[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Hudaybiyah, at the root of the tree that Allah Almighty mentioned in the Quran. The branches of that tree used to fall on the Prophet's ﷺ back, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Suheil ibn Amr. The Prophet ﷺ then said to Ali, "Write, 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.'" So Suheil ibn Amr took his hand and said, "We do not know or recognize the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Write in our context what we know." He then said, "Write, 'In your name, O Allah.' This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , approves for us, the people of Makkah." So Suheil took his hand and said, "We have wronged you, if you are truly his Messenger. Write in our context what we know." Ali said, "Write, 'This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, approves for us.'" So they wrote it. While we were in this state, thirty young men armed with weapons came out and approached us in a threatening manner. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invoked Allah's curse upon them, and Allah had taken away their sight. We then captured them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "Have you come as part of a treaty or did anyone grant you safety?" They replied, "No." He then let them go and Allah revealed the verse, "And it is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them within [the area of] Makkah after He caused you to overcome them. And ever is Allah of what you do, Seeing." [Quran 48:24] Abu Abdur Rahman said, Hammad ibn Salamah reported from Thabit, who reported from Anas, and Husayn ibn Waqid reported from Abdullah ibn Mughaffal. This is the correct narration, if Allah wills.

I heard ‘Ali ؓ say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me, az-Zubair and al-Miqdad, and he said: “Go to the garden of Khakh, where you will find a woman riding a camel with whom there is a letter, and take it from her.” We set out with our horses galloping, until we reached that garden, and there we found the woman. We said: Give us the letter. She said: I do not have any letter. We said: Either you give us the letter or we will remove your clothes. So she brought it out from her braided hair, and we took it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and in it (was written): From Hatib bin Abi Baltaʿah to some of the mushrikeen of Makkah, telling them about some of the plans of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿO Hatib, what is this?ʿ He said: Do not be hasty in judging me, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I am a man who was attached to Quraish but I was one of them. The Muhajireen who are with you have relatives who will protect their families in Makkah, and I wanted, as i have no blood ties among them, to do them a favour so that they would protect my family. I did not do it out of kufr or because I apostatized from my religion, or because I approved of Kufr after becoming Muslim. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿHe has told you the truth.ʿ ʿUmar ؓ said: O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, let me strike the neck of this hypocrite. He said: “He was present at Badr, and you do not know, perhaps Allah looked upon the people of Badr and said: ʿDo what you wish, for I have forgiven you.ʿ (Using translation from Aḥmad 600)

When the Prophet ﷺ intended to perform ʿUmra in the month of Dhul-Qada, the people of Mecca did not let him enter Mecca till he settled the matter with them by promising to stay in it for three days only. When the document of treaty was written, the following was mentioned: 'These are the terms on which Muhammad, Messenger of Allah ﷺ agreed (to make peace).' They said, "We will not agree to this, for if we believed that you are Messenger of Allah ﷺ we would not prevent you, but you are Muhammad bin ʿAbdullah." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I am Messenger of Allah ﷺ and also Muhammad bin ʿAbdullah." Then he said to ʿAli, "Rub off (the words) 'Messenger of Allah ﷺ' ", but ʿAli said, "No, by Allah, I will never rub off your name." So, Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the document and wrote, 'This is what Muhammad bin ʿAbdullah has agreed upon: No arms will be brought into Mecca except in their cases, and nobody from the people of Mecca will be allowed to go with him (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ ) even if he wished to follow him and he (the Prophet ﷺ ) will not prevent any of his companions from staying in Mecca if the latter wants to stay.' When the Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca and the time limit passed, the Meccans went to ʿAli and said, "Tell your Friend (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ ) to go out, as the period (agreed to) has passed." So, the Prophet ﷺ went out of Mecca. The daughter of Hamza ran after them (i.e. the Prophet ﷺ and his companions), calling, "O Uncle! O Uncle!" ʿAli received her and led her by the hand and said to Fatima, "Take your uncle's daughter." Zaid and Jaʿfar quarreled about her. ʿAli said, "I have more right to her as she is my uncle's daughter." Jaʿfar said, "She is my uncle's daughter, and her aunt is my wife." Zaid said, "She is my brother's daughter." The Prophet ﷺ judged that she should be given to her aunt, and said that the aunt was like the mother. He then said to 'All, "You are from me and I am from you", and said to Jaʿfar, "You resemble me both in character and appearance", and said to Zaid, "You are our brother (in faith) and our freed slave." [Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Hudaibiya, near the base of a tree. Allah said, "And as if I were a branch from the branches of that tree upon the back of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." So, I lifted it off his back, while Ali ibn Abi Talib and Suhayl ibn Amr were before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write, 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.'" So Suhayl took his hand and said, "We don't know the 'Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.' Write, 'In our case, write, in your name, O Allah.'" Then he said, "This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon for the people of Makkah." Then, he held his hand and said, "Indeed, we have wronged you if you are a Messenger. Write in our case, in your name, O Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Write, 'This is what Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul-Muttalib, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon for the people of Makkah. I am the Messenger of Allah.'" So, he wrote. While we were like that, thirty young men came out towards us, armed, and they frown upon us. The Prophet ﷺ invoked upon them, and Allah seized their sights. So, we attacked them and seized them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked them, "Have you come under the safety or covenant of anyone?" They replied, "No." So, he let them go. Then, Allah revealed, "And it is He who restrained their hands from you and your hands from them" (Quran 48:24) until "seeing" (Quran 4:58).
