got up and went to him, and addressed him as Messenger of Allah and mentioned to him what he had done. He came out angrily trailing his mantle, and when he came to the people he said: Is this man telling the truth? They said: Yes. He then said one rak'ah and then gave salutation and then performed two prostrations and then gave salutation.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الْعَصْرَ فَسَلَّمَ فِي ثَلاَثِ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَنْزِلَهُ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْخِرْبَاقُ وَكَانَ فِي يَدَيْهِ طُولٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ صَنِيعَهُ وَخَرَجَ غَضْبَانَ يَجُرُّ رِدَاءَهُ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ هَذَا قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said three rak'ahs of the 'Asr prayer and then got up and went to his apartment. A man possessing large arms stood up and said: Messenger of Allah, bias the player been shortened? He came out angrily, and said the rak'ah which he had omitted and then gave salutation. then performed two prostrations of forgetfulness and then gave salutation.

سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي ثَلاَثِ رَكَعَاتٍ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَدَخَلَ الْحُجْرَةَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ بَسِيطُ الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَخَرَجَ مُغْضَبًا فَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَةَ الَّتِي كَانَ تَرَكَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَىِ السَّهْوِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

Abu Hurairah reported; The Prophet ﷺ offered the noon prayer and he gave the salutation at the end of two rakahs. He was asked. Has the prayer been shortened ? then he offered two rakahs of the prayer and made two prostrations (at the end of it).

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَسَلَّمَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ نَقَصَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the salutation at the end of three rakahs in the afternoon prayer, then went into the apartment (according to the version of maslamah). A man called al-Khirbaq who had long arms got up and said ; has the prayer been shortened, Messenger of Allah ? He came out angrily trailing his cloak and said : Is he telling the truth ? they said; Yes. He then prayed that rakah, then gave the salutation, then made two prostrations, then gave the salutation.

So he stood and prayed that rak'ah, then he said the salam, then prostrated twice, then he said the salam (again)."

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said the Salam after three Rak’ah for ‘Asr, then he stood up and went into the apartment. Khirbaq, a man with big hands, stood up and called out: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Has the prayer been shortened?’ He came out angrily, dragging his lower garment, and asked about it, and was told (what had happened). So he performed the Rak’ah that he had omitted, then he said the Salam, then he prostrated twice and said the Salam again.”

They replied, "Yes." So he performed the unit of prayer that he had missed, then he made the salaam, and then he prostrated twice, and then he made the salaam again.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَلَّمَ فِي ثَلَاثِ رَكَعَاتٍ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَدَخَلَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْخِرْبَاقُ وَكَانَ فِي يَدَيْهِ طُولٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ فَذَكَرَ لَهُ صَنِيعَهُ فَجَاءَ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ هَذَا؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَةَ الَّتِي تَرَكَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray three units of prayer before or after the noon or afternoon prayer. It was said to him: "Is that how you pray?" He replied, "Yes." So, he prayed one unit of prayer, then he sat and made the testimony of faith and salutation, then he prostrated twice for the forgetfulness, then he made the salutation.

The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, you have shortened the prayer." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and dragged his garment, then asked, "Is that true?" They said, "Yes." So, he stood up and performed that Rak'ah.

Then, a man named Al-Khirbaaq said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, you only prayed three units of prayer." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Is that how it seems to you?" They replied, "Yes." So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed one more unit of prayer, then made the testimony of faith, and concluded the prayer. Then, he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness.

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺprayed the afternoon prayer of three units (rak'ahs), then a man named Al-Khirbaq approached him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, mention to me what you did." So the Prophet ﷺ became angry and dragged his garment until he reached the people. He then said, "Did he say the truth?" They replied, "Yes." So he prayed that unit (rak'ah) and then made the prostration of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw), followed by the final salutation.

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , performed two units of the Dhuhr prayer, then he finished and said, "Did the prayer become shorter?" He then stood and performed two units of prayer, then finished and performed two prostrations. Abu Abdur-Rahman said to us, "I do not know anyone who mentioned this hadith from Abu Salamah, except Sa'd."

[AI] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed three units of either Dhuhr or Asr prayer, and a man known as Al-Khirbaq said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, you only prayed three units." He said, "Is that so?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Then he stood and prayed, then he prostrated, then he recited the Tashahhud and gave the greeting of peace, then he prostrated twice for forgetfulness, then he gave the greeting of peace. This is the correct narration, and Allah knows best."

Al-Khirbaq had long hands, and he asked the Prophet, "Has the prayer become shorter, O Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet became angry and pulled his garment, asking, "Is that true?" They replied, "Yes." The Prophet then stood and performed that rak'ah, then he greeted with the salaam, then he prostrated two prostrations, then he greeted with the salaam. Ibn Ulayyah said, "Then he entered his house, and the rest of the hadeeth is according to its meaning."

سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي ثَلَاثِ رَكَعَاتٍ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْخِرْبَاقُ وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ فَخَرَجَ مُغْضَبًا يَجُرُّ رِدَاءَهُ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى تِلْكَ الرَّكْعَةَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْهِمَا ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَنْزِلَهُ وَالْبَاقِي بِمَعْنَاهُ

" أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ صَلَّى بالنَّاسِ رَكعَتَينِ فَسَهَا فَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُل يُقَالُ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ: نَقَصَتِ الصَّلاَةُ؛ فَقَالَ: لاَ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ أُخْرَاوَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ".

"عَنْ عِمرانَ بنِ حُصَينٍ قَالَ: سلَّم رسولُ الله ﷺ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ رَكعَاتٍ مِنَ العَصْرِ فَدَخَلَ فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ الحِزْبَاق، وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ اليَدَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: أَقصرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ يَا رَسُولَ الله؟ فَخَرجَ مُغْضبًا يَجُرُّ رداءه حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ: أصَدَقَ هَذَا؟ فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَقَامَ يُصَلِّى تِلْكَ الركعَة، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتيْن".

"أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْن ثُمَ سَلَّمَ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: انْقُصْ من الصَّلَاةِ، فَصَلَّى رَكعَتين أُخَراوَيْن فَسَلَّم، ثُمَ سَجَد سَجْدَتَيْن".
