The Prophet ﷺ went out to offer the Istisqa' prayer and turned (and put on) his cloak inside out.

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَسْتَسْقِي وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ

from his uncle who said, "The Prophet ﷺ went out to invoke Allah for rain. He faced the Qibla invoking Allah. He turned over his cloak (inside out) and then offered two rakʿat and recited the Qur'an aloud in them."

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَسْتَسْقِي فَتَوَجَّهَ إِلَى الْقِبْلَةِ يَدْعُو وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ جَهَرَ فِيهِمَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to the place of prayer and prayed for rain and turned round his mantle while facing the Qibla.

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ الْمَازِنِيَّ يَقُولُ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَاسْتَسْقَى وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ حِينَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ

Ibn Tamim narrated on the authority of his uncle ('Abdullah b. Zaid) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the place of prayer and prayed for rain and faced towards Qibla, and turned round his mantle and prayed two rak'ahs.

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَاسْتَسْقَى وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ رِدَاءَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

'Abdullah b. Zaid al-Ansari reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the place of prayer in order to offer prayer for rainfall. And when he intended to make supplication he faced Qibla and turned round his mantle.

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى يَسْتَسْقِي وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh)went out to the place of prayer to pray for rain. When he wanted to make supplication, he faced the qiblah and turned around his cloak.

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى يَسْتَسْقِي وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ ثُمَّ حَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ

Abd Allah b. Zaid al Mazini said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out to the place of prayer and made supplication or rain, and turned around his cloak when the faced the qiblah.

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ الْمَازِنِيَّ يَقُولُ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَاسْتَسْقَى وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ حِينَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ

He heard Abbad bin Tamim said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and prayed for rain, and he turned his rida' around when he turned to the Qiblah."

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَاسْتَسْقَى وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ حِينَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ

He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he prayed for rain, turn to face the Qiblah, turning his cloak around and raising his hands.

أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الاِسْتِسْقَاءِ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ الرِّدَاءَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ

The Prophet ﷺ went out to pray for rain, and he prayed two rak'ahs facing the Qiblah. (Sahih

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ

The Prophet ﷺ went out and prayed for rain, then he prayed two rak'ahs in which he recited loudly.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ فَاسْتَسْقَى فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ جَهَرَ فِيهِمَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ

[AI] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out with the people to the place of prayer seeking rain, and he faced the Qibla (direction of prayer) and turned his cloak."

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ بِالنَّاسِ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى يَسْتَسْقِي فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ»

Abd Allah b. Zaid al Mazini said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out to the place of prayer and made supplication or rain, and turned around his cloak when the faced the qiblah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1167)

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to seek rain. He faced the direction of the Qibla, turned his cloak inside out, raised his voice in recitation, and prayed two units of prayer.

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْتَسْقِي فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ وَجَهَرَ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the people out (to the place of prayer) and prayed for rain. He led them in two rak'ahs of prayer in the course of which he recited from the Qur'an in a loud voice. He turned around his cloak and raised his hands, prayed for rain and faced the qiblah (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1161)

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالنَّاسِ يَسْتَسْقِي فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَجَهَرَ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فِيهَا وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ وَدَعَا وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ

[AI] I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ going out to seek rain. Then he turned his back to the people, faced the Kaaba, turned his cloak inside out, and started supplicating. He performed two Rakahs (units) of prayer and recited the Quran aloud.

شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَوَلَّى ظَهْرَهُ النَّاسَ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ وَجَعَلَ يَدْعُو وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَجَهَرَ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the prayer area to pray for rain. He faced the qiblah (direction of prayer), turned his robe inside out, and prayed two units of prayer. Sufyan said, "He turned his robe in such a way that the right became the left and the left became the right."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى يَسْتَسْقِي فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ رِدَاءَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ قَلْبُ الرِّدَاءِ جَعْلُ الْيَمِينِ الشِّمَالَ وَالشِّمَالِ الْيَمِينَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out, faced the direction of the Qibla, supplicated, adjusted his garment, and then performed two units of prayer, reciting aloud in them.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ فَتَوَجَّهَ الْقِبْلَةَ يَدْعُو وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ جَهَرَ فِيهِمَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ

[AI] I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinating facing the Qibla, and I am the first one to inform the people of that.

رَأَيْتُرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَبُولُ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةِ وَأَنَا أَوَّلُ مَنْ حَدَّثَ النَّاسَ بِذَلِكَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from facing both Qiblas while urinating or defecating.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ نَسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ بِبَوْلٍ أَوْ غَائِطٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade facing both Qiblas (Kaaba in Mecca and Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem) while defecating or urinating.

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ تُسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَتَانِ بِغَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from facing both Qiblas (Kaaba in Mecca and Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem) while urinating or defecating.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ نَسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ بِبَوْلٍ أَوْ غَائِطٍ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Amr ibn Hazm that he had heard Abbad ibn Tamim say that he had heard Abdullah ibn Zayd al-Mazini say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to the place of prayer and asked for rain, and when he faced the qibla he turned his cloak inside out."

Malik was asked how many rakas there were in the prayer of asking for rain and he said, "Two rakas, and the imam does the prayer before he gives the khutba. He prays two rakas, and then he gives a khutba and makes dua, facing the qibla and turning his cloak inside out. He recites out loud in both rakas, and when he turns his cloak inside out he puts what is on his right on his left, and what is on his left on his right, and all the people turn their cloaks inside out when the imam does so, and face the qibla, sitting."

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَاسْتَسْقَى وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ حِينَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ۔

قالَ يَحْيى، وسُئِلَ مالِكٌ، عَنْ صَلاَةِ الاِسْتِسْقاءِ كَمْ هِيَ؟ فَقالَ: رَكْعَتانِ. ولَكِنْ يَبْدَأُ الإمامُ بِالصَّلاَةِ قَبْلَ الخُطْبَةِ. فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ. ثُمَّ يَخْطُبُ قائِمًا ويَدْعُو. ويَسْتَقْبِلُ القِبْلَةَ، ويُحَوِّلُ رِداءَهُ حِينَ يَسْتَقْبِلُ القَبْلَةَ. ويَجْهَرُ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بِالقِراءَةِ. وإذا حَوَّلَ رِداءَهُ، جَعَلَ الَّذِي عَلى يَمِينِهِ عَلى شِمالِهِ. والَّذِي عَلى شِمالِهِ عَلى يَمِينِهِ. ويُحَوِّلُ النّاسُ أرْدِيَتَهُمْ، إذا حَوَّلَ الإمامُ رِداءَهُ. ويَسْتَقْبِلُونَ القِبْلَةَ، وهُمْ قُعُودٌ.

Yahya related to me from Malik from one of the Ansar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade defecating or urinating while facing the qibla.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ تُسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةُ لِغَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sought rain and turned his cloak so that the drought may be transformed."

«اسْتَسْقَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ لِيَتَحَوَّلَ الْقَحْطُ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to seek rainfall so he faced the Qibla, turned his back towards the people, flipped his cloak, and performed two loud Rak'ahs during which he recited out loud.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَوَلَّى ظَهْرَهُ النَّاسَ وَقَلَبَ رِدَاءَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ جَهَرَ فِيهِمَا بِالْقِرَاءَةِ»

"Abbad bin Tamim told me that he heard his paternal uncle, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out one day to pray for rain. He turned his back toward the people, praying to Allah (SWT), and he turned to face the Qiblah. He turned his rida' around, then he prayed two rak'ahs." (One of the narrators) Ibn Abi Dhi'b said in the hadith: "And he recited in them both." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1519)

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَمَّهُ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمًا يَسْتَسْقِي فَحَوَّلَ إِلَى النَّاسِ ظَهْرَهُ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ»

[AI] He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinating facing the qibla.

أَنَّهُ «رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَبُولُ مُسْتَقْبِلًا الْقِبْلَةَ»

Ibn Tamim narrated on the authority of his uncle ('Abdullah b. Zaid) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the place of prayer and prayed for rain and faced towards Qibla, and turned round his mantle and prayed two rak'ahs. (Using translation from Muslim 894b)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى «يَسْتَسْقِي فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ رِدَاءَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ»

He heard Abbad bin Tamim said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and prayed for rain, and he turned his rida' around when he turned to the Qiblah." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1511)

سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ زَيْدٍ يَقُولُ خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فَاسْتَسْقَى وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ حِينَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ»

He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he prayed for rain, turn to face the Qiblah, turning his cloak around and raising his hands. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1512)

أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «فِي الِاسْتِسْقَاءِ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ الرِّدَاءَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ»

The Prophet ﷺ went out to pray for rain, and he prayed two rak'ahs facing the Qiblah. (Sahih (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1520)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «خَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ went out to the place of prayer, seeking rain, and he faced the qibla, and he turned his cloak and performed two units of prayer.

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَاسْتَسْقَى وَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَقَلَبَ رِدَاءَهُ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ

[AI] Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to the prayer area to seek rain, and when he wanted to supplicate, he faced the qibla and flipped his cloak.

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى يَسْتَسْقِي وَإِنَّهُ لَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَدْعُوَ اسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ وَحَوَّلَ رِدَاءَهُ

Abd Allah b. Zaid al Mazini said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out to the place of prayer and made supplication or rain, and turned around his cloak when the faced the qiblah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1167)

"لَا تَسْتَقْبِلُوا الْقِبْلَةَ بِغَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ".

"لا يَبُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ مُسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَة".

" أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله ﷺ نَهَى أَنْ تُسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةُ بِغَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ".
